This card is literally blinding in the undead deck. And the flavor text is glorious.

I was playing against a guy who's been playing for way longer then I have that INSISTED that "Can't attack you" included your creatures, was he right?

Yes, he's right... but even without Blazing Archon out, you can't attack creatures.

In Magic, the only things that creatures can attack are players and planeswalkers. You don't get to say, "Alright, Bill, I'm attacking your Gladecover Scout with my Walking Corpse". All you can do is send your creatures at an opponent's (or an opposing planeswalker's) face, and that opponent gets to choose how they block, if at all. You can't attack creatures.

As Blazing Archon says, if your opponent has it on the field, you can't attack them. If they happen to have a planeswalker like Gideon Jura on the battlefield, you can attack that planeswalker, and your opponent can choose to block as he or she sees fit, but if they don't have a planeswalker, then you simply can't attack them.

You may be confused by the "fight" mechanic, as seen on cards like Prey Upon. In this mechanic, both creatures deal damage to each other, but they still aren't, in terms of the rules of the game, attacking. (Every word used in Magic has a very specific meaning--even though "fighting" and "attacking" may seem similar in normal English, they refer to two separate mechanics in the game.) This means that if your opponent had a Blazing Archon out, you could still cast Prey Upon targeting the Archon, and, say, your Skaab Goliath. Because fighting isn't attacking, this would still be allowed, and once the Archon was dead, you could attack.

Don't spend your 6+3W on this, spend it on Iona, Shield of Emeria. Iona even has a larger body.

@RunedServitor:
It entirely depends on whether your opponent has enough power on the board to kill you already. Iona, Shield of Emeria isn't going to help you so much there.

I got this guy out with a piper on turn five the other day, had a favor of the mighty and a lightning greaves.

My playgroup banned me from playing this card ever again.

I've had this and Linvala on the battlefield against a mono blue counter/control deck. He had all his lands tapped. I played Iona. He got a taste of his own medicine. Threw his hand down and glared at me. They don't like it up em!

Expensive Mana cost, But Well worth it if you can get it on the field.

TheWrathofShane........Platinum angel does nothing against eldrazi since you will eventually have to sac her. This card stops the annih. ability altogether. Awesome card, but the mana cost is high. It seems you would need to entomb/exhume this to get it out quick enough to really be effective or rely on ramp. Thinking of using this in my blue/white control deck, but I don't have black to exhume it or green to ramp. Not sure it will make the cut.

Platinum Angel is better.

@kale
Thats one case where archon would be better. Another would be the titan cycle, and whatnot. You have a valid argument, but the angel is 2 cheaper in colorless. Also the angel is a false sense of security, were as the archon is lockdown. More often then not they will just let you reach negative life and then use spot removal.

One of the best flavor text and art ever printed. The sight of Blazing Archon makes warriors question the ineffable philosophical implications of battle.

I played against a decking deck with this card and a Defy Death. After being forced to discard Blazing Archon, I soon happened upon the other. The price was now five mana and not nine and I was able to win.

But because of how Defy Death works, I will agree that it would be just as useful on the Platinum Angel. Especially since the two +1/+1 counters (for being an angel) would bring it to the same power as Blazing Archon.

It's really annoying when you're playing the Graveborn deck, and he gets Cloned. Seriously, why does Graveborn have NO removal.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm stupid, there was a ton in there >.>

I was playing tonight with a player who misread the text as "Flying creatures can't attack you". It was pretty funny.

@001010011100101110

The problem I see with the flavor text is that while your opponent's creatures are weeping at the idiocy of war, the archon and all of your other creatures are slicing up your opponent. It's kind of hypocritical.

@TheWrathofShane

Unless you are up against a burn deck, this card is better. The fact that it is a 5/6 means that it can really beat face (5/6 might not seem that efficient for its mana cost but what matters is that such a big creature can have a really big effect on the game).

"Ok everyone, CHARGE!"
"Wait boss!"
"What is it, Dravin?"
"I've gotten this great R&R session going with the archon, and it's been helping me think that bashing things into oblivion isn't such a great career pursuit. You know, I'm going to go build a orphanage now."
"Dammit Dravin! Pacifists and their.... goals and ideals an' an'..."
