Could you give me an exampe of when this card is played? What is a target activated ability that targets a single target?

The rules are somewhat fuzzy on what is an activated ability. But esseintaialy, any ability that has a COST to acitivate. Such as, tapping, paying mana, sacraficing creatures, removing counters, etc. A prime example of how this card pwned me is an opponent used it to reroute my Chandra Naalar 's 10 damage ability to ME. =)

In a multiplayer game someone once sacked a Door to Nothingness...then a guy (who wasn't even the door's target) Cunning Wished for this thing and killed the guy...and drew a card :P

Those stories of Door to Nothingness remind me of Garlic Jr. from Dragonball

Feels more like a blue spell. Yea, redirection is in both red and blue, but it's more blue then red, so something like this (Deflection for activated abilities) feels like it should be blue.

@yojimbojones :
The rules are not fuzzy at all when it comes to activated abilities. In fact it's precisely what you said: A cost followed by ":".

Ok, i find it way too funny that they put "Mana abilities cant be targetted" as reminder text. Because mana abilities dont target, and an ability that creates mana that targets isnt a mana ability and thus can be targetted by this card. but the inclusion of that reminder text will make it more confusing because you can respond to Spectral Searchlight and Witch Engine, even though their abilities produce mana.

Mana abilities can't be targeted becasue they don't use the stack.

Cheap, useful, and hilarious flavor text/art! The Izzet are thinking with portals.
Feels really blue, though.

Planeswalker abilities are activated abilities. Imagine rerouting your opponent's activation of Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker's ultimate ability.

@izzet_guild_mage how did he stack cunning wish AND reroute?
@Cathode Lol, it'd almost be funnier to reroute Bolas's first ability at himself.
@Hoonster Easy, Put cunning wish on the stack, then once it resolves, but before the doors ability does, put this on the stack, then let the rest resolve.
I want to see this target an activated ability of "counter target activated ability" to make that activated ability target it's self... does anyone know if that would work? or would it be considered an illegal target?

Such a niche and reactive card. You put it in your deck because you are excited about the dumbfounded look on your opponent's face when you swing the uber activated ability at them, but most of the time it is just going to annoy you in your hand.

Why is this red? I'm turning green with envy. It should be blue.
In all seriousness though... it's an awesome card. A swerve for activated abilities.

I'm surprised this doesn't see more play in Legacy and Vintage, what with the prevalence of the Painter's Servant/Grindstone + Dark Depths/Vampire Hexmage combo decks. Using this against the Grindstone combo is particularly satisfying, since it's an instant loss for whoever you change the target to.

Is there a good combo for your own creature, to reroute damage to a player?

No one has mentioned Strip Mine and Wasteland yet? Opponent loses TWO lands, and you draw a card!

Best ever tech against Grindstone + Painter's Servant. Not that carrying anti-Grindstone tech is a wise sideboard choice, but oh god is it fun to see them react to this.

I love the fact, that this is a spell that is able to force Royal Assassin to kill itself;
"I will destroy a tapped creature... But I am a tapped creature... HARAKIRI!" X-D
5/5 for awesome fun, just waiting to happen!

Regardless of how ridiculously good this card is (especially the cantrip, IN RED) the best part is undoubtedly the art. Seriously look at that elf's face. Priceless.

I find it funny that if you respond to door to nothingness, you draw the card before they lose. It adds a lot of insult to that lethal injury.
