Tough choice between this and Hero of Oxid Ridge

The new aggressive 4 drop. I would say that this even rivals Bloodbraid Elf. In terms of aggressiveness. Of course, I would like to run both if possible...

It's like he's got Bushido that hits automatically, even if blocked! "Attack with 2 creatures, get 1 Shock FREE!" That's a deal that can't be beat! I would love to have a number of these guys. I like to imagine him flailing around on the bucking Ashmouth Hound, yipping and chittering like a psychotic little imp.

I like Raid Bombardment, and I like this even more with the 3/3 hasted body. The fact that it's riding a hellhound seals the deal.

Devils finally come of age.

Is this a new finisher for RDW?? The haste makes him top.

Congratulations R/X aggro decks, you do not even have to get your attackers through anymore. Just drop this guy swing with all you got.

Great addition to RDW also really great in a Kulodutha Red Deck. Might have to run more lands but worth it with this guy. Imagine all your little goblins poking you for an extra 1. Pretty brutal if you ask me. I'll take 4 :)

One of my favorite cards of the set. (Which is nice, too, because with a couple of exceptions Red didn't do so well in DKA.) Along with being a good, fun, hasty guy with a nice ability, I like that this guy existing alongside Hero of Oxid Ridge and Koth of the Hammer really makes you think about your Red aggro curve-toppers. Honestly, though, I think this is the most flexible.

The reasons are simple: his damage is more consistent than Hero, and you can shoot down planeswalkers with this guy. Hero can do the same thing, of course, but 1) he can't do it if he gets hit by the innumerable 2-damage effects out there, and 2) he can't do it well if your opponent has anything with 2 in the front. Hellrider gets around those limitations. If you have 3 other guys out and your opponent just played one of the numerous 4-drop 3+1 loyalty walkers, he just lets you swing at your opponent (which keeps you from having to overcommit to the Walker just to make sure enough damage gets through, which makes you overkill and lose damage against your opponent) while directing all his activations to their planeswalker. Also, as so many RDW-style decks are just itching for that last couple damage to seal the deal, the unconditional pseudo-evasion seems more worthwhile than Hero's abilities. Plus being frequently chumped and killed by a surprise Snapcaster Mage is a huge point against Hero at the moment. At least with Hellrider they need to have a Gut Shot too.

And don't forget that if you want a mid-game bloodthirst enabler, this guy's one of the few ways of consistently activating it while pulling his weight past the first couple turns in terms of usefulness. All that combined with 3 in the back makes me lean towards this guy at the moment, and makes me rather happy that I snagged a couple playsets at 50¢ per card. =)

The fact that this guy is even mentioned in the same sentence as Bloodbraid Elf (Two-color cost) and Hero of Oxid Ridge (A mythic, no less!), is a testament to it's raw aggressive power.

This card really tore my deck apart during one of the pre release-matches. Opponent had 2 human and 4 spirit-tokens on the table turn 4, this guy came out in turn 5, and in turn 8 it was all over.

Hellrider, slayer of planeswalkers.

No really, the turn he comes out you can take out a planeswalker. That's stopping power.

Is this ... is this as good or potentially BETTER than Hero of Oxid Ridge? At rare?

R&D, I'm not sure what red players did to make you want to love us so much, but baby, let's never break up again.

I love Red, and I always love haste. 3/3 haster for 4 mana is pretty solid enough, now made even better with an ability that allows you to score in more damage.

The fact it is not a Mythic like Hero of Oxid Ridge just means I won't be having as much problem in getting it.

Really good! It's practically free damage with a solid body, too. Great card!

USA Aggro: Blue has curiosity (Which is activated once for each creature you attack with and then once again for each creature that hits home), white has token generation on turns 2 and 3, red has Stromkirk Nobleand this bad boy.

I like this guy. It gives red some remarkable speed once it drops, even against a seemingly insurmountable wall of blockers.
Now, something that I feel would be REALLY fun, would be giving this guy Infect via Grafted Exoskeleton or the like.

This card is awesome, perfect in an aggro-red deck. Combos really nicely with Curse of Stalked Prey! That, plus his ability makes him pure gold. The damage dealt by his ability is pre-combat, if I'm not mistaken, so if you attack with him and 2 other creatures...that's an instant 6/6 right there, and before damage is assigned. Wow.

I'd like 4, please.

@RAV0004
You are mistaken. Demons are the ones who are cunning and decieving. Devils are mindless pranksters, but their pranks "usually" (always) involve lots of pain and suffering for the recieving part.

Devil's Play is an example of a devil "prank" and reflects their personality nicely.

Pitchburn Devils flavor text actually explains a devils personality perfectly.
The ingenuity of goblins, the depravity of demons, and the smarts of sheep.

If I did remake my Walk With Me in Hell (my mono-red aggro/burn/Hero of Oxid Ridge deck) for ISD standard, this guy would be at LEAST a 2 of, and probably I'd run Forge Devils. But I won't.

