Love this card. Mono green instant speed card draw and life gain. Yes please :)

Looks great on paper, but when is green ever going to want to keep four mana open to wait for something to die?

Turn a strong blocker into free cards and life gain??

I like Pelakka Wurm. Even if you don't attack with him, the net gain is 14 life and 6 cards (using two cards to draw eight). For 6GGGGG which can be split across turns and lets you attack if you do. Spiffy.

I would still prefer Harmonize. I don't like planning for my guys to die, let alone leaving open 4 mana on the chance that it happens. Against blue this card would be dead weight, if it gets countered you lose two cards to their one and it will rarely be sacrificing a creature that would already be dieing because blue doesn't usually win in creature combat and has no kill removal.

If Harmonize gets countered, it's 1 for 1. If it resolves you gain two cards. It doesn't care about what creatures you can sacrifice. Sure it's not instant speed and it won't gain you more than a simple 3 cards, but it's simplicity is what makes it a powerful card.

This would be hilarious on a pumped up Scute Mob. Opps, you just drew most, if not all of your library.

This is a dream come true for Omnath decks. Get him upto 20/20, use this, draw 20 cards, use your remaining mana to play a whole load of them!

Worth mentioning that if you draw another Omnath in your main phase, you can play him and your huge mana deposit won't empty.

This card and Bear Umbra are going to improve my deck no end. Love it. 5/5.

I'm mixed on this card, I mean seriously, you have to keep 4 mana open, then sac. your own creature (even if it was going to die anyways), to draw cards. Soul's majesty is still in shards of alara (aka currently in standard for the time being), and while its not an instant your creature doesn't die in the process.

I still think it's really good, I just think there are times when sac.ing your own creature just doesn't sound as convienient as one might think. On the other hand.. if you had enough mana to swing around.. mark of mutiny or traitorous instinct with momentous fall sounds fun. Sarkhan vol (the original version) also a good contender.

Instant makes all the difference here. Harmonize would be strictly better if this was sorcery. Even then I'm not sure if Harmonize isn't better.

Does make a lovely pair with Vengevine.

I have an Eldrazi-Blast deck. The Novablast is very commonly targeted and this will be a good response after he's been able to make a few rounds in the red zone. Gonna be fun!

Kinda weak against blue, sure, but really damn powerful against everything else! Even with just Leatherback Baloth you get a HUGE boost when they try to hurt your pet. I love this card.

Good both as a react to a creature being killed and in combination with until-end-of-turn pumps, eg: Gigantomancer.

Okay, time for the noob question...

I have Aura Gnarlid on my field attached with Bear Umbra... I tap to attack and in response my opponent do something... (Path to exile, O-ring, etc) to remove Aura Gnarlid from play. Since I declared attack, all my lands will be untapped right? and so i can use this in response to my opponent's removal? how many cards and life do i get actually? 5 draws and 5 life? or 2 draws and 2 life?

In a sealed pool, a foil Momentous Fall was the best card I opened. Needless to say, that tourney was fail Momentous Fail.

this card is great in my eldrazi deck...
I willingly murder Emrakul's face to draw 15 and gain 15. Why? because I get another turn and I just shuffled him in, so im likely to draw him again. Thats why.
Use with Spellbook or Reliquary Tower.

With this immense amount of removal that is around right now, this seems like an incredibly solid spell for green. When combined with Vines of Vastwood, it give you some serious counter-capability.

The fact that this is a instant makes it so much better. It does look good to use this on Pelakka Wurm after you attack for 7 trample the turn after it came into play. But if you have 4 open mana (not hard for green) you can do this in response to your opponent killing that big beast you just worked so hard to cast. Not only does it make your opponent spend one of his removals but you have the potenial for some mad card advantage, and you get to gain life! This is a very good card.

Sweet to play with Omnath (I have a green EDH deck). When you play this and sac omnath, you can pay the mana cost and the "sacrifice a creature" cost in any order, so generally you float a bunch of mana, sac a large omnath, then pay the 2GG. The game looks back and sees the big omnath, so you get cards/life equal to the power/toughness of omnath before paying the 4 mana. Pretty neat

Thought Gorger is awesome with this card. I have a green black deck with this, thought gorger and vengevine. I ramp out Thought Gorger as early as possible for 3-5 counters. Swing swing swing untill I hit my momentous fall, draw about 8-10 cards. If im lucky hit another thought gorger. Play it then next turn swing with my 12/12 with trample. And if you kill him of with your terminate or your maelstrom pulse or even path to exile, i am not gonna cry about it because I get my hand back and then some. And more than likely gonna be able to throw a vengevine or 2 out in the process. Sounds like a win win to me.

