Not too bad in Limited. But otherwise, no. Mosstodon for the same cost.

This card is retarded. It would have been FAR simpler just to make it a vanilla 5/3. Or heck, a 5/4. This is just bad design.

A 5/3 for 5 but only when attacking. Green can do a lot better.

Completely terrible. Compare to Mosstodon. Heck, I'd rather play Stampeding Rhino and get 1 more toughness, power on blocking, and trample for the price of 1 power on the attack.
And everybody thought M10 was overpowered. Hello, Chimney Imp II!

I think you guys are missing the point of why cards like this get printed
your avg kid that is just getting into the game wont have the understanding of the sometimes confusing, convoluted rules and meta game it takes to appreciate why this is such a good or bad creature and also wont have the money (in most cases) to get alot of good cards and will end up having to play guys like this that in turn end up teaching them subtle game mechanics such as creature pumping by having funny abilities like getting +5 to it's power when it attacks...
dont get mad at stuff like this the game NEEDS it or new players would not catch on as easily
3/5 for helping little Billy learn how to play magic
I'm sure Wotc considers this an important part of the bussiness

I'm sure there is a card that can let's say can make power 2 or less creatures unblockable, and then attack... hmmmmm *ponders
Per Magasul's post, there are a million cards that benefit creatures with low power. Everyone always gets SO convinced that there is a card which is better than another based on raw stats. You have to remember that sometimes an ability which seems harmless (or even negative) is, in fact, a chance to develop a combo.
Note that it triggers whenever he attacks, so attack 2x in one turn and you've got yourself a 10/3.

meekstone: any creature with power greater than 2 does may not be untapped as normal during the untap phase.
for 1 corlorless....
now if your playing anything that isnt a weenie deck that does not pump up your creatures your gonna have a VERY hard time with this card

It's not meant to be better than Mosstodon or Beacon Behemoth, at least not in every situation. If you honestly think that this card is just a 5/3 is a very slow magic player. I'm sorry, I thought crafty pathmage abilities were fairly obvious.

I get that this is for newer players to understand mechanics and start out simple but, plain and simple noobs can just learn themselves from the instruction leaflets in the boxes. If they can't understand how Giant Growth or first strike work I don't give two %#@!'s. I would love for them to fill up a perfectly good slot with a crappy creature, NOT. Why not bring back Sakura-Tribe Elder But no! noobs have to take up my time and money.

anything that gives you multiple combat phases (world at war) will let this guy get big, but if you don't want to combo him with that or one of the aformentioned cards, then yeah, mosstodon is better.

What if something is on the field that keeps creatures with a power greater than X from attacking? Or what if you have a beneficial ability that can only be used if the target's power is low enough? Bramble Creeper can get past those because it/s a 0/3; when he attacks, he'll still have the benefits.
Some things I can think of are using any of the "{T}: Target creature with power 2 or less is unblockable this turn" creatures, or still attacking when someone has Ensnaring Bridge out and 0 cards in their hand. You'd also be able to bring it back with Reveillark.
Easy to combo. You could make it unblockable with Goblin Tunneler, true. But why not splash green and red together and run Hellkite Charger enchanted with Bear Umbra? Not only do I get infinite combat phases, but my attackers get bigger each time!
This card can be cruel if you exploit it's ability, and 5 power for 5 CMC isn't horrible, specially considering you wouldn't be blocking much with this anyway. It's not a great card, but green/red has plenty of ways of having this kill you quickly. As saying this is worse than Mosstodon or anything else, all cards can be good or bad depending on context.
People complaining about this card have no ability to think outside the box. There are so many way sto abuse having 0 power, most of them already mentioned.
There is one reason that springs to mind for why this card is so atrociously useless: its name is Mosstodon.
Mosstodon is the same cost to cast, has 5 power even when defending, and has a useful ability. It's also a common, making Bramble Creeper pointless in every way.
The same argument can be made for Beacon Behemoth, and no doubt countless other green cards. Bramble Creeper is about as deadly or desirable as actual brambles.
Edit: it's true that there are some benefits to having a low power that is then boosted upon attack. Goblin Tunneler is something that would help it out, although Valakut Fireboar would be a better candidate than this.

Sweet thx for mentioning those, and of course how could I forget Goblin Tunneler *forehead slap*
This looks like one of those cards you see in duel-decks from time to time that is "bad" in a vacuum, but has fun interactions with other cards in the deck or can exploit some part of the opposing deck surprisingly well.

"Attach Bear Umbra and set up Aggravated Assault for infinite attacks of infinite damage."
Infinite attacks allow you to kill someone with a Chimney Imp. It would actually be easier to kill players in that scenario with the Imp, as it has flying to it's credit.
This card is terrible. You basically have a 5/3 for five, but some are ignoring those horrible stats because it has the potential to grow with additional attacks in the same turn. But practically every creature benefits from extra attacks. The additional bonus this thing gets is completely "win more".

Wow, that's even worse than Hollow Dogs. The dogs are even strictly better when disregarding colors - and i can't remember black single-colored creatures being better than green ones!
A reprint of Panther Warriors would have been far cooler in my opinion. If these were not what Wizards wanted for M10, maye a functional reprint of them, or even a nerfed variant could also have been done instead.
Maybe they also just wanted to impress new players with a +5/+0 effect, tricking them into liking bad cards :D
Yeah, i know some of you don't like the term 'strictly better', and you could argue that Bramble Creeper gets better if you use something like Relentless Assault. But all that 'strictly better' tries to express is the general use: Even an Eager Cadet can get better than an Ardent Recruit if Muraganda Petroglyphs is in play, nobody denies that. We could add an adjective and settle with the term 'generally strictly better' to make things clear, but that would redudantly elongiate the name of an (at least most of the time) pupularly understood concept. Well, maybe call it GSB for short, lol.

It's too bad the ability wasn't "when bramble creeper becomes tapped", as that would make for many many many beneficial and huge combos with this guy, making him great at common, acceptable in limited, and powerful in standard.
I don't think this card deserves some of the complaints about it- for one thing, it's 5 unblockable damage if you happen to have a Goblin Tunneler to help him along.

Sure it has places where it shines, but most of the time it can be thought of as a 5/3 for {4G} that gets -5/-0 if it's not attacking
Anyway, really bad unless you have 2 combat phases.

Becomes a house with extra combat phase effects, and is highly splashable. I feel like there are a couple narrow decks where triggering the ability multiple times will be quite feasible.
@Mode: The term you're looking for is "better". "Strictly better" has a very specific mechanical meaning and is reserved for looking at cases of strict power creep.

Like someone mentioned, Goblin Tunneler helps this guy tremendously, while you're at it, give it double strike or additional combat phases since you're playing Red
Neat card, I think it would have been a strong card while remaining fair if it costed 4 though
