My opponent used this on me on turn four and was smiling widely... i took out my Defiler of Souls and his smile turned out to be in a gruesome "oh god"... what a pain in the ass... and on my turn, i used my Slave of Bolas leaving my opponent defenseless taking a huge 13 damage...my opponent conceded...

They look like a couple of fat, planar tourists! lol

It's not that bad. It depends on the deck you're fighting.

There is no greater joy than an opponent playing this card and allowing you to pull out a Shriekmaw to immediately kill it.

You can limit how much your opponents can search with Aven Mindcensor, or just stop them outright with Mindlock Orb.

It's very cool when your opponent puts this on the battlefield then you search for something like Progenitus, Autochthon Wurm, Kederekt Leviathan that may let you search for another creature to battlefield or Kuro, Pitlord for example

I like following this with a Breaking Point, especially in multiplayer.

Yeah, pretty much everyone's going to have at least one thing in their deck that can beat an 8/8 with trample. These guys are basically only good for use with Pandemonium or Electropotence.

Agreed, littlebeast. I'm running 3 of them and 3 Brion Stoutarm in a Pandemonium deck, and I use Brion to offset some of the damage that i'd be taking. Also great with a few Obsidian Battle-Axe or Ronin Warclub.

In a morningtide release tourney my opponent summoned this and in response i put into play my Æthersnipe . I bounced his heavyweights back to his hand. unfortunately it only bough me some time because the heavyweight came back with a vengeance and trampled all over me. Still i put it into my giant deck and hope to destroy whatever my oppenent pops out.

"Seriously? Cool! I put Progenitus into play."

This has become very dangerous with Rise of the Eldrazi.

It's drawback is like that of the Phyrexian Negator; It's still really good against blue if you get it out really fast.

I think that it's worth pointing out the control potential of a card like this. Your opponent gets the chance to put his best creature on the battlefield for free, and if you're smart, you'll have a way to deal with it.

True, you could destroy it with t Breaking Point as suggested, but that requires your opponent to already be in such a tight spot that killing every creature is preferable to taking six damage. Leave some mana open for a Traitorous Instinct, Act of Treason or other such red one-turn control card (or a blue one, maybe, but Giants and blue seem to be at odds with each other), grab your opponent's Kozilek, Butcher of Truth or Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and laugh at his shocked expression. Of course, there's a long list of ways this could go wrong (the list being comprised of every significant creature with protection from red, shroud, or a notable come-into-play ability), but in that case, Obsidian Battle-Axe makes a great back-up plan. Use the Axe regardless.

The mana requirements for this shouldn't be too steep, since as a good Giant player you naturally run four Stinkdrinker Daredevils. This play is strictly casual for sure, but I doubt that anyone will expect a control play centered on a Giant.

Play these guys then Crush Underfoot, dealing 8 damage (10+ if you have say a Sunrise Sovereign in play or Obsidian Battle-Axe to equip to these guys) to the creature your opponent gets out (fairly likely it's going to be less than */8 or */10)

Plus if you have a Stinkdrinker Daredevil out = cool 3 mana combo.

Thank you Leonin Arbiter for my T4 (or earlier!) 8/8 trample w/ no drawback!

I use a couple of these as bait for Gilded Drake. Works surprisingly well. Oh your going to grab Emrakul? Well here, why don't I take that and you just have this 3/3 Flying instead?

Very fun, very well made card. Has a lot of potential, but you can't just drop it blindly without asking for trouble.

"Emrakul can't be targeted by colored spells"
1) A spell is any card that is on the stack
2) Colored abilities like those of fatestitcher, Cunning Sparkmage and Gilded Drake are not cards and therefore not spells, however if those cards were on the stack and used those abilities on the stack then they can not target Emrakul because there sources are from colored spells
3) "When 'Name' enters the battlefield" is a triggered ability from something on the battlefield and not the stack
4) I can read just fine and eak1801 I'm taking your combo :D

The problem comes when they get a creature so big that red can't effectively burn it. Red really struggles with killing larger creatures, and the Heavyweights can land you into trouble in this area. Also, this notion of 'I'll just lure out your creature and kill it' goes two ways: what if the opponent takes the opportunity to grab their Shriekmaw -- or worse -- Angel of Despair? You're then behind in tempo and card advantage.

Sure, this card is probably best used as a gimmicky / fun card to be comboed with Shadow of Doubt / Leonin Arbiter / Stifle, or to maybe to be used with Repercussion, or perhaps even to be played in a "Group Hug" multiplayer setting. I still would have liked it to have had haste added on there. That way, it would serve well as a sort of high-risk high-reward Ball Lightning.

If you don't like the downside, run Stranglehold.

8/8 Trample. for 4 mana. You just KNOW the Johnnies are going to break this. Thankfully Dies to Doom Blade.

MarkBGH: Leonin Arbiter is the Mana Leak. Stranglehold is the Counterspell. Grafdigger's Cage is the Force of Will.

Mindlock Orb is one solution. If you want to stay in color, Stranglehold or Torpor Orb are also good for the job.

How about Torpor Orb? Just build a deck of fatties with ETB effects like this one.

The savest and simplest way to play this should be with Grafdigger's Cage or Stranglehold on the field.
Leonin Arbiter works too if you play white, but only if your opponents can't afford to pay 2.
Control-changing or bounce effects should be awesome as well - unless your opponent brings a creature with shroud or hexproof).
Or simply stick to good old Stifle.

Just got this card in momir basic. It's awesome. It's almost an instant win. An 8/8 turn 4 is awesome when they get no profit from it.

I had an opponent pull this the other day in multiplayer. I got a glimmerpoint stag, and targeted the giant. At the end of turn, I got another, and I had eight total creatures in the deck that could do the same thing and the game got crazy.

If you are going to lay these guys down you best be ready to Murder somthing. Or as stated before Torpor Orb and that ilk. I wouldn't touch this outside of red/Blue And/or Black

Boldwyr Heavyweights --> Shriekmaw!
Boldwyr Heavyweights --> Sower of Temptation!
Boldwyr Heavyweights --> Wurmcoil Engine!

Even a lowly Fiend Hunter pretty much undoes all your work. If you have a combo like Torpor Orb, sure. But don't just stick him in a random deck, it will almost always backfire badly.

A sideboard card, but a great one for when your opponent is playing no creatures or playing weenies. Played this recently when my opponent was playing his "Reforge the Junk" deck (bunch of cheap artifacts, Molten Psyche, Reforge the Soul, Devastation Tide). This entered the battlefield and opponent got... Memnite.

Pshhh, combos? Play this card, give it haste because you're red, and kill your opponent. Unless you're facing big green you'll be fine. Let them have their titan or whatever.
