Planeswalkers at instant speed? For a land that doesn't come into play tapped?

Winding Canyons is a straple in Commander. This one does require some colors, but works for nonlands instead of creatures.

This right here can break a game wide open, especially since there isn't a Stifle-like effect in Standard. How about flashing in a Primeval Titan during your opponent's end step?

flashing stuff like Increasing Savagery can be a real game-changer.
awesome card. mindgames will be played with it for sure

Another great toy for GreenBlue, the colors of instant-speed shenanigans. Bringing something like The Mimeoplasm out at instant speed before beating face is reason enough to run this - and did I mention it works with all nonland cards?

Not only does Refuge allow ANY non land card to be casted with flash, the effect also lasts a whole turn.

Eternal Witness (if mana willing) becomes a more powerful version of Snapcaster Mage, all creatures, sorceries, artifacts in your graveyard to be castable with flash.

If your mana base is tight enough you could put this in your deck just to mess with people without even intending to use it :P

So for five mana, my Grizzly Bear becomes... the best card ever?

This one's an amazing land. Besides the utility, the artwork is awesome. Giving Flash to anything for 3 mana is really good.

End of your turn delver?
end of your turn ponder?
end of your turn this end of your turn that. although not as powerful as the Innistrad Cycle of Ability Lands, this one has all the tournament playability that Spike demands but also some how maintains the quirky possibilities and intricities that Johnny will love, Sorry Timmy, this may be out of your league though. 4 of 5!

Dammit, MasterOfEtherium made me laugh. For that, I gave him more than one star.

I hate myself.

You know, I thought this card was good when I thought it was talking about the next spell you cast. It's all spells for the turn!

It's a steep price to swallow early, but you can use it to force an important spell late game, and lets you use any of your sorceries in interesting spots.

With this, and the return to Ravnica next year, the time has come for me to tear the cobwebs off the door of my inner Simic.

Hm, doesn't quite replace Winding Canyons due to the color requirement, but it does a good job on the versatility end.

Would have been much more useable if it didnt tap itself to use the ability (its not like repeat abilities of this card matter anyway) at 3 mana a turn, I prefer leyline of anticipation.

Maybe one or 2 in a deck that has UG and doesnt run utility already, but even then its pushing it. Ill change my mind if someone manages to find something that is just plane broken with instant speed in standard, but older formats wont likely use this card, that's just my guess.

I look at this card, and see horrible visions of a Simic-plagued future.

with so much more possible end-of-your-turn shenanigans now with this card, the more I'm glad I have my share of Sundial of the Infinite to counteract such tricks. "oh, you cast Primeval Titan at then end of my turn? I'll respond with activating Sundial ending my turn thus exiling the stack with your titan in it." ;) hahaha. Though I would think most players with Alchemist's Refuge would be aware of the above interaction and waste a Titan in such a way. Sundial is a good deterrent from this type of trick, if not the only standard legal deterrent I know of.

I'm pretty sure Gilder Bairn lives here.

My favorite part?
You don't even have to use it.

Simply having it out with mana available will cause your opponent to second-guess their moves.

i love this cad, it can be a bit costly bit the joy it can bring is worth it.

works well with Druids' Repository to build free mana so you can flash anything, anytime.

This is going to make my EDH deck insane. Just the fact that you can flash in sorceries is going to be a major help to my deck. I'll be able to cast my cheap sorceries like Nostalgic Dreams, Merchant Scroll, and Regrowth at the end of their turn for a decent price.

At least someone noticed that the cost is actually an oblique 3, so charting this card in could use some caution.

Nonetheless, I'm wondering if this should be an auto-include for Intet, the Dreamer Commander decks. Since Intet is taking care of the casting cost for you for the spells she's divined out...

Happyface1515, they're saying it costs 3 because you have to tap the land itself, making it unavailable to tap for a colorless mana.

Is it just me or does this card have errata because everyone says its three mana when it's two. Or does the gatherer have serious problems?
Edit: ok thanks I'm kinda newish to the game.

