I like Stonehewer Giant better. Even in a samurai deck this guy isn't so great. Six mana can get you better than this.

Mutatman and Ultratog have a point here. Even if you grab his favourite equiment for Godo, you'll have a very hard time playing this card effectively in a samurai deck. Being red doesn't even annoy me that much, it's a single red mana you should be able to afford (although the splash might weaken your deck, though) Yet icluding his equipment in your samurai deck makes it rather useless for the rest of your creatures, though... But he also isn't a Samurai himself, which is always a downside in a tribal deck, also in this case for another reason: Consider that additional combat phases in a samurai deck can be much more useful than in other decks, since a) the power buffs from bushido didn't wear off yet and b) samurai can't be killed by blocking that easy, especially against chump blockers they'll be able to attack a second time effectively unharmed while your opponent's creatures will have a hard time blocking without dieing. Yet Godo's little 3/3 body won't be pumped up by being blocked after the first fight, therefore he has no great chances to survive since your opponent will focus on killing him anyways. On the other hand you'll likely equip him with the grabbed equipment, which could either be Tenza to make him a 6/6 trampler, or maybe Whispersilk Cloak to solve this problem. Or even Lightning Greaves to let him attack immediately, which would you however leave with that little 3/3 body.
But man, shortly disregard everything i said and consider that you're going to put a freaking red barbarian six-drop in your white samurai deck. Overall, the card isn't that bad, but it could have been cheaper, white, a samurai, or maybe even similar to Stonehewer Giantby letting you equip the artifact immediately to him, which would have made this card quite awesome.
I love this cards effects yet it bugs me to know that it could have been still much better without being broken...

Godo is good on his own, he doesn't need other Samurai support.
His signature maul, Tenza, is not the ideal equipment, but it can be a great option to trample through blockers and have the Swords score a hit.
Some good Samurai to pair him with are Fumiko the Lowblood who ensures he will mostly go through unblocked, Iizuka the Ruthless who may sacrifice any of these to get CUADRUPLE benefit out of Swords and Jittes, and lastly Taurean Mauler who is just boss.
White likes him a lot too - Stonehewer Giant has vigilance so he can enjoy the double attack too, and fetch more equipment to perfect your defences.
He does alright in a red based samurai deck, but his true potential comes out in a Lovisa Coldeyes deck. He is a perfect finisher with his ability to grab Tenza, Godo's Maul and swing for 8 on the turn he comes out with trample. Still his limited scope and Samurai keyword ability is a hindrance with him not being a Samurai too. 3/5

As far as kaimigawa is concerned, the combined affects on this card are actually pretty great, especially the secondary combat phase. I'm sure theres all sorts of equipment cards you can grab for it. There are still probably better cards at the same mana cost though. I assume its meant to be played in a white/red deck with sensei golden tail.

Attacking with Godo in a samurai deck is one of the best parts of being alive. Sure, you could lose the game waiting for the mana to play him. Sure, he may not have enough to win a particular game. But, there are those times when Nagao is out, another samurai is out, and Godo comes to stomp with a Lightning Greaves. Those times are windmill slams and unadulterated joy. The joy of the Godo stomp! Red/White Samurai decklist and discussion here: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=152025
This guy brings out an Equipment out of the Library and he can sort of give your Samurais and himself vigilance. Bring out the Equipments from your Library multiple times by having Karakas!
Used him recently to 1 shot two players in one turn.
Had Marshal's Anthemand Battlegrace Angelin play
Tutored Tenza, Godo's Mauland equipped to Razia.
Next turn played Psychotic Furytargeting Razia.
First combat phase swing for 11 double strike for 22 general damage.
Second combat phase swing for 12 double strike for 24 general damage.
Good game.

