I liked this card over Mogg Fanatic...until I got hit with Contaminated Bonds. Still not bad in RDW though.

I ALWAYS read his name wrong, and indeed as something rather obscene :|

This guy can hit for 4-6+ damage if you drop him on your first turn, thats more than enough damage for you Ram Gangs and burn spells to get a nearly unbeatable advantage. Just what an aggro deck wants. Hes awesome.

Slap Runes of the Deus on this guy.... Watch the madness ensue...that is if you can manage to keep him alive that long......

This card will become a nightmare for the opponents if its casted on turn one. Its reckless attacking however can be quite annoying, one possible solution would be to use static effects to make the maniac stronger, such as Boartusk Liege.

A great first drop in any aggro deck that works great with Jund Hackblade
(edit) Perhaps I should elaborate: This card is really underwhelming. It's not that good. And just about each block we get creatures that overshadow it. Take Rakdos Cackler, which is strictly better as it can be a 1/1 capable of chump blocking, or a 2/2 that you don't have to attack with. Tattermunge Maniac wouldn't be blocking either way, but at least Cackler doesn't have to suicide.
Consider creatures like Vexing Devil who does a lot for just or Goblin Guide, a 2/2 hasty for whose drawback isn't really a drawback. Both creatures do even more for the same cost. Even , a more control-oriented color, has Diregraf Ghoul and Gravecrawler.
Green has plenty of 1-drops it'd rather be using as well, such as Wild Nacatl, Scythe Tiger, or Nettle Sentinel. Maniac will become irrelevant a few turns after he hits the field. In fact, he'll probably be dead.
This creature would be more up-to-par if it were a 2/2 or a 2/1 with haste, but as it is it's mediocre.

@Blackworm_Bloodworm: I'll downvote any person who states "... just about each block we get creatures that overshadow ", and then goes on to compare it to Rakdos Cackler (from the newest set) while wrongly using the term "strictly better". First off, there haven't been a single hybrid red/green 1-drop as good as Tattermunge Maniac since Tattermunge Maniac. Comparing it to Goblin Guide and the like just won't do, because this card has the advantage of being hybrid in a multicolor deck. This is especially relevant if you're running "color matters" cards (Boartusk Liege etc.). Secondly, Rakdos Cackler doesn't have the same colors as Tattermunge Maniac, and therefore isn't "strictly better" - you can't play it with green mana. You want strictly better? Take Walking Corpse and compare it with Spineless Thug or Scathe Zombies. You're even comparing it to Scythe Tiger, which eats your lands while still only being able to trade with this card. And while we're at it, you're forgetting that Tattermunge Maniac has two very relevant creature types, and as such that it will be buffed by any goblin or warrior lord.
I'm kind of hoping that Gatecrash will deliver a better alternative seeing as each guild in RtR got a good uncommon hybrid 1-drop, but until then Tattermunge Maniac remains the best 1-drop hybrid creature that green/red aggro has available. 4.5/5 since May '08.

Wow, adding 1 power to Crazed Goblin and making his mana cost more flexible increased his rating from one star to four. Who could have guessed?
