Hallowed Burial actually puts Commanders into the cellar.

Awesome flavor and Donnie Darko shoutout. I like it as fuel for Splinterfright and Boneyard Wurm.

If only second effect was static ability instead of being linked to "upside down mill"... It's actually too low impact and unreliable as is.

Great for EDH. Spell Crumple or Hinder my general? No big deal...

If I live in a magical universe where great, evil, necromantic powers could lie in wait for the taking, I would open the door.

Ok so now we have the Rooftop and the Cellar. When do we get to see the rest of the Haunted House? :D

(It better have a secret Revolving Wall. Maybe hidding behind a bookcase. Just sayin'. I'm going to make a guess here and autocard something that I believe will be in Dark Ascension: Secret Lab Entrance.)

Date of Dark Ascension: months from Date Posted

it would be awesome if I was right. :D

This famous linguist once said that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words in all of history, that Cellar Door is the most beautiful.

I've tried playing this in various compositions of graveyard-fill and Boneyardworm, etc decks. With no success.
The Cellar Door could have been a great card in this set, if only it didn't cost 3 to activate. Just a /tap would have made it balanced. Or, a 3-cost but no tap requirement.

If anyone got this card to work well for them in any type of deck, let me know! :)

You could make a pretty beastly little Zombie Mill deck using this and Undead Alchemist, effectively doubling up on the 2/2 Zombies from the Cellar, which in turn can mill people further. Add cards like Lich Lord of Unx for additional milling.

@DarthParallax: I hope you're right! =D

This card is very flavourful, and it doubles as an interesting way to fill your own graveyard, if you're into that sort of thing.

Is this the only card that interacts with the bottom of the graveyard other than going there? I can't think of any others.

I didn't like at the first glance, then I realized that this is in flashback/graveyard reccursion block. Now I begin to love this card. You hardly reach the bottom of your library, so cards there are pretty insignificant for you. In right deck, you will either get flashback spell or 2/2 zombie token and possible reanimation target in your graveyard. Really nice.
I will include it into my Karador EDH deck.

during a draft i ran this after not getting enough decent cards, thinking it would be a good way to waste extra man in case of a stalemate. through the entire draft i ended up putting 18 mana into this thing, and it only worked once. While i never did this if i could do something else i figured it would be a bit more reliable than that. 1/6th is just bad luck, but assuming your opponent has around 24 land, plus a decent amount of support cards, the likelihood of it working is already less than 50%. I ended up replacing it with a land, which i did not regret.

No idea how it would work in a constructed deck dedicated to it though.

I found a REALLY good use for this outside Standard. Countermeasure for the Hinder/Tunnel Vision combo. Yes, I know someone that runs that in his EDH (-sigh-) Mill deck. And yes, it is annoying as hell. Even instant-speed shuffling doesn't completely protect you. I think this is the first card (other than tutors and counters, of course) that will.

Use with Tel-Jilad Stylus for some shenanigans.

Cellar Door + Jar of Eyeballs + Gravecrawler + Skaab Ruinator = BEST FRIENDS FOR EVER.
Seriously. It makes the two (third goes without saying) really sweet. Find something which gives mana, like some sort of sac outlet, like, say, Plaguemaw Beast and Proliferate the counters, then get that single card you needed later on when you crack the Jar (and right after meticulously reassemble it). Then put all the chaff at the bottom of your library where it belongs, and no longer feel scared about all of the Cellar Door activations. Hell, you can even start sacing the Zombies you're making if push comes to shove.

{3} to mill for one card?

Is it at least a common in Welsh printings?

This turns Soldevi Digger into a gravedigger, and gives Junktroller something useful to do.

There's probably some wicked shenanigans with Jötun Grunt, too.

Crystal Ball. You're welcome.

Scry, slap a card or two on the bottom. Use the door. Poof, zombies.

That's how I imagined the barn door to look like in the Tommyknockers-book, except with a creepy green light.

I believe this work with Undead Alchemist, which would net 2 zombies for 3 mana each time it's a creature card that goes into the opponents graveyard. That's pretty good seeing that zombie tokens aren't usually that cheap.

An interesting bit of trivia: "Cellar door" is considered to be the most euphonic phrase in the English language. (That is to say, it's the most pleasing to the ear) If you pay attention, you'll find similar sound constructions in a variety of places, mostly to take advantage of the pleasant sound.

If Leyline of the Void is on the field & I activate Cellar Door does it work even if the creature doesn't go to the graveyard? O_o

It can be useful against the opponent, but the real strength of this card is in putting your own card into the graveyard. It's a fantastic enabler for aggro-reanimator decks, along with Unburial Rites, Buried alive and Corpse Connoisseur. The 2/2 zombie is a bonus, but not necessary in the grand scheme of your reanimation targets.
