Look, it's Goldenglow Moth's human counterpart.

Except like a million times better.

Whoa... this card is better then i first thought... they stack... so if you control 4 of these you gain 8 life per one that blocks, good card, i do not think i would run it in a soldier deck tho.

I want to try and make a Wall deck now.

The thing about defender lords is, no matter how good you make them, so long as they don't let walls attack, they still stink. Or at least they can't be broken. Which is the same thing in this game.

If anything, I think this card will be a key part of a competitive control deck. I really hope that happens, but I am not sure.

Would fit nicely in a white/blue control deck with Wall of Denial etc.

This is what happens when you put a Steel Wall, a Wall of Hope and Noble Stand in a bowl, refine everything with a decent creature type, then add a pinch of awesome and finally stir everything up.

Oh, and keep in mind he's cúmulative with himself. This means if you cast him on turn one and fetch two further captains with Ranger of Eos, you'll get 6 life each time you block with one of them.

Too f*cken cheap Worldwake! Make these cards CMC based on fairness and not rarity!

Love it. Low-cost, high toughness creatures have always appealed to me (I usually play pretty slow decks), and this card gives me a reason to play with my buddies Wall of Denial, Steel Wall, Wall of Frost, and others all over again.

Can't do anything with Walls?

W/B With Bond. And/or the Felidar Soveriegn

White for your big life gainers (This guy, Wall of Reverence, White Zendkion, Wall of Bone...)

Bad in slower formats (like EDH/Commander) but good in faster ones (standard/limited).

The Lifegain implications with this card are enormous. This in a mono-white deck with Soul Warden, Wall of Reverence, Armored Ascension, and whatever other cool tricks you want to toss in. This card is solid.

Every time I look at the art, it brings Excruciator in my mind for some reason.

Ability is great I'm goingo make defender-deck with this, and of course with Wakestone Gargoyle

Somehow I managed to draft three of these. I was like "What, really?"
I got them all out in one of the games, too... it was awesome.

I'm thinking maybe a white/blue wall deck with Felidar Sovereign in it would be pretty fun to play.

Holy crap.

It's a defender with 4 toughness for 1 mana, which is good.
It then adds soldier type, making it (marginally) better.
It then adds two life gain when it blocks, making it yet stronger.
It then EXTENDS this lifegain to ALL defenders, stacking for multiples.

Yeah. Holy crap, indeed. It could've been printed a little less powerful, IMHO.

I like this card, because it a perfect white flavored card (in contrast to Loam Lion). Even if it's crearly a bit overpowered, it doesn't focus on a 'kill opponent in 5sek' strategy... and this is a rarity by now.

Use this in my Open the Vaults deck, in sideboard along with Rest for the Weary against RDW and faster aggro decks. He is beastly against RDW. He's out of bolt range and completely negates the presence of Hellspark and Guide on Turn 2. Makes a turn 1 Guide look stupid. Only problem is he gets bolt'd while blocking. WoD is great and avoids such problems, but comes out a little too late against RDW in my opinion and can be hard to cast. Captain does the job from turn 1. I should consider making room for both in the sideboard, make myself RDW-proof.

I can see this guy being used in side in WW too. He's just great.

What happens when a palace gaurd with defender blocks multiple creatures do you just gain two or do you gain two for each blocked creature?

For those that say that Wall of Steel is awesome with this card should realize that Wall of Steel doesn't actually have defender.
Just says its a wall

This card have potential.

Just imagine if you have 2x of these, rage nimbus and vent sentinel.

Use rage nimbus to force one of their creature to atack.

Block with all 4 defenders.

Perimter captain gives you each 2 life for each defender blocking. That's 2*2*4 = 16 life gained.

Finish off with using vent sentinels activated ability and pinging an opponent for 4.

Oh Wall of Denial, how you and I can be best friends now. :D

This guy is rugged, end of story. Anyone making a control/defense deck should absolutely incorporate this guy.

And all creatures that are of the type "wall" gained defender as a retroactive errata, so according to the rules it is a defender the same as any other. Isn't the glossary a wonderful thing?

