Seems overpowered almost, you can make any of your other creatures indestructible by giving them divinity counters, or you can replace divinity counters on myojins.. dang..

Well, I'm not one to know much about kamigawa, so I'm just throwing this out there. This relates to the Myojin's which have "divinity" counters. That which was taken, refers to the divinity counter removed from the myojin. The myojin lost its divinity. And I love how they do this, it's like, a puzzle in a sense with kamigawa, everything can be paired with soemthing. This card is paired with the myojins

Actually what this is, is the daughter of the lord of all kamis in kamigawa's spirit world. lord Konda (not sure if i spelled that right) stole her for powers and for other reasons i forgot at the moment. This enraged the kami lord and thus started the war between the kami/spiritual world against the material/physical world. (kinda like the story of troy, with the war being started over the theft of the woman). The divinity counters are probably supposed to be the power that the daughter of (i think the kami lord's name was) O-kagachi (i read the kamigawa books like...3 years ago, so im not too sharp with this at the moment). and if you notice konda is also indestructible (see the link now?). So the divinity counters are just the power that it grants and that lord konda seeked from it (as he kept it contained like this).

XD It's not overpowered because it itself can't become indestructible by its own means. It does work well with the Myojin but story-wise has very little to do with them. I stopped playing once Ravinca was released and I remember having this card. I'm trying to find it but I'm not having any luck. I have a spot in my card books left open specifically for it, right under Final Judgment because that's the only card with the O-Kagachi, its mother, printed on it.
If they dont have a way to sacrifice it grin evily

Well, it can make itself indestructable with... Giant Fan!
Or, if you want to avoid the silver borders, you could animate it and use Fate Transfer.

I love all the flavor comments here.
But seriously, run this, and enchant it with Indestructability. Then laugh when you put a Divinity counter on it.

This wasn't in Relics. I will be VERY surprised if it's not in From the Vault: Legends. I mean, come on- Kami-frigging-gawa? That block where everyone and his dog was a legendary creature? And this, the most Legendary (block novel star, anyway) card from the block? And it has an epic power on top of that.
No, I'm sorry, no. I will stop respecting Wizards a lot if they don't realize this needs to be in From the Vault: Legends. Unfortunately, some sadly unimpressive spoilers so far (why Rafiq? why Sharrum? why Kresh?) Prog. is ok. He was a shoe-in, whether you liked him or not. Teferi represents for Time Spiral.
so, far, counting all the spoilers, plus assuming That Which Was Taken makes it, I'm count three cards I'm excited for, three that I don't know why they're even in the set. Kikki Jikki at least has fans, even if I'm not one of them. Sun Quan was not the P3K card we were looking for, but he's alright too. Doran is the third off-beat legend that I might have liked in the set if he weren't one of the 'best' in what looks like its gonna the biggest 'failed the hype' in Magic ever.
That makes a total of: 3 cards that really are Mythic Legends (Teferi, TWWT, Progenitus) 3 cards that will be cool to get in foil (Doran, Kikki Jikki, Sun Quan) 3 cards that will therefore have the alternate arts wasted on them (Rafiq, Kresh, Rafiq) and 6 unknown cards, probably from Homelands if Wizards keep up the pattern. If Malfegor is in, you will actually be better off getting Alara block Booster Boxes than FTV: Legends. which is just...ugh...unfortunately, Malfegor is a Demon Dragon, and actually kind of likely.

Protect it with Aegis Angel, then protect the angel with this.
In response to RKD2222's comment asking if this could be used on a planeswalker: since the card text says 'permanent' and doesn't specify what type of permanent you can put the counter on, until the card's rulings are updated, if you decide to use a divinity counter on it, then it would be indestructible. In Mark Rosewater's article, "Planeswalker Rules," he wrote that: "Any spell or ability that affects a permanent (for example, "destroy target permanent") can affect a planeswalker. Note that planeswalkers aren't creatures; if a card says it affects a creature, it won't affect a planeswalker."
In addition to that, regarding permanents in general with the counter on them, I think it is fair to say That Which Was Taken really isn't OP because there are still plenty of ways to "get rid of" the permanent that has a divinity counter on it--for example exile or remove x amount of counters off of all permanents. Any spell that targets permanents except for cards that says "destroy target permanent" would affect it. If I am mistaken, please do correct me.
Personally, I love this card, in spite of how easily a person can find a way to "get rid of" a permanent, or destroy/remove the artifact itself. When I'm facing a deck that lacks the cards to destroy artifacts, subtract toughness from a creature (if the counter is on a creature) remove permanents from the game, etc, I have a better chance of winning; if I get the artifact out fast enough and put a counter on a permanent that is crucial to not lose, then it still can hinder the opponent for a decent amount of turns before they destroy it.

Awesome name. Awesome artwork. Terrible card.
How did this get a 4 Star rating? That's way too much. If cards were to be rated by name, I would rate this 6/5.
But 4/5 for design? Definitely not: You'll have to pay the first time to make a permanent indestructible while this is in play. And your opponent can still exile it, bounce it, flicker it, etc.
For that amount of mana, you could have cast two bigger threats instead of inreliably trying to protect something else.
(I remember thinking highly of this card when I started playing, so maybe it has something to do with the fact that new casual players tend to get mislead by the concept behind it.)
It should in the very least not be possible for your opponent to shatter TWWT. We have Darksteel Plate for creatures these days, which offers just that and costs you half as much mana.

Konda's reason for stealing That Which Was Taken was because he felt that after spending his entire lifetime building a prosperous empire that it was unfair to lose it to old age. So he performed a ritual to steal this from the spirit world. It's implied in the books that it's literally the spirit of the impossible; a Kami that represents everything beyond the bounds of reality. Which would also make it the Kami of Kami in a roundabout sort of way. That's why, alongside the whole stealing a god thing, Konda possessing it was such an abomination. Konda possessing it was him declaring dominion over the Kami themselves and upsetting the natural order. It's also why (SPOILERS) it was able to defeat O-Kagachi, the Kami of All Things when released thus saving the realm. (END SPOILERS) With it, Konda hoped to master both the real and immaterial, life and death, spirit and mundane and create an everlasting empire that would never die.
Or at least that might have been his original intention. It becomes pretty clear that his obsession with is rather unhealthy when he spends twenty odd years locked away in a tower with it just to make sure he can always be near the thing. He seems to treasure it much more than his daughter Michiko too. Also, when Toshiro Umezawa confronts him in his throne room and makes off with it he quickly degrades from a badass, immortal samurai emperor to a terrified old man desperate to get back the only thing keeping death at bay for him as soon as possible.