@jwolps: godo's maul ain't very good. I'd much rather fetch loxodon Warhammer if forced to play him

I miss the days when creatures could be powerful without being broken and costing 60 bucks a pop upon their set's release.
The red Stonehewer Giant, and so much the better. Godo guarantees your equipment will arrive, and a better-than double strike is super prime. The extra phase is awesome, not just for Samurai but also for Vigilance creatures, changelings and creatures you can get untapped. Godo also has a brand new friend in Batterskull, a creature with vigilance by itself.
Did they not even look at EDH/Godo when making this? Ol Godo gets around that big nasty 7 quite nicely thank you. A 13/13 with those abilitys for 1? Sign me up.
Play this guy. Search for the Greaves and attack. Remove the greaves and blink him. Search for the wargear and attach it to him. Attach the Greaves. Attack.
Then attack again.
:D (I.E. I'm pointing out that if you blink him you can have him attack for the "first time" multiple times. Every blink you perform gives you an additional attack phase and an additional search. By using Grafted Wargear you get to tutor and attach free wargear each time you blink him.)

At everyone getting wet over Godo + Elbrus, the Binding Blade in EDH, Elbrus has a black color identity so you can't play it with Godo as your general. And even if you could use it I'd be far more worried about him fetching a Sword of War and Peace or similar.

When hes your general, so unfortunate that you would rather pull lightning greaves then his maul. Still you should slip the maul in their for flavor, could end up drawing it or your boots.
@Albatross Your wrong he only attacks twice with himself and samurai read the card.

YAY! Moar red tutors. This card is really dangerous. As an EDH general, he can fetch out grafted exoskeleton and then deal 10 poison damage the next turn.
He also makes a great tutor for red/x decks.

Best thing to fetch is batterskull for a virtual 14 power on it's own 8 of which is lifelink. Curves supprisingly well with Serra Angel.

Samuel Beckett's little-known sequel: "Waiting for Godo, Bandit Warlord."
I just had to. And now I've got to make a Godo commander deck and call it Waiting for Godo just so I can make terrible "the moment we've all be WAITING FOR" jokes.

Random card of the day, and it's one that I have fond memories of, so let's get some things strait.
First, RetroGamer3, you are the one that is wrong, read the friendly card, it states that it untaps samurai before your next combat, it states nothing about what can or cannot attack during the extra combat.
Second, blurrymadness had stated a combo that isn't complete, if you wish to perform said combo you'll have to realize that there is no main phase between the two combats, so you never get the chance to attack again before you can "unequip" the greaves. Instead you'll need a blanket effect that gives creatures you control haste or something that gives haste at instant speed... Anger and Fervor do nicely and something to blink him also at instant speed... such as cloudshift, restoration angel, momentary blink...
As an EDH general, you can splinter twin with mirror gallery, and laugh as your opponents scoop up their cards in defeat... cause seriously, if you manage to get this combo off (you won't) you need only attack to get the extra combat and make a new token.
I have seen him used for the laugh, but I just don't see this guy being played seriously... gods... I must be in a bad mood... cause the laugh is usually what's most important.
...
Another comment I'd like to point out, Lash_of_Dragonbreath mentioned Elbrus is black. Color identity counts the card's "Color and mana symbols that appear anywhere on the card" and while he's got no mana symbols, he's definitely black where it counts... by that I mean his 13 pleasurable power and equally desirable toughness.

Use him as a general in commander. Then you can use Minion Reflector to make two Godos. One to fetch Shield of Kaldra and the other to fetch Sword of Kaldra. Sack the hard copy with the shield and swing with the 8/8 exile touch hasty token with the sword. Next turn cast Godo again for Helm of Kaldra. You could also pull it off with Splinter Twin.
Why isn't he a samurai? More importantly, why does everyone think he is a samurai?

He can fetch Sword of Fire and Ice or Sword of Light and Shadow to protect himself from the enemy at hand - or just get a Lightning Greaves and deal 6 to the dome if undefended. Umezawa's Jitte is never bad neither.

Furthermore, white provides Steelshaper's Gift, Leonin Shikari and good removal.

Herp derp
Elbrus The Binding Blade.

one of my fav cards in my Gisela EDH deck, but Stonehewer Giant is soooo much better...so why not have both XD
The first I used him to fetch Elbrus, the Binding Blade.
The other game I fetched Swift Boots.
So versatile....
