Ah this card is being horribly under rated, realize it says attacking or blocking creature, and the only thing you have to do is tap it. There are two reasons that's awesome. Say you play it on a thoctar, which also takes white as part of its mana cost making the color easy, and enchant it with sinstriker's will. Anytime it blocks, it can tap to do 5 directly to the creature even before its taken damage, and then do another 5. Even better it doesn't have to be the creature its actually blocking, so it can block one creature then tap to kill another seperate attacking creature. It makes all those non wall innocuous defender creatures actually really good, dealing damage to multiple attackers while defending at the same time. It's also of course ridiculously good with anything that has vigilance, lifelink, or death touch. Vigilance allowing a creature to attack and still use the ability at the same time (think twilight shepherd), lifelink regaining you uber life every combat phase, and death touch instant killing any creature without shroud. Prime example of a good creature for this might be nacatl hunt pride, forcing creatures to block as you please and killing them off.
You can view this card as though you are giving first strike to a creature, but the first strike damage can be redirected.

Hold on a sec Donovan. I'm pretty sure if a blocker becomes tapped, it doesn't do any combat damage. The block still happens, but the Thoctar won't give you any two-for-one deals. This card practically has to be run with green, as it is kinda pricey, and green lacks direct damage, while white creatures usually have laughable offense. I'm thinking about putting it in an exalted deck, since I'm only ever attacking with one creature. This and vigilance is nice. This card makes me angry that Seraph is priced out of playability.

Goes great in Orzhov, you can pay the 3 with a Dark Ritual.

Blockers do damage even if tapped. This is something that changed in the rulings, because it was confusing / annoying to people.
In a more serious vein, this goes pretty well with Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter in EDH. Pump the crap out of him with creature tributes, slap an opponent's creature with a lot of damage (gaining life from lifelink), and then kill another creature if you want by removing his counters.

Great for casual vigilance decks in multiplayer. Basically double strike against creatures and anti-evasive removal to boot. Just a fun card. Another way to abuse cheap death-touchers too.

This might be more useful now that we have inspired.

Slapping it on a Deathtouch weenie is pretty appealing. Deadly Recluse is apparently pretty righteous, and since you can strike blockers you can play this turn 4 and swing in with your 3-drop, threatening to zap any blockers into oblivion.
For obvious reasons, fun with Basilisk Collar, which gives the equipped creature everything it needs to succeed.
As a final amusing aside, this combos well with Bruna, Light of Alabaster, who can attack (Vigilance!) or block, pull Sinstriker's Will, and immediately tap to zot something. Seems appropriate, and heaven help your opponent if you've got a deathtouch enchantment floating around.

This guy is pretty darn beefy.
