best part? 0mana cost cards or x cost cards
PhantomdotEXE

I don't get it. At all.

I think PhantomdotEXE is wrong. That's not how this guy works, he just fetches any number of 9cmc cards, not cards with a total of 9 cmc, right?

Yeah, it just gets you cards from your deck with converted mana cost of 9 and having multiple can make a sick combo as well as the fact that it gets you any Bringers that are in your deck. On the same note, it works really well in a 5 color deck because it transmutes into any of the Bringers as well.

This card is great with Sneak Attack, Shifty Doppelganger, Pyromancy, Pandemonium, Where Ancients Tread, Myojin of Life's Web, Living Death and Survival of the Fittest to mention a few.

I play this with That which was taken, and Myojin of Life's Web put a second counter of myojin, pull a counter, play this dude, pull off another counter, then pull all your other 9 cost leviatan's out and you've got 16 leviathans that are all HUGE to stomp. and maybe another myojin. Who said leviathan decks suck? Don't forget your Crucible of Worlds to soften the blow of land sacing.

Quest For Ula's Temple has single-handedly made this card fun to use. Drop it turn 4-5, tutor up three more and a couple Inkwell Leviathans. You should be set up for the rest of the game.

.....HAHAHA oh wow...it says "any number of CARDS WITH CONVERTED MANA COST 9". That's ANY CARD, not just creatures.

That made my day.

Sorry, Thaviel, it isn't "with a total of 9 cmc."
And Meister, why in the WORLD would you feel sorry for him? This card may take quite a bit of effort to get to work, but if you get it to work, it's great. There are plenty of 9 mana cards (surprisingly---I looked them up, they're there), plenty of ways to get 9 lands out (you're running blue---just counter everything dangerous, capsize everything they get out, and wait), or sneak this guy out (Quest for Ula's Temple). And chances are, if you have a way to sneak him out, you can sneak whatever he fetches out, too.

Hehe. Once in my town at Ravnica time there had been a sale of boosters from the onslaught block. My little brother (Ravnica), my friend (Onslaught) and I (Scourge) bought each one pack of the mentioned expansion.
I pulled out a Sliver Overlord and was happy. My friend got a foil Visara and nearly cracked up. My brother opened his pack and saw his ugly Grozoth. Very funny but I feel a bit sorry for him.^^

Edit: UltimaCenturion, you're right. Grozoth isn't that bad but in comparision to Visara (foil!) and the Overlord it's a bit unprivileged.

Honestly, if it have been 8 for everything, instead of 9, this card would be a heck of alot better... as it is, it seems really clunky to me.

I know a lot of people like it, but I'm really not a big fan of this card. 3/5

Once, one of my friends opened a foil Grozoth. Immediately after, we met a guy that hated Grozoth with a passion, and he bowed to get and destroy every Grozoth he saw. Then, he more or less forced my friend to trade the Grozoth to him, and he immediately ripped it apart. It now rests in pieces in the central spot of a binder page full of Grozoths.

Use Jhoira of the Ghitu to suspend this and as many other cards as you can at the same time. Now they all come into play at the same time to make maximum use of Dragonstorm. Will probably never happen outside of EDH, but in EDH it's really not that unlikely. It even has a backup plan: if you don't get this, you can cheat out your dragons with Jhoira.

YES! FINALLY! THAT 9 CMC DECK I ALWAYS DREAMED OF CAN COME TO FRUITION!

EDIT: wait wait wait wait ... no one has done this yet?

This is one of those cards that would have made Flash a beat of a card even if that Protean Hulk thing didn't exist.

See also Shallow Grave, which would let you overfill your hand with beastly Reanimator targets.

Comes-into-play abilities rock.

So, it is not Grozoth, but a grozoth? Weird semantics. I guess you can find 3 more of it once you play it...

Scragnoth always tries to negate my thoughts about it by redirecting me to this card, the clever bastadge.

Don't get me wrong, I like this guy. But why would you ever transmute him? Why discard him to get one 9cmc card when you can play him and get all the 9cmc cards?

Unless you're planning to reanimate him, I suppose. But then you're playing black, which means you've got a plethora of better ways to get him graveside, seeing as how he'll hit the battlefield anyway and it won't matter what you fetched with the transmute.

I always wondered why they even printed this guy, he has no in block interactions other than Blazing Archon and Nullstone Gargoyle. But then I realised that Dragonstorm was reintroduced into standard directly after in Time Spiral. Sneaky sneaky Wizards with a subtle 3 mana tutor for the win condition of ravnica-time spiral standard.

Squadron 'Zoth. When I play this in Crosis, the Reanimator EDH, I always Transmute this guy for Artisan of Kozilek, cast Artisan recurring this guy, and grab Inkwell Leviathan, Plague Wind, and Furnace Dragon. 1 card becoming 5 cards for a mere {10UU}. Very doable in my EDH.
ArdentDawn
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@MisterAction: Or you Transmute for the colourless Artisan of Kozilek earlier in the game and get an additional 10/9 body with Annihilator 2 for your initial 9 mana.

Can you use this to draw say 4 lands and some cards that dd up to 9CMC?
Arachnos

@draco_nite: It's even the appropriate color. Shame it's not a Snow permanent. Or a Faerie card, for that matter.

She runs a deck with 9 of those in it, because she's awesome (or stupid) enough to ignore the 4 permanents a deck rule.

When I cast him from my 5-color deck, I usually refer to him as the Bringer of Bringers.

A 9-mana transmuter... that lets you search out 9-drops if you play it. This thing is like an idea you sarcastically joke about!
