Although my favorite is Light and Shadow, I think this is the best Sword because it gives you the ability to deal direct damage and it gives you card advantage in let's say, White. Might even do well in a Soul Sisters life gain/aggro deck, as you would like to clear blockers and recover your hand.

Although it's pretty nice, this isn't nearly as cool as the old foil promo version

@ Hunter06: I must respectfully disagree.
I think the new art is phenomenal, and leagues beyond the old. I understand the abstract appeal of the old art, but the new is simply sharper, bolder, and badder-ass. Also, being that these swords (for some stupid reason) aren't legendary, I appreciate that Wizards is streamlining them and making them look like generic swords, because that's what they are.
Anyway, still an amazing card, art disputes aside.

"it looks like the other swords"
That's the point of choosing the same artist to do all 5 of them

I have to say that I truly appreciate the new art. I love the contrast of the sword against the Suns of Mirrodin. I feel that it's just more artistically and aesthetically pleasing. I'm beyond ecstatic to open, buy, trade for, etc. for one of this and the new Light and Shadow to complete my collection.

It's basically a Top-Down Lightsaber.

Wish they had given this and Sword of Light and Shadow the mirran symbol, so they fit in with the rest even better. They did it with the guilded cards in MM anyway...

Loving the new art. Already ordered one even though I almost just got the old one. The new art is just too awesome to pass up.
I also want to point out how strong this card is. You get to clear out utility creatures or deal even more damage to the player. The extra card draw means that after 1 hit, even if they remove it next turn, it is a 2-for-1. This card is just really strong. It's also a good source of colourless draw.
If your opponent has a blue/red deck, if they can't dig out an answer, they likely get steamrolled.
EDIT Finally got this in the mail. It looks so good. All 5 of my swords match now :) I like the old art, but all the new, matching art looks better together.
This sword is pure card advantage, if it connects you get removal + card draw without spending another card.

*Start art rant* I'm just going to come out and say it, this art is worse than its old art... the old art was very distinct and abstract, this is just a flaming, icy sword. the old art looked very different from its new cousins, now he looks just like the rest of em. :/ *End art rant*
As for the functionally of this card, auto 5/5, its not busted to the point of stupidity like Jitte or Skull *Clamp or Batter* but it is very powerful and will turn heads
Edit: This discussion, Iv'e created a monster :O Edit2: Great, I just pulled Sword of L&S, now I almost have to buy this one so it dosent look so outa place...

My only problem with this card is that I didn't trade for one back when Darksteel came out, and that it costs too darn much now. lol 5 stars.

Seems to me someone at Wizards has closure problems. They just had to finish the cycle, putting this in a Modern frame (and giving it the mythic symbol and Chris Rahn artwork). It'll be confirmed when they print the second Fortification/first Contraption...

Awesome card, the flavor does bug me a bit though. It's really more like a Sword of Thought and Action, since the Ice ability tends to tap things instead of drawing cards.

I remember people used to go like T1 Birds of Paradise, T2 this, then enjoy the game seriously tipped in your favor. Troll Ascetic was an even better target.
