I just don't get what's happening with this art/flavor.

@Mustache: It lives inside (and eats) trees. Thus it gains power as you control more Forests, and it can't be detected from outside the tree.

:D i love it! i always play with plenty of basic forests for land grabbing and this is like a living Blanchwood Armor

Only thing I've found is that when it doesnt attack it's a Disfigure magnet...Apart from that it's brilliant..Like the Common Scute Mob!

A green Tremor...Pretty good in an all green deck...but nothing else...

This is such an incredible bomb in a mono-green deck. Hes got his own personal Blanchwood Armor when hes attacking, and any sane green mage would be doing that with this little dude all the time. I run him in my green beast deck, and by turn 5 or 6 when I have 8 or so lands out, he hurts.

It's kind of a mixed bag. There are many green 5/5 for 4 beasts out there and the vast majority of them are very good. This guy is going to be even better in a green deck, attacking as a 6/6 on turn 5. However, When he's not attacking he dies to burn. I'd have to playtest him to give a proper review.

This, plus that card that gives +1/1 for each forest you control.

This card has actually won me quite a few games. Turn 4 or earlier 2/2 which attacks for 6/6 and keeps growing.

This has to be the greatest 2/2 in the entire game. I have him in my mono green deck. The only problem is is that he's not too good against a red deck with all of their instant damage. Once I put a Rancor on this little guy, it's almost an auto win.

Tends to attract a lot of attention from target creature spells, so I stick a Savage Silhouette on it. Works great mono-green.

In mono green, this guy is insanely dangerous, and your opponent will be reluctant to use none-red removal on a 4 mana, though he will do it when he realizes how quickly this guy grows out of control.

God, I hate the art here. It's like looking at a Yu-Gi-Oh card!

THIS DUDE IS A BEAST! For real though he is.

Everything can be killed by something, so I don't think that dying to Lightning Bolt is such a huge drawback (though I do wish that it was a 2/4). Rather, this card usually demands a removal spell before your opponent casts a Rancor on it on his next turn and swings for immense damage.
At 4 mana, some might find Timbermaw Larva expensive, but when you consider the fact that its power & toughness depends on the amount of Forests you control, you'd usually think that people running these have rigged their decks to get a lot of lands onto the battlefield quickly. Khalni Heart-Expedition, Cultivate and Harrow can all help you get your lands quickly, especially when backed up by a playset of Llanowar Elves or its ilk. Timbermaw Larva also fits nicely with other cards that depends on Forests or lands in general, such as Howl of the Night Pack and Avenger of Zendikar. :)
I can't believe how amazing he can be. Managed a turn 4 win with this guy. Llanowar Elves, 2 Culitvates, and 2 Primal Bellows.

I had a game recently where I naturalized a clone shell I owned for a Bellowing Tanglewurm, had this guy out already equipped with a Strata Scythe, and played a Primal Bellow. I had 6 forests, so that's a 20/20 Intimidate attacker.
Good-ole "I can die happy now" win.

You might want to run Lightning Greaves in the same deck. So When this comes down turn4 (or any turn) you can immediately crash the party and not worry too much about removal.

I may be wrong here, but Dungrove Elder looks strictly better. He is only for 3 mana, bonus for forests is always on and he has hexproof.
A buddy that I play with runs 4 of these, and I had to make a black creature removal deck, just to beat that deck.
Yes, it was worth it.

When I was introduced to this game, it was during Zendikar/Scars standard, and of course, being a complete newb I gravitated to being a Timmy, and Timmy meant big big green. This thing was an all-star in my first deck ever, which was just ramp, Overruns, Howl of the Night Packs, and 4 of these babies. Sure, it didn't have finesse, but the guy who introduced me to the game came to regret it when I would regularly kill his fancy blue decks by swinging in for 10 or so with a Timbermaw Larva.
This card is still one of my favorite cards, and I find excuses to use it everywhere I can.

Perma-Primal Bellow is nice, though the lack of defensive utility kills this card for me.
Also, what in the HELL is going on with this cards name, art, and type? I just...what?
@Mortipede: If you have no forests out, Dungrove is a 0/0 and dies. If you have no forests you, Timbermaw is a 2/2 and doesn't care. In fact, Timbermaw will always attack for more than Dungrove in the same board, so your "strictly" statement is quite wrong. Learn what that word means.

By all accounts I've heard, this is a very popular common. And honestly, it's so nicely balanced that it should be.
