Well, it's good to see that getting hit with the nerf bat did nothing to dampen Jace's dickery. =)

Seriously though. That's just uncalled for, man.

I find this flavor text funny as hell.

WoTC needs to print a bunch of cards that have a little argument/ conversation between Planeswalkers in the flavor text.

Preferably them trading insults.

5/5 for flavour text alone.

Has anyone noticed the art similarities between this and reverberate? its like the red mage in reverberate is firing at the blue mage on this card.

Also, Flavor text is brilliant.

From now on when I see people say "BEST FLAVOR TEXT EVER" on any other card but this one, i'm linking this card.

Lord of the pit from the dual deck still has the best flavor text ever.

Even though Jace isn't a red mage, he's still responsible for plenty of SICK BURNS.

5/5 won my draft with a fireball thanks to this great card, a lot of uses and gets around "this card cannot be countered" not many cards that cost two and work well in all stages of the game.

Redirect and Reverberate. This is where blue is red and red is blue.

I love the flavor text too, but Garruk seems like an odd choice. Green doesn't really have many spells besides creature buffs that you'd want to use this on in the first place, and blue isn't exactly known for its aggressive creature strategies. "I'll Redirect your Titanic Growth onto my Grand Architect, hah!"

On the other hand, blue and green hate each other, and the flavor of blue being condescending to green like that is very fitting.

This is related to Jace's comment. http://mtgcolorpie.com/2010/08/22/lotus-cobra-is-evil-enemy-colors/
EDIT: Nucleon, it's because Jace is incredibly smart, and Garruk is a primal hunter (geddit?), so he's not really the intellectual type.

Shouldn't be rare, but the novelty of Canceling your Opponents Cancel with your Opponents Cancel never really gets old. It also makes Burn Decks its ***.

Deflection is back and it doesn't suck anymore YAY! :D

Wonderful card, so many fun potentialities. I think it will end up best used to protect your creatures from the large amount of spot removal out there (here's looking at you Oblivion Ring). This is the very essecnce of blue.

@AngelPhoenix

Unfortunately this spell does nothing to protect against Oblivion Ring. As a spell O-Ring doesn't target anything. You don't choose a target until you put it's "enters the battlefield" ability on the stack, by which time it's a permanent not a spell.

Doesn't dampen my love for this card though.

Got a question about using this with Geth's Verdict. Obvious: can I choose what they sacrifice or is not considered targeted?

@CaptainNinJoe...
Although changing the target of Haunting Echoes to make a player target him/herself sounds hilarious, realistically since it is a search requirement, the player does not have to find the cards (similar to how if you were silly enough to cast Rampant Growth without having any basic lands in your library, you would simply search, find nothing then shuffle your library).

That being said, card & flavour text are both still awesome, and the fact that it can be used to counter a Counterspell is awesome! (In response to their counterspell, change the target of the counterspell to Redirect, since Redirect resolves first the Counterspell will fizzle since it has no legal targets)

Other hilarious situations are causing an opponent to Lightning Bolt their own creature, or cast a Mind Rot targetting themselves for a 1-for-3!

Seems like a response to Garruk asking how to use Redirect! He's a fan of the titanic beasties, and not so much of the Terminates that keep making him a sad panda. So, naturally, he wants to swerve the spells on over to the opponent's side!
If you think about it that way, and think of Jace and Garruk as old pals, his comment doesn't seem so much a vicious slander as a chuckle between friends.
And, indeed, casting the spell is quite simple. You just need the power of two nearby islands and WOOSH oh dearie me

Good in casual since players actively seek out to screw their friends over with the likes of Target Player, etc.

In competitive though, I'd rather find myself with a mana leak, deprive etc. then this garbage. Afterall, while rediect might affect 10-20% of spells that target and perhaps amongst those 50% that you can actually find a legal target to redirect, a counterspell deals with the entire spectrum of spells. I certainly don't want to let a Primeval Titan resolve for the chance to redirect their lightning bolt to their tech creature.

if you really want redirection, look at Spellskite.

When compared to other cards of its class, Reverberate and Twincast are much better. Even if the spell does not target, you can copy it and use its effect for yourself, while with this, if you cannot find legal targets or it does not target, then it fizzles.

