When I first saw this art, I thought it would be on a blue card-drawing spell. Boy was I wrong!

When I first saw this art, I thought actual card would be just as amazing. Boy was I wrong!

I like transmogrifying licid more. Unlike this card, it can attack and block when I have no other creatures, has a cheaper activation cost, can be activated at instant speed, and also works on creatures of teammates or opponents.

When I first saw this art, I thought, "Nice abs."

Giving your creatures the metalcraft you needed seemed like a good plan. Then of course, the opponent has the Divine Offering for you newly artifact creature!

When I first read the flavor text, I thought it would do something about infect counters. Boy was I wrong!

The card is not good.

The card's art is fantastic! The composition is fantastic, and it has just the right amount of contrast to offset the heavy blue tones. The geometric shapes in the background are reminiscent of artifacts of old, which often were set in abstract backgrounds rather than within a specific location. It's also has a bit of the Vitruvian Man inspiration going for it, which is cool -- and somewhat ironic -- from a flavor standpoint.

I run an anti-artifact deck. I can exile/destroy any artifact with ease. My only issue is if my opponent has none. Granted, the +1/+1 can slow me down, but as long as I am smart, this works really well with my Liquimetal Coatings, Crushes, and Hoard-Smelter Dragon. Soon I will have Into the Core, and no permanent will I fear. Not bad for a pure red, I think.

This is more like what Liquimetal Coating should have been.

Absolutely love the old-school art. If only they'd made the flavor text relevant to what the card does, it would be a lock for the Vorthos-iest card of the set.

It looks like they failed that challenge pretty badly, I'm going to be honest.

This would look great as playmat of some sort, or a wallpaper.

Well... eh... I dunno. Kinda helps with Metalcraft? And the +1/+1 buff is always welcome. But I'll admit, I'm reaching here.

@Crosserenti - You can only equip creatures you control.

Another artifact for Metalcraft ?
Bonus for nonartifact creatures from Tempered Steel ?
Protection from Go for the Throat ?

It has uses. Its just that none of them are spectacular when compared to the craziness that is liquimetal coating.

I like how this evokes Terese Nielson's M10 illustrations for Holy Strength, Unholy Strength, and Lifelink. In fact, I like Nielson's illustrations in general, regardless of the cards they appear on.

That being said, this is meant for turning on Metalcraft and making Tempered Steel decks even meaner. Slap this onto Mirran Crusader making it into a 3/3 Double Striker. With Tempered Steel in play, Mirran Crusader is then a 5/5 White Artifact Creature - Human Knight with Double Strike and Pro black and Pro green. Cool!

This cards soul purpose is to fuel metalcraft, which when done right, can be abused.
So if the down side is that you must fear artifact removal...then so be it. No diff than
fearing red/black/white removal in any other creature agro deck.

When I first saw this art, I thought:

Ah... Ms. Nielsen... when almost all the other Magic artists try to make their junk photorealistic, your artwork remains the most magical. Thank you. I mean this thing tells a story... rook crosery...

Oh and tell them to put your stuff on GOOD CARDS more along the likes of Divine Offering!

P.S. Those Partisan spies were right.

This is so Rebecca Guay. What the hell happened? Anyways, Phylactery Lich likes it, but hardly needs it.

I'm trying to build a deck around this card just because it's so sexy (I have a foil :P):

20 Plains

4 Gold Myr
4 Silverskin Armor
4 Sword of Vengeance

4 Ornithopter
4 Etched Champion
4 Steel Overseer
4 Puresteel Paladin
4 Indomitable Archangel

4 Tempered Steel

4 Dispatch

Side:

4 Divine Offering
4 Safe Passage
4 Day of Judgement

So in theory, the silverskin armors will be shrouded and have "equip: 0" YAY!! Plus they will draw me a card.

When partisan spies warned that "no armor" would protect the body from Phyrexian infection, Neurok strategists took that entirely literally and armed their agents with nothing but panties and blindfolds.

That's using your heads there, guys.

Kara Vrist, as usual not wearing much.

There's a NPH card that depicts her somewhere...

Helps enables metalcraft, and at the same time causes the equipped creature to be more susceptible to removal, such as Naturalize and Nature's Claim

Protection against the Phyrexian infection? Let's see:
Ashnod once built the same tech. And guess what? She was killed by a Phyrexian.

(Well, probably because she didn't want to use the transmogrant on herself.
I have to admit though, her variant of +1/+1 and becoming an artifact also didn't make you look remotely as pretty as the Neurok teasing lingerie variant...)

Honestly, my first impression on how to make this card actually useful? Modular. You can only throw the +1/+1 on artifact creatures. It also works similarly to Avacyn's Collar, in that you can equip it to a token, sac the token to say, Throne of Geth, and never have to worry about running out of crap to sac.

It has it's uses, just very obscure ones, much more Johnny than Spike. It's not really great, but I'm glad it exists.

Why couldn't this have been 1 to play, 1 to equip? Cmon wotc, dont put art this bomb on a card that isnt even a limited pick.

Compare this art to Sealed Fate. So good.
Really, what else can you say about Terese Nielsen's art? Best there is...

given that you can use this in combination with Voltaic key to untap a creature i think it has value, deserves to be three stars at least imho
