Ok, come on guys, be fair- the Shards of Alara Kresh may be worth 4 stars and that's all well and good, but didn't a FROM THE VAULT set deserve a little more juice than this? I think this is a good place to excercise the right to rate two different printings of the exact same card differently. 2 stars because no matter how good he is in play, there are hundreds of strong Magic cards and only 15 slots in a FTV box, and this just isn't Vault material.

I agree with DarthParallax: he didn't deserve to be one of the 15 FTV Legends, and while I'm glad they all got new art, I don't actually like his. In my opinion, the original Raymond Swanland art was much better.

This should be more popular in EDH/Commander. I've seen a couple decks with this now, and it just gets absurd.

Kresh + Fangren Marauder + Pentavus = big ass creature and tons of life.
One of the silliest combos for this guy I've come up with for my Kresh EDH is Moonveil Dragon. Pump a bunch of tokens via something like Mycoloth with the Moonveil, then Devour them. If you start with only 10 Saprolings and just spent on Moonveil, the Devoured Saprolings would buff Kresh +60/+60.

I've recently made a Jund based deck (color-wise) - found him to be useful with Marrow Chomper and having Stalking Vengeance on the field. plus counters for Kresh, Damage to your opponent, life for you. Basic, but effective.

You can make a really excessively mean EDH deck around him. I'm rather astonished to see him getting so much hate. He deserves better.

Until I got FTV: Legends, I never noticed it, but Kresh may be one of the few Magic characters with chest hair.
The funny thing is, devour is underestimated as a mechanic. Objectively, it's card disadvantage (with the major exception of Mycoloth), but the goal of devour is not to have a huge guy, but to utilize death triggers (such as Kresh).
Devour is only card disadvantage if you build your deck wrong. A good devour deck should use graveyard recursion and/or token generation. Kresh works just fine without Devour if you pack enough 187 monsters like Fleshbag Marauder and Shriekmaw, or one-sided wraths like Plague Wind and Disaster Radius.

This is rated 3/5? Swiftfoot Boots fixes Kresh's high price (on his head). Nobody ever used Berserk on a fatty before? Stuff dies, this guy will just reap the benefits. Imagine Phyrexian Dreadnought with Kresh out...whether or not you sac the guys to keep the d-nought, it's still +12/+12 for Kresh. Ok ok, simpler: Groundbreaker or Ball Lightning still gets it done. Goblin Welder will trigger his ability if you sac artifact creatures, and speaking of goblins: they get sac'd constantly for stuff...bigger Kresh. Nobody likes Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker?! Yeah...riiiight.

Commander game with everyone but me playing swarm and combo. This guy out (with hexproof enchantment) with some other fatties.
Just built an EDH deck based on him. I had Dragonlair spider and awakening zone. I had 10 tokens. I had Corpsejack menace out. I played Thromok the insatiable devouring all 10 tokens making him a 200/200. (due to corpsejack menace's ability). My friend thought it would be a good idea to Doomblade Thromok and didn't pay attention to the fact that i had kresh out. Kresh then got +200/+200 and i one shotted him. His face was priceless.

@MattLynn I think this guy is rated low because compared to some of the other legends in the box, he not very impressive. On top of that, a lot of people (myself included) don't like this version of the art as much. He just looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger flailing around.

If your Thromok was 200 when he was Doombladed and you still had your Corpsejack Menace, I would imagine that instead of 200 counters, Kresh would've gotten 400 counters. Effectively making him a 403/403.
Now, I get that people would want other legends in this set. But Kresh is amazing. He enables you to play 3 awesome colors, whilst ALSO enabling a ton of Graveyard shenanigans.
I play him in one of the funniest EDH decks I've ever had. No game is ever the same. It's not too powerful, to scare away my casual playgroup and it IS really competitative. Kresh gets alot of hate from other players, while playing. But that is okay. Just build your deck around the CONCEPT of him, instead of only him. Deathbringer Thoctar is a good card to have in play aswell. That, plus Doubling Season or Corpsejack Menace , makes you kill off 1/1's only to get an ADDITIONAL counter on Deathbringer. IF Kresh is on the battlefield, nice, he gets big, if not? Well, you kill alot of tokens.
All in all. I think Kresh is best when you build a concept deck with him to benefit from all the other shenanigans, RATHER than building a deck, with him in the center. He is too expencive and too easy to get rid off for that.

Kinda looks like bob marley + bloodbraid elf... I like the old art better. He was leading an army of Jund's mightiest warriors, he had awesome plated lizard skin, there was a dragon in the background, and it's by raymond swanland :D

My friend runs Kresh EDH... So much pain...
Kresh is interesting, looks a bit too late-game for normal I suppose, but in EDH, he almost always turns into at least a 10/10 within a turn or two. Has black, so terror and doom blade don't work, red burn is laughable once he's rolling... As a result, I have learned the great and terrible power of Mind Control. Seriously, if you run Kresh EDH... Get him some Hexproof ASAP, or people like me will flip him on you as soon as we can.