Redirect is more usefull against a hexproof deck - ie Lord of the Unreal or Asceticism. That is because you can target their Doom Blade against their own creatures, when your spells couldn't target them. It works in 2 ways - you keep a creature, and they lose one.
However I think @sniper_ix had it right, allowing a Primeval Titan to resolve, giving them 2 lands every turn until they play removal, is not as good as a hard counter, Mana Leak etc.

Works great when you're stealing an Umbra, Splinter Twin, Angelic Destiny, or Armored Ascension (since they still control the enchantment, the new creature will still get the buffs).

I kinda wish it could redirect activated and triggered abilities, but then maybe it would be too good :)

@sniper_ix: Interestingly, Spellskite also features a dig on green in the flavor text.

@CaptainNinJoe: Haunting Echoes wouldn't be the best spell to use this on, since your opponent could still choose to not find any cards in his deck. Though it would save you from it, and empty out your opponent's graveyard.

I have three of these. At the very worst, it counters a targeting spell and throws it back in your opponents face. Sadly, my brother (the only person I can really play) packs little to no noncreatures in his decks so 'I have no good stories.

Anyway, I would love to see this let you redirect an activated ability along the lines of Reroute.

When a creature attacks, you have to target a player to attack right? So in multiplayer could you change the target of a creature attacking to a different player?

This card is like some kind of dream come true for me-
I used to run 4x Deflection in a lot of my decks, as that was one of my favorite cards ever printed.
This is so much better it's ridiculous.

Pure Blue- Pure Awesome.
AND it fits on a stick... how convenient!

5/5.

Now print this and Twincast in the same set...

This came in during a game I played (though the cards are a bit different the effect is the same)

a) I unsummon your creature!
b) I redirect it to your creature with hexproof!... is that allowed?

Because, it IS A's spell targeting the hexproof so it's not disallowed by hexproof... is it?

Also with doom blade 's destroy target nonblack creature, I can't redirect it to a black creature and it'll do nothing, can it?

>>Crazycolorz5

Redirect opponent's unsummon on a hexproof creature that player controls. Yes it is legal, because you do not gain control of that spell, you just changed the target. However, you cannot make it target a hexproof creature you control since it is an illegal target for that spell.

You cannot change doomblade's target to a black creature because doomblade can only target non-black creatures. Black creatures can't be declared as a target for doomblade unless you somehow changed the color word with another spell or ability beforehand.

Let's see... Feels blue? Yes.
Great effect? Yes.
Appropriately costed? Yes.
Flavor text? Winner winner!

My mind is spinning with the shenanigans. You're going to cast Haunting Echoes? Heh, okay.

If you ever question the value of this card, slide a copy into your EDH deck. Watch what happens when your opponent tries to cast Time Stretch. Worst case scenario, he already has Karn Liberated in play with 14 loyalty counters.

@Nucleon: I'm not so sure it has to do with blue and green actually fighting against each other, but more to do with how they respectively deal with threats. In this kind of case, some punk casts Lightning Bolt or Fireball or something at Garruk. He can't do much, so he just braces himself for pain. The same thing happens to Jace, and he just flings it back. Garruk is impressed and goes "omg how did you do that".

Meh, I like swerve better....
The flavor text is funny though because in the comic when Garruk fights Jace this is what happens

Garruk: WHERE'S LILIANA!! >:c

Jace: MIND MAGIC! WoooOOOOooo--

Garruk breaks loose from the mind magic then proceeds to beat the shit out of Jace

Garruk: Bittch please..

I think your all getting confused as to Haunting Echoes if you would READ the card carefully you will find that the target player has NO choice but to search his deck for those cards AND exile them. You cant just search and "not find them" its the same idea as slaughter games, the target opponent can't search and just say oh i didn't find them in my deck. So if you redirect Haunting Echoes back to the person casting it. YES they MUST exile those cards they find in their deck.

@Angelknight118: From the comprehensive rules 1.4.2014:

701.15b If a player is searching a hidden zone for cards with a stated quality, such as a card with a
certain card type or color, that player isn’t required to find some or all of those cards even if
they’re present in that zone.