Play this with Mitotic Slime using Oran-Rief, the Vastwood. This nets you up to 5 cards, 5 life, and two 3/3's which also create tokens when destroyed.

Combine with Act of Treason.

I love it. I use it in a deck where I take enemy cards with act of treasons, conquering manticores (splinter twinned, of course), and ray of commands, use them, and sac them before they can have them back (devour, this card, keldon necropolis, anything that lets me sac a creature for a mediocre to good ability). Most of the sac abilities in that deck are just ok. This one is actually awesome!

In a 2HG game, my opponent played a 37/37 Lord of Extinction that could kill us. I cast act of Treason to steal it, in response, he used momentous fall on it, and milled himself to death. :P

I really like sacrificing symbiotic beast with this card- 4draw, 4life, 4 1/1s, its a win/win/not lose. Attack with pretty much everything, your opponent will think you are crazy but will likely attack, which is nice because you will be able to block at least 4 critters and they will be open. Even if they counter, you will get the 4 1/1s, so it isn't a total loss.

Isn't this effect with sacrificing your own creatures to get power more like a black thing?
This has black written all over it, like sacrifice. Imagine Garruck cutting the throat of one of his own creatures to obtain power like this... doesn't sem very green to me. Could easily imagine Leliana Vess doing it.
This is an awesome card, easily being able to reload your hand for 4CMC. The lifegain is just icing on the cake.

Anything that draws a bunch of cards outside of blue (e.g. Ad Nauseum) is worthy of a look.

Now that its price drops to $1 apiece, I'm grabbing a set.

finally got to use this as a response, god it felt good:P
tricky as a standard draw tho, since opponent tends to destroy your fatty in the turn it comes in and youre likely to be tapped out.
i use a single one in my green fatty tho. shooting my treetop village can break a standstill.

Why do people worry about the casting cost? If any color can have 4 mana ready to play this thing, it's Green. And Green can do this spell early, and it can cast it on a huge creature early. Turn 1: Llanowar Elves, Turn 2: Leatherback Baloth, Turn 3: attack, and possibly Momentous Fall if the opponent tries to destroy it. Otherwise you swing every turn until they deal with your creature, while you sit on an INSTANT card draw for Green. Being an instant makes this card insane, you use it when you know it'll be successfully cast. This is one of the best card draw spells I've ever seen, and the cmc is perfectly suited for Green, as you should never have a problem ramping into this spell with a big creature for the payoff. 5/5

Good with Mitotic Slime or Wurmcoil Engine, as neither really care about dying a mere once.

@ Ching: That's a complex question, but I believe the answer is: you'd end up with no lands untapped, so you're screwed. Why? The Bear Umbra ability is triggered by your attack and goes on the stack, but the Path to Exile your opponent plays in response (NOT the O-ring as that cannot be played by an opponent on your turn; it's an enchantment!) resolves first and removes your creature. While your lands will still untap from the ability resolving, your Aura Gnarlid will be dead by this point and so you won't be able to sacrifice it.

Of course, if you had 4 lands open and didn't need the Umbra's untapping effects to afford Momentous Fall, you could play it in response to your opponent's Path to Exile. This way, you'd gain cards and life with the Aura Gnarlid's last known power and toughness before it went to the graveyard - good news for you, as that's a lot. Their Path to Exile then resolves and fizzles, so you don't get a basic land from it (see the FAQ for that card).

One of my favourite card, great in lategame in response to one of you fatties getting killed. even if used to sac a 3/3, it´s definitely worth the mana.

Kresh the Bloodbraided loves this guy. Either sacrifice him and draw loads, or get rid of somsone else and make the sac give +1/+1 counters :D

This pairs well with Phyrexian Dreadnought.

The Dreadnought's sacrifice drawback is a triggered ability, so you can cast this immediately after casting Dreadnought while the sacrifice drawback is still on the stack, drawing twelve cards and gaining twelve life. Not bad!

like a worse version on garruk primal hunter without life gain
and what the hell do you need to draw 20 cards for draw like 10 at most unless you need a specific card or you lose

Best to use similarly to Altar's Reap, not as something on it's own, but in response to removal to get all your assets back (and more.)

Don't sac needlessly; if they have removal; just get the ol' 3 for 1 or so on them (5 power, they lose a card, you lose 2 cards, gain 5 (probably the lowest you want to use it on IMO.)
