Valor Made Real with THIS, is purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-fect. Won't hurt if you add a Gorgon Flail on it, for MASSIVE Death!! HAHA!! It can also help it's weird friend, DoP (Divinity of Pride)
this looks like a very useful card, it would be perfect in my eyes if only the artwork werent so anime-like. seriously, this is magic the gathering, not yu-gi-oh the gathering. this card stands out from practically every other card printed and not in the good way. its like the red headed step child in an otherwise perfect family. anime DOES NOT belong in magic the gathering, thats the bottom line.

A bit confused as to how damage is traded when Souls of the Faultless blocks.
I'm fairly new to MTG. I played two of these earlier in a W/B Orzhov deck, while my girlfriend dropped Howl of the Night Pack, and Overrun then swung with everything for a 'supposed' win since we both had 5 or so life left.
During my block step, I block two of her now 5/5 (w/ trample) Wolf Tokens, with two Souls of The Faultless.
NOW... does SOTF's ability trigger when I block her two wolves, and bounce back to hit her for 10 damage and the win right there? Or, does that damage/life gain not get counted until AFTER the attack ended, meaning she won the game?
Either way its great card and my favorite wall. Many thanks.

This is potentially the most evil card I have ever played against. I had my 9/9 Pathrazer of Ulamog, had it equipped with a Hendron Matrix making it a 20/20. I had exactly 20 life. I go in for the kill and what does he do? He throws this thing under the bus! -20 for me +20 for him, game over.

@AEKblackheart - I'm pretty sure that the ability triggers upon the Souls taking damage, which happens in the damage step. Declare Attackers step, Declare Blockers step, Damage step. The damage & Life gain/loss would happen instantaneously I think. I could be wrong, tho. Might be something to take to the MtG Rules Q&A forum @ community.wizards.com...
@SGLinkmaster - I could be wrong on this, too, but I think when it comes to damage/lifelink/Souls' ability, your Eldrazi only dealt 4 damage to the Souls, that's as big as the Souls are, how could it deal more damage than there is toughness to take it?
I don't know, but that's what I'm think on those things...
Awesome card, one of my fav's.

The damage is all dealt at the same time, so that game can be considered a draw. Why did your gf play the overrun and attack if you had the souls of the Faultless out?

@aerzyk If the pathrazer doesn't have trample from some other means, it assigns all it's combat damage to the Souls, as long as that's the only creature blocking it

Hello there, Sleeper Agent! :) Centerpiece of "forcing-enemy-creatures-to-attack" decks, especially if you have it gain the ability of blocking multiple creatures, like other people said, and have it enter the battlefield during an opponent's combat phase.. However, it has to compete with Meglonoth if you have access to mana of these colors..

@AEKblackheart I have to disagree with the other two responses to your question, that game did not end in a draw. Rather events would have unfolded as follows: Damage is dealt to you and your two souls. This triggers the SOTFs' abilities which goes on the stack. You die as a state based action (meaning before you have a chance to do anything) because you have less than 1 life. Then your girlfriend wins before the souls' abilities resolve.
Interesting fact: this is how lifelink used to work, but it has been changed to "Damage this creature deals causes you to gain that much life". Note the lack of the word "whenever", that's your clue that it happens instantly instead of going on the stack like the souls' ability.

A creature's toughness is irrelevent when calculating this and lifelink. That 20/20 Pathrazer delt 20 damage to SoF so he took 20 and his opponent gained 20. This is also the way lifelink and soul link works.
On AEKblackheart's situation. I agree with VonD, both SoF triggers would go off at the same time you die; therefore not have the time to resolve. Just imagine your summons disappearing into aether the second you lose.

THE BEST DEFENDER I EVER USED.
MAKES YOUR OPPONENTS THINKING TWICE BEFORE ATTACKING.
Only causes a draw if you're using Transcendence, I believe.

I've found that just by itself and the 3 mana spent to cast it, this thing shuts DOWN the non flight attack. Never actually got to deal damage or gain life with it personally but have played it several times with the same outcome. Once threw down an Angelic Destiny on it as a last resort, that was fun. It was my only creature, he/she had 1 of those 2/1 deathtouch Owl's and kept smackin me for 2 until I got down to 3 health and finally I drew into the Destiny which was able to hold off the attack for a turn or 2 and I drew into an Angel of Despair, targeted his Owl, swung twice with the Angel and GG. Just the presence of souls of the faultless has been enough in my personal experiences and that makes it a pretty solid 3 drop!

Someone, somewhere, has made a deck that involved attacking with this so that they can trigger both lifegain and lifeloss at the same time for some reason. I want to see that deck.

If the creatures attacking do not have trample, then their only choice would be to assign all combat damage to the blocking creature (if there is only the one). Also, creatures can have damage dealt to them that is far greater than what is lethal to them.

@LordCeviche: I would imagine that if a creature with Infect attacked and was blocked by Souls of the Faultless (SOTF, for short), you would still have to put -1/-1 counters on SOTF. SOTF's ability would not trigger because the damage dealt to SOTF was 0.
Anyway, this is an awesome blocker. Almost discourages attacking as effectively as Stuffy Doll. It definitely would be excellent if equipped with something like Ring of Thune (or the black equivalent whose name I can't remember) or Vanguard's Shield to increase its ability to block fatties. Eventually your opponent won't bother to swing with Worldspine Wurm because some moaning ghosts are in the way.
@ Lord Ceviche : You gain life, they lose life and Souls gets the -1/-1 counters. Infect still counts as damage.
This is my favorite wall and perfect Orzhov. It delays your opponent, feels excruciating, and I have killed a few people when they forgot I had this on the field and swung with something nasty. Alongside the new High Priest of Penance this becomes some evil fun. Your opponent will freeze up as you whittle them down.
The perfect Pariah, in both flavor and function. (That's the closest Magic will ever come to letting you literally take hostages.)
It could be pretty hilarious to cast this off Aluren, too.

I don't see a reason why they had to make this so hard to cast.
I used to love this card. But after some frustrating casting issues, I have to say I'd have liked this card sooo much more if it was instead.
I can see why they made it double-black: Lifegain is white and black's thing, but lifeloss is only black's thing. However, being a 0-power defender balances that out again. And Soul Link, which also has a 'flavor polarity' of activeness, passiveness and lifegain, also costs .
Double-costed two-drops are hard enough to get out on turn two already. Three-drops that use three colored mana are even harder to get out on turn three.

i dont need it broken.i would just give it indestractible and flying/reach and block turn.yea sure, tramble yould still pass through som dmg but the the life gain sould be enought to cover this...ass for token armies.a wrath of the god can make the trick.

Soul of the Faultless is not an artifact. Guardian Beast would not make it indestructible. Try something like Darksteel Plate, Eldrazi Monument, Indestructibility, Shield of Kaldra, or Shield of the Oversoul. By the time you get all three cards out, you might as well just put Pariah on a Stuffy Doll for the same scared effect. One stamp better put a Guilty Conscience on the Doll as well.