It's a somewhat tricky mana base, but if you can get Vault of the Archangel and Hellrider both online....good lord, the other person is just plain dead to Hell! :O

4x Dragonskull Summit
4x Isolated Chapel
2x Hogwarts (forgot the name, sorry, the Red-White Innistrad Dual)
7x Mountains (for modern, Blood Crypt and
4x Swamps Godless Shrine come HIGHLY recommended)
3x Vault of the Archangel

4x Forge Devils
4x Torch Fiend
4x Ashmouth Hound
4x Spectral Riders*
4x Hellrider

4x Devil's Play
4x Doom Blade
4x Into the Maw of Hell
3x Helvault

*the Spectral Riders make your mana even clunkier. Use only if you have the Ravnica lands, because they are just me being Vorthos-Happy. See, this is a Ghost Rider Deck once you look at the whole thing :)

Does anyone have any suggestions for good White or Black creatures for a Hell-Vault deck?

With all the cackling and flames, it shouldn't take a Tracker's Instincts to find him and his Ashmouth Hound!

I'm shocked no one else has mentioned this but Victory's Herald and Hellrider. When you swing with even a handful of creatures Hellrider does Lifelink damage so you gain, he and everything else you swing with gain flying, and if even the angel and rider go through your talking about at least 7 Lifelink damage on top of Hellrider's effect! SO GOOD! I've got a Type II deck based around that combo. Back that up with Nightbird's Clutches, Rally the Peasants, and Niblis of the Urn and you have a pretty good chance of scaring the wits out of your opponent.

@RAV004

You might be thinking of D&D, another WOTC product. In that game devils are lawful, cunning beings and demons are spontaneous. MtG reverses this, having the devils be bringers of chaos and the demons being the ones who trick mortals to their doom.

Why has no one thought of any good combos in this discussion. I've gone through all of them and only once was curiosity mentioned. Arm with Aether, bloodthirst, Hero of Bladehold... give it infect and watch the opponents drop like flies.

The only thing that confused me was why this guy wasn't a knight as well. Another example of many players wanting too much from a card. He only costs four folks. Why people are bringing this guy below a 4.5/5 is shocking. Do you not like the art? Are you a born-again and refuse to use a "devil"? Did you mark it done because of the power creepage?

once it comes out, drop an Infinite Reflection on this when you have 4 or 5 creatures. thats 16 or 25 damadge even before blockers can be declared. im warning you right now while Infinite Reflection is at $0.75, Infinite Reflection can not only be decently comboed in stanandard, but a viable win condition.

This guy is epic. In my U/R and R/W aggro decks, he typically brings opponents down to 7 or less life by turn 4 when he swings. Top deck a Thunderous Wrath and GG on turn 5.

Turn 1 - Doomed Traveler - 1 creature total (Possibly with Flying)
Turn 2 - Gather the Townsfolk or Krenko's Command (M13) - 3 creatures total
Turn 3 - Midnight Haunting - 5 creatures total (2 with Flying)
Turn 4 - Hellrider - 6 creatures total

Depending on if all your creatures live and what damage you've already done (and which of their creatures are tapped) you can easily swing in for 10-14 JUST on turn 4 and 6 of that is unavoidable.

This card also works stellar with Tandem Lookout. Each tick of Hellriders 1 damage from others attacking lets your draw a card :D. Works decent with Curiosity too but you have to drop it turn 5 without ramping. In this case listed above, you could probably draw 4 cards off rip. Perfect when timed right.

Its pretty good.....

People don't talk about game play with this guy much here.
Ya he's a Devil who cares?
All you need to know is in red aggro you have the best chance of winning with this card.
When you go to buy a play set you'll see what I mean.

Unfortunately they were never in standard together, but what could be more fun than

Turn 3: Chandra's Spitfire.
Turn 4: This

For a card that generally plays into fast aggro, it's got quite a bit of combo potential.

I love playing this BEAST of a card with Krenko.

Me: "GO MY GOBLIN ARMY, ATTACK!"
*Hellrider kills my opponent before the goblins even hit*
Random goblin in the crowd of hundreds: "Kill stealing jerk"
Hellrider: "Tro lo lo lo lo"

The element of surprise is what's so deadly about this card. Playing my rakdos deck, I often find myself with three monsters on the field which have lowered my opponent to really low life. He's feeling smug with big creatures out and ready to stop anything hitting him and then you pull this and kill him before the attacks even go through. With haste, he has no chance to respond either especially if he's tapped out from summoning those big blockers.

And @thewrathofshane: Controversial? What kind of religious fanatic are you? 'I'm Christian so if anyone mentions devils, it's wrong'. If you're really offended by that, maybe you shouldn't be using the internet at all 'that pagan voodoo'. And I just found your comment on Army of Allah too which is even more disgusting.

In a Red/Blue Weenie deck, I usually dump a lot of one drops (Somberwald Vigilante, Forge Devil, Delver of Secrets), then this guy and slap an Infinite Reflection on him. Even with just 3 Hellriders on the field, that's automatically 9, plus the 3/3 devils that are coming in after that.

Another problem I have with Innestrad is the power-disconnect between devils and demons. Devils are supposed to be really intelligent or humanoid demons, were demons are simply wild or ferocious otherworldy beasts. On Innestrad, devils are more like gremlins or imps than even demons.

@ LiterallyEveryone, no, I'm not "thinking of D&D" and no i'm not "sadly mistaken" when you're using examples of other devils from innestrad , this is why I prefaced my comment with "one of the problems I have with Innestrad is: ".

I'm thinking of the actual fracking source material. The stuff both d&d AND magic are basing their des cri ptions of demons off of.

Maybe when they are young they only have one head, growing up they aquire the second one and finally when they come back from the dead they become full scale Cerberus.