Scored this at the PR and before my first round, I thought it was good. I was wrong, it's ABSURD! For 1 Green Blue you get to insta-flash ANYTHING non land into play, for the REST of the turn! Think about that... I didn't even have anything good and STILL took 3rd place! Buy your and backup playsets and then playsets for your playsets now before the secret gets out and it skyrockets in price.

I wanna flash out Laboratory Maniac in a big multiplayer game that mills everyone's cards or forces everyone to draw until their decks are empty.

Not just because I would win in a surprising and unexpected fashion, but it would be fun to just go "Duhn-Duhn-DUUHNN....FLASH MANIAC!"

"Ok, after your upkeep, I use this land's ability..."

then stare at your opponent creepily and watch him freak out.

even more fun when you do nothing with it lol.

How could someone rate this card below 5/5 is beyond me. It takes people to actually play against this card to realise the power of it. This card is not just about happy flashing creature.

I played against a UWg control deck the other day. His has like 4 supreme verdict and 2 or 3 terminus in his deck. 4 Jaces. And then it goes crazy.

I was playing aggro, usually four or fifth turn he will clear the board, then he could always save up the mana for counters and restoration angel. what is most disgusting is

at the end of your turn, supreme verdict
at the end of your turn, thragtusk
at the end of your turn, angel of serenity
in response to your instant, I cast a sorcery!
..
.
.

that's how disgusting this card is.

A lot of sorcery and creature and enchantment spells, were not designed with able to cast at instant speed in mind. this card truly breaks the game. You people go and figure it out how broken it is.

EDIT: OK this card broken-ness just scored a new high, people are NOT SUPPOSED to cast a supreme verdict in response to casting a creature.... al at the end of opponent's turn. SICKSICKSICK

It should let you play lands as instants too! You still only get one per turn, and you have to pay 2 each time! Who am I kidding, it's too good already without being a repeatable Rampant Growth.

I still want them to print a land with flash though. Think of the possibilities! Your opponent thinks you don't have enough mana for that Mana Leak but then you play your flash-land and suddenly you have enough!

As an EDH player, I can't give this thing less than 5. So powerful in and UG decks. It's like you're playing a completely different game when this comes one.

1GreenBlue = All non-creature spells have flash? To bad Simic is a Creature Heavy Deck, and the only Non-Instant spell that has been spoiled would best be played during your turn... (I don't think someone would spend 4BlueBlueGreenGreen to Draw 3 cards and play an additional land this turn when they can't play lands during your opponents turn?). Other then that, does anyone know any good cards for the Simic that would make people want to play this card?

Read it again. It says all non-land cards, you can still play creatures.

Because you can.

OK there are a lot of reason this cards broken

in a 1/1 counter deck like green blue you can evolve a lot using it

playing the card primordial hydra on my opponents turn

and with gyre sage providing back up with 4 1/1 tokens is just mind blowing amount of playability

not to mention turning really good sorcery speed cards into instant speed is drool worthy

as well hands of binding becomes even more playable being able to play it as a instant

so heres a very good scenario

gyre sage untapped with 4 1/1 tokens on it so first tap her to float over all your mana

activate alchemists refuges land ability

play a card that can evolve gyre sage for a cheep price making her mana count 5

tap all but one of your mana(leaving one open) and play primordial hydra evolving gyre sage again bringing her mana count to 6

tap another of her mana for forced adaption on primordial hydra

so heres how it is

you have a 6/6 gyre sage, another creature, and a 6/6 hydra with forced adaption yeah that would be deadly

Instead of my usual attempts at wit, I'd like to provide some analysis for this intriguing megacycle of lands from Innistrad, namely how said lands fit into the overall design of the block.

Analysis: Alchemist's Refuge is one of the more flexible cards in Innistrad block. Its benefit applies to any nonland cards, whether creatures, instants, sorceries, enchantments, artifacts, or even planeswalkers. Avacyn Restored's Soulbond creatures welcome the fluidity flash provides, especially the heavy-hitting Wolfir Silverheart, protective Elgaud Shieldmate, and flicker-happy Deadeye Navigator.
