I wish it produced Black instead of 1. Wicked flavor; like Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

Handy card for not having to go though Dredge.

Oh come on people ! this is Volrath's stronghold ! one of the most powerful lands in whole MTG , why the rating is so low ? returning a creature for 2 mana is not good enough ?

Especially useful for fighting against counter spell decks, just keep casting the fatty until it lands :P

Also useful for bringing back Shriekmaw whenever you need it.

Can also save you from a mill deck for quite a long time, and it would be just a bit too useful if it made black. Definitely a good card, no 5/5, but a solid 4.5 for sheer utility.

My wife got me one for Valentine's Day. She knows the way to a man's heart :3 (Its via awesome EDH cards wrapped up in a little bow ^.^)

I love stronghold with korlash. That combo makes corrupt good enough to see some play I think.

Im using this in my zombie counter deck. i stall the game and discard my zombies and counter everything the opponent plays.... but when i hit projenitus being my last card in my library i make sure i have 7 cards in my hand and always discard him .... usually they have nothing and i start stacking my creatures with this back on my library. a big loop .... but after one time through all your spells are in the graveyard unless there is some way to get em out.

You can't be milled with it out: Just activate it on your upkeep, and bring something back. And seriously, you should have about 50 creatures in your gy against mill...

The art looks like a flying saucer shooting a laser beam down.

Great card. Reusable recursion is always powerful, and at 2 mana it is pretty cheap as well. I remember opening one of these in a pack back when stronghold was new. 4.5 / 5

the flavor of this card. granted it seems flavor was way more important than mythics back in the day...

Land - All creature cards in your graveyard gain Dredge 0.

I know that would be 1B and a tap away, but still it seems so wrong. Mana-producing lands almost never get an ability as good as this. If you don't have any land destruction at hand... good luck dealing with that Kokusho every single turn.

Cycle Gempalm Polluter to draw Gempalm Polluter

Most control decks love when their opponent draws land. Not so much with this.

The most evil decks look at this and use it the way a 'traditional' deck uses Boomerang- save their nasty graveyard with a quick 'bounce' to the library, where it's safe from Tormod's Crypt and Relic of Progenitus, then back to the graveyard it goes next turn!

Not a very common move, but if you always play Tormod's Crypt 'just in case', and you see them Volrath's Stronghold in response to your Crypt....I would be very suspicious of their intentions...

Especially if the target was, you know, an Ichorid, or a Golgari Grave-Troll.

No one ever thought about Academy Ruins, the blue version of this card? Those 2 cards are so much powerful that there isn't any comparison... Such amount of recursion gives you a lot of inevitability and card advantage that if the opponent doesn't destroy the land he/she will be in a lot of trouble...!

5/5, almost a must-have in any creature-based black deck...!

Channelblaze, fifty critters in the yard in a sixty card deck would be ridiculous.

perhaps the single best land I own. Volrath's Stronghold gives you a virtually infinite ability to recur a creature, any creature. Short of exile or eliminating Volrath's Stronghold, no creature in my graveyard will stay there if I don't want it to. Used properly as noted in other posts, it protects against some milling stratgys, and combined with comes into play or cycle effects such as Gempalm Polluter or Twisted Abomination you can repeat effects to nightmarish effect.

I can only thank the design team that this is not 1B Tap, return target creature to your hand. The exploitation that 2 mana return a creature would enable would be horrific.

One of my first cards in magic the gathering, I gave it as a present to a friend of mine while I was teaching him magic.
He then went to someone's home to play and he left this one and many other great cards he had there... he never got them back...what an impostor this other guy.

Easy to use. Works will in any deck using black. Too bad it's so expensive and rare!

Why not put x1 in any deck capable of getting some black mana? This land synergies well with most creatures without even trying.

Fun Fact: Volrath was a bit of a prick.
