The fact that it imprints from your library is what makes all the difference. Ri-freakin'-diculous in Limited.

Freakin awesome for soldiers, goblins and vampires. Its like nightmare lash for any mono colors, with no pinch....and even better.

I dunno how likely it is to see play in constructed... with so much equipment with actual significant bonuses (ie. lifelink and deathtouch ^_-), a plain power and toughness boost doesn't seem all that appealing.

In limited though it'll be a fantastic draft pick and a welcome rare. It'll easily be giving +2/+2 when you first equip it, and it scales as the game progresses. But perhaps most importantly, it doesn't just count your lands, so if your opponent is running one of the same colors as you things can get CRAZY.

Fantastic in any mono-coloured deck. Esp when you're suffering from mana swamp :P

Everything that removes basic lands from deck deserves a 5 in my book.

Traded my way to one of these today, gonna put it in my monoblack deck, imagine a night hawk with this... :)
I have used it in a constructed tournament now, it rox! When I equipped it to make my nighthawk an 8/9, you should have seen the opponenet's face ^^. I definitely need 3 more of these, they are simply awesome in a mono deck. Gonna get 4 of these for my infect deck, oh the awesomeness! And it only costs about 2$! Finally some love for us mono tournament players.

Now they just need to bring back Troll Ascetic.

By the time you put this on it, the Sacred Wolf is almost as good as the Troll Ascetic. Troll is much better unequipped though.

Overall best use is probably something like a Vampire Nighthawk. Would also be nasty with infect. With this in play, Overwhelming Stampede is even more game over than usual.

Mono color Mega pump! I got beat buy this in a mono red deck at a tournament. It may not be the greatest equipment card ever, but it still is in the top 20 list for me.

Combos with Stormtide Leviathan, especially in a format that has a lot of lands, like EDH.

I've been having quite a bit of fun strapping this thing on Spikeshot Elder and pinging for 10+ at a time.

This is one of the best equipments I've ever seen, and broken in EDH and other big multiplayer matches.

This card is just plain powerful used on its own in mono-decks, or in combination with other cheap artifacts, such as Basilisk Collar, Infiltrators Lens, or Echo Circlet. Will be a lot of fun to use.

Hmmm . . . so this counts the lands that other players have too . . . and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth just so happens to turn every land in play into a swamp . . .

The most effective combo ever? Nah.
On the other hand, the idea of doing this in a group game still gives me a warm feeling inside.

I really dislike how inelegant this is. Why not just 'choose a basic land type'? How often are you going to name a nonbasic?

"Equipped creature gets +1/+1 for each land on the battlefield with the same name as the exiled card." Cards like Stormtide Leviathan, Prismatic Omen, and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth only change land types, so sadly no combo. Still monstrous in monocolored decks or multiplayer, though.

A fun card, but a heck of an expensive cast and equip cost for something that doesn't give you anything but raw power. Still a neat card though, and still some really good art.

Go ahead and throw this into a deck with Endless Horizons. Come on, you know you want to.

I imagine the sound of it pulling up the earth is like buckling steel? But something about the artwork tells me the material might be different... softer perhaps? Maybe slightly edible? :P

i only realized after a few matches that it adds +1/+1 for each land on the field with the same name meaning ur opponent's as well-.- nice card

@PocoLocoCrow: Well actually the Scythe says same name as the land you exiled. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth makes lands swamp (basic land type), not swamp (card).
@Gabriel422: The above would (probably) be the reason it doesn't just say pick a basic land type, since if it did the above would work, and be ludicrous. (Or Stormtide Leviathan But maybe WOTC was just looking for another excuse for an imprint card.

Either way though, I agree with the sentiment that it's great with infect, although I wish it was 2 to cast instead of 3.

Silly tactic: Sideboard in basic lands that match your opponent's colors

How would this work with say... mono black deck, so you have all swamps.. and cards like Contaminated Ground and Evil Presence?

Ya'know, it'd be REALLY awesome if you people learned how to read. Prismatic Omen, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, do NOT change the card's name, they change the type. Strata Scythe only cares about the NAME, not the TYPE. If I ever saw someone trying to run that combo, I'd probably laugh so hard I'd end up forefitting the game for lack of ability to think clearly.

This card certainly rocks in EDH games. Probably most effectively in a green deck, since it ramps into lands so easily and effectively. I have it in my Kemba deck, and it gets pretty crazy.

Aura Gnarlid.
Today I played these two cards for a 25/25 creature that was virtually unblockable. My friends hate me now.

This curves handily into Solemn Simulacrum. Then again, so do some much more useful pieces of equipment.

If you want to think about this card instead of playing it, there's always something like: Mycosynth Lattice + Master of Etherium + March of the Machines + Mirrorweave. Once again, this is only theoretical. If you try to build a deck like this, have a fun time trying to win. But still, kill all opponents lands (I don't know if Mirrorweave works on CMC, but if it does, then all their permanents) and get +1/+1 for each permanent left. I think.

what endersblade said. this card does NOT have the same effect as dungrove elder, lashwrithe. dungrove elder cares about type, this cares about name. breeding pool is a forest, so dungrove elder counts it, but this would not, it would only count lands literally named "forest"

this means, logically, that if you're using cards that boost based on land type the best way to counteract this card is by running snow lands. unless the person running this artifact specifically exiles a snow land, your lands do not count towards their bonus. lashwrithe treats "swamp" and "snow-covered swamp" identically but this will not.

This can get pretty big in a Green or Blue deck with Quicksilver Fountain and a way to bounce your lands.

Basically equipment version of Blanchwood Armor in a mono-green deck (except it uses all player's lands!)
