this is amazing since u lose a 1/1 counter to put a GREEN sap in play you get the counter right back so basically pay 1 for a sap anyone thinking easy army of saps

This card is so powerful. If you see a guy pull him out in an EDH game as his general, kill him before he creates a swarm of tokens....if you don't then it's too late because the HATE SEED will tear you a new one for sure.

Glad to see people saying they use him in EDH. I was thinking the same thing.

Play Ulasht and oh! Your opponent play a Scout's Warning and a Willow Satyr and a Burst of Speed and there goes your Ulasht.

Anyway great card. : )

Somewhat, this feels weaker than Yavimaya Kavu. Same cost, but does not get modified as you get more creatures onto the battlefield, is a legendary and is limited to your own creatures. If you're getting a great ammount of counters as you play him, you probably were already good ennough to finish the opponent.

aba1: Try reading the card again.

A great card, though. Obviously used in token decks, but it'll put the hurt on an opponent's creature position.

+1 when used against white weenie. An additional +2 if you keep it from being Swords'd or Path'd for the entirety of the game!

This came out in the same block as Doubling Season! Play it, get two counters for each red or black creature, make two tokens for each counter, let it die and play another four times as huge, with a single copy of the enchantment in play.

It's a bit too unstable for my liking. I like how huge it can be, and I like it's versatility, but there is too much chance for it to be small.

Very fun for swarm decks. Not to mention how good it does in its signature guild, what with 2 counters for red/greens and all.

Would like this for Hazezon Tamar EDH. 2 counters per land after Hazy's tokens appear? Yes please!

I like the card (including the art). Sadly it's a bit weak. It should count itself, so it comes basically with two counters into play.
It's best if you can give it persist, like with cauldron of souls. Then you just give it persist each turn, turn all it's counters into creatures, and when it persists back to play it's even larger. ^^

Daikoru, this is much better than Yavimaya Kavu, because:

2/1/2006 Creatures that are both red and green provide two +1/+1 counters.

So if your first 3 turns are Wild Cantor/Scab-Clan Mauler/Burning-Tree Shaman, this guy comes in on turn 4 as a 6/6.

I ran a few of these in a Gruul deck, just so I could drain all the counters into Saprolings and drop another to ping everything.

Gilder Barin says this card is great! This is going into my saproling deck as a backup for Ghave, Guru of Spores because it costs less (mana and money) and potentially comes with more counters.

Fun times with this Hydra Hellion. Get some Boartusk Lieges on the field and his stats will spike in a hurry. And like his good friend Apocalypse Hydra, you should give him Runes of the Deus.

I once had one of these bad boys in the triple digits.

I was in a ten person multiplayer where everybody had a range of 1 and I was playing my 120+ card R/G/B deck I like to call Munchy. I had a doubling season out, dropped a mycoloth nomming 4 creature tokens getting 16 +1/+1 counters. Next turn I made 32 saproling tokens, top-decked and dropped another Doubling Season followed by a 132/132 Ulasht, the Hate Seed. I did not win that game, but it was darn fun.
As a side note, I do not run tutors in that deck and it's MOSTLY singleton spells. To find a single doubling season in it is difficult, finding 2 is just a miracle.

I know the name is weird, but run with 4 Tattermunge Maniacs.

"My turn. I'll play a forth-turn 8/8 now." :P

I think Khalni Hydra likes this, too.

At a first glance this guy is usually given a sub par rating by most players. Yeah sure he doesn't fit into any deck that's red or green, but if you build around him he can be amazing! For commander/edh he can get ridiculous as a general.

Say you run him with dragon broodmother and dragonlair spider, which both generate red and green creature tokens really fast. Say you have 10 tokens from one broodmother on the field. As a general at 4 cmc, he's cheap as hell! And in the aforementioned situation, 10 babies and the mama, he'd hit the field as a 22/22! HOLY SH!T!

Being in red and green, that leaves you with a lot of mana to pull shenanigans with him like giving him haste, trample or doublestrike, or all of them. Not to mention (because I shouldn't need to) stuff like doubling season.

All in all, this guy is cheap (both cmc and actual cost) and loads of fun to play. He gets ridiculous fast, and all it takes is a little building around him. Under appreciated great card 4/5

If you can find anywhere on his body to equip them, Neko-Te works nicely. 1: Tap target creature, it doesn't untap even if Ulasht dies.

I really wanna build this guy's EDH deck, but I already have Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper, and I feel like there'd be too much overlap.

Remove all his counters for Saprolings, then flicker or bounce. Rinse and repeat.

@Ulixes_Pyr

To be fair, Gilder Barin says ALOT of cards are good when they normaly wouldn't. this card is good without Guilder.

For those of you who use it as EDH like I did once, Vigor and Doubling Season (or any counter doubling card) adds a nice synergy. Remove a counter to shoot itself for 2 counters. Damage is never dealt because of vigor's replacement effect and the doubling effect actually means you get more than what you pay for. Now that I think about it Furnace of Rath can be used in combo with vigor, since vigor's ability states it gets a +1/+1 counter for each point of damage dealt, oh happy days (^_^)
