ultratog1028;
The game state treats it as dividing by zero and the universe ends from an instant being put into play.

400.4a If an instant or sorcery card would enter the battlefield, it remains in its previous zone.

Used to use this to get my second Seasinger. That really did upset people.

"mask of the mimic a clone copying an illusion token and put illusion into play. what happens?" -ultratog1028

Clone is usually a copy of something else when it's in play, if it's copying a creature you control that isn't a token you can search out that creature, not a clone. If you somehow happen to have a clone in play that isn't copying something, you could search out another clone to either copy something in play or just become a 0/0 creature with static buffs from things like Glorious Anthem.

Nonetheless, you aren't required to find anything and put it into play, nor can you target a token, and clone when in play copying a creature is an exact copy of that creature, including name/power/toughness/color/abilities/mana cost/types and is not seen as a clone.

How does this work in combination with a phase down morphling?
If you search for the copy of a face down card, are you then allowed to find the copy of the morphling?

@Lord_Sauron; No, facedown creatures are called "facedown creature #1" etc. and you would be searching your library for a card with the same name. Got any creatures with that name? no? then you need to proxy some fake cards to freak out your opponents.

Note: the card you are searching for doesn't have to be a creature card. So if you target that Unhinged creature that can change his name, you could put any permanent card you want into play (as long as it's in your library).

one of my favourite cards, its kind of like a creature tinker, only nowhere near as good, but stil pretty good, wanted to build a deck that has two copies of every creature in it and four of these but only managed to get my hand on one copy :(

kokusho should be one of the first cards that comes to mind....
then secound sunrise for a 4 mana win?

anyways 1 mana blue instant, count me in.

Use with creatures that say "When this creature comes into play (something bad happens to your opponent)

Seems like it would be good to get more copies of cards that bring friends, such as Myr Battlesphere.

Mask of the Mimic targeting Child of Alara. GG.

Also fun: Mimic your Sundering Titan.

If you do both in the same game, you get an emblem with "Stare at target player: force that player to concede."

One of my favorite ways to put out an early phyrexian dreadnought.

Does the target have to be in play because it just says target creature and not Target Creature in play? Im Thinking like Play a bird the play Mask of the Mimic and then with no creatures in play call Harbor Serpant? Then search my deck for Harbor Serpent then put it into play as the only creature on my side?

Can I do that or will the spell fizzle because it has not target creatures inplay?

please let me know!!!!!

@roguepariah: Nice. I had always misread this card as having to find a copy of the sacrificed creature, not any creature in play. I now have to completely reevaluate this card.
...
Reevaluation complete: This card is awesome. Play it with any enters-the-battlefield token generator for great justice. Not only that, but you can use it to dodge a kill spell if you have another decent creatures out (or if your opponent controls a creature that you also run in your deck, like in the mirror-match). Also, Radiate. It's like Doubling Chant, only more awesome because it's eccentric.

Turn your disposable first-turn critter into a second Phyrexian Dreadnought in response to the first's enters-the-battlefield trigger!
Bypass the annoying additional cost to cast to get a second Skaab Ruinator!
Turn your no-longer-relevant-in-the-late-game Birds of Paradise into a second...uh...Nacatl War-Pride!
Turn Eldrazi-Spawn generators into even MORE Eldrazi-Spawn (great with Beastmaster Ascension)!
Turn your single 3/3 Geist-Honored Monk and its two 1/1 Spirits into two 5/5 Geist-Honored Monks and three 1/1 Spirits!
Get your second Myr Retriever!
...Or a second Kokusho, the Evening Star...

So basically you can summon a second Phyrexian Dreadnought and sac one of them to feed the other one?

This is a true sleeper card. Why doesn't it see insane amounts of play?

1) Works great with Undying (ex. Relentless Skaabs Flayer of the Hatebound)

2) 'Saves' any creature in combat by 'flickering' the creature with a copy.

3) Fills your graveyard for Dredge and Threshold (ex. Life from the LoamNecroplsam Cephalid Coliseum Bloodghast

4) Fuels 'comes into play' effect creatures at Instant speed. Trinket Mage

5) Shuffles your library

6) Works well in an Abyssal Persecutor if you choose to not find his copy (assuming the opponent is dead)

7) Can be imprinted on Isochron Scepter

8) Synergizes with enchantments that abuse ETB effects, especially with Undying: Warstorm Surge

Yet another commander staple. Wait...

A relatively confusing rule is that you can't use this to copy the creature that you sacrifice, even if you sac an undying/persist creature. The creature comes back before this resolves, but since you have to chose the target when you put this on the stack, the creature you sacced isn't a legal target.

This card's main drawback is that you absolutely must have 2 creatures on the field when you cast it. No way around that (not even flashing a creature into play). That said, since this is an instant, one of those creatures could be about to die (say to doom blade or evoke). Just hope your opponent doesnt have a kill spell ready for your other creature.

Or... cascade into it with Shardless Agent and get a free extra creature.