I have made a defender deck with the rise of the eldrazi , world wake and zendikar , 3 colors , green/red/white , putted 4 perimeter captain , 4 overgrown battlements , 4 vent sentinel , 3 gelatinous genesis , 3 pelakka worms and 2 hellkite chargers , stalwart shieldbearers etc... see where i am going?

Perimeter Captain = just awsome

After my initial 4.5, and doing more thinking, I'm gonna drop it to 3.5.

Like basically all defenders, this card is useless versus combo and control. It's not going to stop your opponent from ramping to warp world, or time sieve combo you, etc. Against something like UWr planeswalkers it's not stopping planeswalkers from killing you. etc.

This means he's a sideboard card against aggro, and not only that he's competing against kor firewalker and wall of omens.

Kor firewalker has a huge win vs RDW than perimeter captain does against any other deck you would side them in, be it vampires, jund, etc. This generally makes kor the better choice.

Wall of omens might be slightly worse vs aggro decks compared to perimeter captain (1 less mana and gaining life vs cantrip). However, it's much safer to maindeck wall of omens, since if you get stuck in a control/combo matchup, wall of omens isn't a completely dead card since it cantrips for you. Perimeter captain would sit around and do nothing.

In a void it's one hell of a card, but the competition is too stiff.

Even in limited I'm not sure how he fares. Z/Z/W limited is a really fast format; it might be too much for him to handle (I'm not 100% sure, I'm not very familiar with limited). If he was in Rise of the eldrazi he would be damn solid since the set is full of defenders, but unfortunately he's not. My guess is that if you can get enough defensive cards in Z/Z/W you might be able to stall for enough time to do whatever you need.

★★★★☆ (4.3/5.0) (3 votes)
Blocking with 4 gives you 32 life.
Captain of the Watch gives him vigilance.

That second piece of information was useless.

A good card, but the life gain mostly acts like a deterrent unless you can force an attack with cards like Rage Nimbus. As a life gain card on its own, not so great, but still a good, cheap wall.

1. Don't forget he's a soldier. (Even without a ton of defenders he can be fantastic D with some synergy.)
2. Don't forget you can block one attacker with multiple defenders.

I like to use him with white/blue defenders/walls and human/kor/merfolk soldiers.
I love this dood, 5/5 defender lord imo. Very white.

Not quite. If you equip him with Warmonger's Chariot, the fact that the Captain gives him vigilance is quite useful.

A descent card, works good with guardians of akrasa, after u have them both on the field then equip guardians of akrasa with shield of the righteous which will boost his toughness from 4 to 6 and he gains a useful ability when thats all done just keep blocking with him and perimeter captains ability will give u alot of needed life (u can never have too much life)

AWESOME for boros if you want to play defensively instead. Imagine carrying a boros fury shiled, dropping lust for war on the enemy, and sitting back. They attack (they have to) they take 3 damage, you gain 2 life (or more) and then if they'll actually break through, just fury shield em.

Oh yes.

Your goblin guides sure look silly now, don't they?

This card seems like such a sleeper hit against decks like boros, vamps and RDW, Especially RDW. Essentially neutralizing their first three turns or so is absolutely crucial in getting to turn four to day and then laying on the wurmcoil action. Generally an overlooked SB card, I think.

I think you misread the card. each creature with defender that blocks gives you two life. not each creature gives you two life multiplied by the number of creatures with defender you have. so if you have three out and block with one, you gain two life, not six. still not a bad wall at all though.

Oops, didn't see that you said captain, sorry, you were right :P

Compares and contrasts well with Wall of Hope and Wall of Essence; but I think Perimeter Captain takes the cake - especially in decks with a good number of walls (or other creatures with Defender).

The best thing about the Cap'n here isn't his synergy with defender, it's the fact that he's a Soldier with defender synergy. Even if he's the only defender in your deck, if you're running a soldier deck, he can become a very scary wall just by himself. I still think I prefer Valiant Guard, if only because once you get all your lords up and running she can join the fray herself, but there's no denying that the Cap'n here will keep you alive for long enough to get your army ready and primed.
