White Braids on steroids. You can choose only to activate the ability if you want to, on top of that only permanents of the desired type can be sacrificed - including those you don't necessarily control, like Enchantments, Artifacts or Planeswalkers. And it's non-legendary and has a decent body.

Yeah, this would've made more sense in black, or black-red. Mirrored losses is really Black's shtick.

The rule book says:
Card type Every card has at least one card type: artifact, creature, enchantment, instant, land, planeswalker, or sorcery. A card’s type is printed under its illustration. Some cards, like artifact creatures, have more than one type. Some cards also have subtypes, such as “Goblin” and “Warrior” in “Creature — Goblin Warrior,” or supertypes, such as “basic” in “Basic Land — Forest.”
I don't think you can add in a super type like basic or legendary. I don't think you can add in a subtype goblin or warrior either.

Going along the Emeria, the Sky Ruin idea, go a step further and use creatures with "come into play" abilities. Allies immediately came to my mind because there are a decent amount of good white Allies - Talus Paladin, Kabira Evangel, Ondu Cleric, Kazandu Blademaster, and Hada Freeblade. Kor Skyfisher also fits the recycling abilities theme. You can use Kor Cartographer, Expedition Map, and Explorer's Scope to ramp for the Emeria trigger, too. Furthermore, you get access to Brave the Elements, Journey to Nowhere, Oblivion Ring, and Path to Exile. Talus Paladin also opens up the possibility of another potential life gain/Felidar Sovereign build. Ahh...such a simple idea with so many possibilities. :)
Even better in multiples of any of the aforementioned. Creature and land advantage - what's not to love?
Underrated, IMO.

Excellent control card for monowhite. The operative word in the rule text is "may". If this card forced you to pick something every turn, it wouldn't be playable, but instead you can nuke your opponent's special tech whenever you want, on top of a survivable 4/4 body. 4.5/5.

I don't understand why I saw so many wrong comments on this card.
1. First the card types are Enchantment, Creature, Instant, Sorcery, Artifact, Planeswalker, Land you CAN'T choose tribal!!!! or non land or whatever you say here!!!!
2. If you choose a card type the players DO NOT HAVE TO SACRIFICE ALL THE PERMANENTS OF THIS TYPE they just choose one (if they don't have any they don't sac anything)
3. The word "MAY" IS NOT IMPORTANT!!!!! If it didn't say may, you'd have to choose sth anyway but if you wanted nothing to happen in a turn, you could still choose "sorcery" since there are no permanents that are sorceries so nothing would happen. SO MAY is NOT IMPORTANT.
I don't want to show off just help make clear what the card's ruling means

I posted a while ago that it's pretty good in monowhite control. Of course, then UW control became strong, and Spreading Seas and Tectonic Edge spelled the doom of Emeria, the Sky Ruin...
But now, thanks to the dynamic duo of World Queller and Sun Titan, monowhite Emeria once again can reanimate successfully. Sun Titan can fish out Emerias that have been destroyed while also providing a huge body, and if left unchecked he can do it more than once. World Queller can help get rid of those pesky seas.
Of course, technically, Ruin Ghost could protect your lands pretty well in the first place, but do you really want a 1/1 that forces you to hold mana open and doesn't offer any card advantage? Sun Titan also combos quite well with Admonition Angel, provided you include a couple of snaplands in the deck. Even if you have no lands left in your hand or deck, Sun Titan can fish one of the snaps out of the graveyard to feed Admonition Angel, then you can sac it right back there for next time.

This card excels in most mono white decks, simply because you always have something to throw away. And since I don't have enough planeswalkers to run in a deck well, he works great as a planeswalker negater. Who's going to waste 5+ mana to throw out something they will have to sacrifice next turn?
The big problem with this card is continuos bouncers.

"May" is irrelevant, you could pick instant/sorcery every turn and it would be the same as not using the ability.
Picking a type of permanents that you don't control is the best way to use this card. Smile broadly while choosing a card type at your upkeep that your opponent has and you do not!
To make this very clear, here are the card types (again). 204.2. Card Types 204.2a The card types are artifact, creature, enchantment, instant, land, plane, planeswalker, scheme, sorcery, tribal, and vanguard.
I really like this card, in some way, it can be an answer to any permanent your opponent will play which is awesome. The 4/4 body is solid for a creature with such an nice ability and at some point, it can even be threatening for your opponent.
I built a monowhite control deck around the World Queller with Emeria, the Sky Ruin, Kor Cartographer and Sun Titan. I included a lot of creatures with "come into play ability" and no (or very few) artifacts, enchantment or planeswalker. This way, you can safely destroy any of those 3 card types your opponent has while leaving your board unaffected. You can also start a race to destroy your opponents creatures or lands depending which he is short off compared to you. Obviously, the creature race becomes very easy to win and the World Queller very hard to remove once Emeria, the Sky Ruin is active!
This card also makes Roc Egg much more playable since you can sacrifice it to get the 3/3 flying while your opponent suffers.
I really like playing this creature, most opponents are surprised the first time they see it in action since so few people play it. 5 stars from me.
Saddly, the World Queller has a very hard time against Jace, the Mind Sculptor who will bounce him a couple of times to your hand to avoid destruction.

A supremely underrated card. I run, and almost always have run artifact and enchantment-less decks, that's just my play style, so this card works perfectly for me. If you're running a deck without artifacts or enchantments, this card will make your opponent cry and sink onto the floor in a fetal position.

When I saw this, I was like "that sucks, I hope I don't pull this!" Of course, I pulled one in literally the next pack I opened, so I decided to build a sac deck. It's amazing, one of the best in my playgroup, and it uses, of all things, white!!! This card is not something to go in every deck, but it is extremely good at generating lots of card advantage and clearing what needs to be cleared. Plus, it has a nice, big body, that can kill the opponent in just a few hits. And I actually totally disagree that this shouldn't be white; while sac effects are usually black, this hits everybody equally.

1. The may clause is only relevant when you forget the ability. As if the ability was forced, you could get warnings at tournaments and/or be forced to scroll back the game if you forget to use the ability. 2. The card types are: Artifact, creature, enchantment, tribal, planeswalker, instant, sorcery and land. 2a. Schemes, vanguard and planes are cardtypes too if you play archenemy, vanguard or planechase. But only when you play those variations of magic. 3. You can choose a card type that is not a permanent type; instants and sorceries and in some cases tribal. 4. You can not choose supertypes: Legendary, snow, basic or world. Nor can you choose subtypes: Plains, aura, goblin etc. 5. You can not choose negatively, as in "nonland", nor can you choose two types, as in "artifact creature". 6. You can choose a cardtype that you don't control any permanents of. 7. If a player doesn't have a permanent of the choosen cardtype, then they can't sacrifice any permanents. 8. If no players have any permanents of the choosen cardtype, then nothing happens.
Please people, don't read stuff out of cards that isn't written on them and don't comment on rules that you don't know well enough to state that you know. It only serves to misguide new players.
It's white because it's "balanced". Not power-level wise "balance", actual balance. Theoretically, you both sacrifice one card. That's balance. White's all about that.

Great planeswalker hoser: once this goes down, playing 'walkers is liable to end in disaster. Amusing to note is that the "may" is functionally useless: even if it was compulsory, you can technically choose "instant" or "sorcery" and then nothing happens.

Run next to tokens and without other non-land permanents and he can cover you like a Trygon predator. Even better is that he's reanimate ready, can hate on lands (locking the game down after an armageddon), gets better in multiplayer, and is a respectable 4/4 so can beat down efficiently.
