Awesome card, give it trample some how and as long is its not removed using a enchantment or such you can win in one turn by repeatedly discarding high cost creatures.

Great pressure application card. Like a nantuko husk on steroids.
Zodiac Dragon's text was changed when portal cards were made legal, to avoid this kind of thing.

I love using this with Reya Dawnbringer. Use Volrath to discard her, resurrect her with any suitable spell, start discarding and resurrecting like crazy. I once got a turn 2 win discarding Autochton Wurm to make Vorath 21/19.

An amazing reanimation support card. Unlike Putrid Imp, doing the effect multiple times is actually beneficial.
Putrid Imp is still better, since the effect is free, and the Imp has 1 CMC instead of 6.
That being said, Volrath may win the game for you by himself while Putrid Imp is just solely support. I guess if your opponent let by a 1/1 flyer every time it attacked (and then a 2/2 when you have threshold) then it'd win, but that's a lot less likely than a pump-able 6/4.

One of the best flavor texts ever made! One of the most badass legendary creatures ever made!
Yes, he dies to removal, he is counterable, he doesn't have shroud, evasion, protection from everything, blah, blah, blah... Oh, God, how boring you are!

this + emrakul + chainer = 5 mana drop emrakul with a +1/+1 boost that makes him colorful then you could even throw a vampiric link on volrath and go to town to fuel your nonsense. Lengdary Win... because they're all legends...

A little too weak to just toss into any deck, but it's pretty potent as a combo piece.
One of my favorite characters in the game, right up there with Teferi and Jace. 5/5 Stars

Time to drop those Eldrazi and huge drops. The perfect reanimator/voltron general. And it's always nice to see a legend synergize so well with lands named after him (see Volrath's Stronghold). Can't wait to buy a foil one off my friend and make a new EDH with him.

I've always liked this guy. 6/4 for six isn't too bad in itself, but what obviously takes the cake is relatively unique, and quite kickass and abusable ability. I remember Hypnox being one target back in the days.

He one hits with Draco and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, but works well with any big creature and recur-able necromancy (Phyrexian Reclamation, Revive the Fallen, and appropriately Volrath's Stronghold).
Feed him a Filth with an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth on the field. Shizo, Death's Storehouse works very well with him, as does Rime Transfusion and Dauthi Embrace.
Once you've pumped him up and attacked don't be afraid to Rite of Consumption him.
Turn 1: Swamp + Blood Celebrant
Turn 2: Any other land (Probably Swamp) + Dark Ritual + Culling the Weak (Blood Celebrant) + This (You have 1 extra Mana)
Turn 3: If opponent controls creatures, give fear or Dragon Shadow
Turn 4: Win! (Discard Draco, Autochton Wurm, or Gleemax.)
All Volraths should get Life Alert(R)

Couldn't describe Volrath better myself. What a boss.*
@asandberge
T1: Swamp, Dark Ritual, Priest of Gix, Culling the Weak, Volrath the Fallen.
T2: Land, attack with Volrath, discard Draco/Emrakul, the Aeons Torn/Autochthon Wurm if unblocked (Spinning Darkness/Snuff Out/Slaughter Pact/Gut Shot/Thunderclap/Tidal Bore/Snap/hope they didn't play anything that can block/Pact of Negation/Daze/Mental Misstep/Not of This World/etc.** as necessary), WIN GAME.
* What an evincar.
** Submerge/Mogg Salvage/Fireblast/Ensnare/Massacre/Pulverize/Contagion/Sickening Shoal/Pyrokinesis/Outbreak/Crash/Cave-In/Flameshot/Snapback/Force of Will/Misdirection too, but these all either require a ninth card (T2 on the draw, T3 on the play) and/or are only conditionally useful.
5/5 Stars
