Interesting card. In the current standard meta, with so many mirror matches, this might just see some sideboard action. Just don't know...

Might be a good way to speed up a combo or get out another win-con. I keep finding myself wishing it wasn't worthless in EDH...

Probably the only good Blue Sorcery in Beseiged. I can't wait for this block to be done and over with...

Not that great. Jace-kill if your in the U/X control mirror, so a possible sideboard card.

Not to be overlooked is that this is blue mana ramp if you don't find anything more useful to do with what you dig up.

Have Red Myr in your Hand? and draw up another? Cast it!
Have a Lux Cannon? Find a lux cannon? Cast it!
When all else fails you'll probably still be able to get a land out of it.

If I understand this card right.

I get 7 cards if one of those cards is the same as a permanent on the battlefield I can cast it for free. Correct?

At worst can be sorcery speed mana acceleration in mono blue, at best you can reveal another bomb, (such as a second Baneslayer Angel in {UW}) Sadly it's downfall (and sometimes potential benefit) is the legendary rule.

Useful anytime 2 of something are much better than 1. For example:
A second Myr Galvanizer or mana Myr to complete the engine.
Another Knight Exemplar to complete the pair.

W/U Knight seems to have potential with this, Clone, and Cryptoplasm.

You might not get the card you're looking for, but if not, you are 7 cards closer to finding it and at the least should be able to put a land into play.

@ Craziecory yup, that's right. Lands, planeswalkers, yours, your opponent's, your teamates, primeval titan or chimney imp, whatever as long as someone's already got one.

This card would seem to have about a thousand uses. In Standard, I could see it being a great piece in an allies deck, a way to fetch another Trinket Mage along with an artifact, grabbing a fetchland for a couple of landfalls, etc. Solid.

top 7 is nice. can get a decent creature OR as has been mentioned, at the very least blue mana ramp. one of my fave blue cards in this set.

The only good blue sorcery in MBS? You do realize that there's only THREE? Distant Memories is a Diabolic Tutor at worst and a Concentrate at best. And Vivisection goes nicely with the sacrifice theme. Its a pretty bad card in a vacuum but one that works nicely in the set.

Anyway, Mitotic Manipulation here looks pretty intriguing. I'd really be interested to see if this makes the cut in any competitive deck. Maybe some new, creature-based thing like allies or a knights deck along with other copier guys to effectively run multiple copies of Knight Exemplar, as stated above.

Looks like Jace removal to me.

I'm wondering how this would work with clone. As I understand it, clone, being a copy of whatever creature, would, for the purposes of mitotic manipulation, be treated as if it's name was whatever it cloned, so a clone dragged up by mitotic manipulation would be useless. That sucks, and I believe it to be true, but I'd love to be corrected. Anyone?

I love this card for its plethora of uses.

1. Blue mana acceleration. You're paying 2 mana for an extra land (as it comes in untapped), which can help power out sphinxes/sea monsters or give you extra mana for counterspells. Even though people say that this is the "worst case scenario", getting an extra land in blue is definitely worth the casting cost.
2. Combo completer. It's been mentioned previously, but this card may net you an extra Myr Galvanizer or similar combo piece to get the ball rolling. In addition, if any of your combo pieces are particularly fragile, getting another one as insurance never hurts. Again, this is definitely worth the casting cost.
3. Win-moar. Probably the most obvious use of this card is to get another fatty to end the game quickly. I don't know about you guys, but I think two fatties are better than one (I'm looking at you, Consecrated Sphinx).
4. Unhinged nonsense. Play a _____, then go get whatever freaking card you want.

So yeah, 5/5, if only because nearly any blue deck can benefit from this.

So has anybody noticed the wording "You may put one of those cards onto the battlefield if it has the same name as a permanent."

Doesn't actually say it has to be a permanent already on the field... ho ho ho.

@Fenizrael - what on earth are you talking about? If the card in your top 7 has the same name as a permanent, then obviously it does have to be a permanent already on the battlefield, as otherwise it's a permanent card or spell. Or are you trying to insinuate something else that I've missed?

In any case, 3 mana to duplicate something in blue isn't too bad at all. My mate runs it in a budget mono blue theft deck as mana ramp - a 3 mana Nature's Lore for an island isn't terrible when it's in a color that can rarely ever do that. And with a little library manipulation you can get some boss duplications with it.

@ Fenizrael:

Rule 110.1. A permanent is a card or token on the battlefield. A permanent remains on the battlefield
indefinitely. A card or token becomes a permanent as it enters the battlefield and it stops being a
permanent as it‘s moved to another zone by an effect or rule.

So it does have to already be on the battlefield.

@craziecory

Almost, but it doesnt cast the card it puts it onto the battlefield, so your opponent can't counter the newly cast spell.

The fact that it is practically a blue Untamed Wilds in the right deck is kind of interesting.

This effect in blue is really really powerful. You can even take a land for mana acceleration, which in blue is really slow.

Anything that allows for blue mana ramp is fine by me.
Every other use is just the icing on the cake. I know why I'm packing this thing.

Fantastic if you’re looking to multiply a dangerous permanent you already have in play; cheap enough casting cost to feel good about multiplying pretty much anything you have in play, lol.

I choose, I choose, Island!!!

Blue has some crazy rampant growths O.o
Mode
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
It reminds me a bit of Mask of the Mimic.
Downside: Costs 1Blue more. Only top seven cards. Sorcery speed.
Upside: No additional sacrifice cost. Untargeted.

Those two upsides make quite a difference,
since that makes it far less risky to play since it can't fizzle as easily as Mask of the Mimic.
Depending on your manabase, you'll usually get at least an Island.

This might also be an interesting choice in decks that really want you to cast as many Instants/Sorceries as possible:
Even if you put something below a 3cc permanent into play, plenty of (Izzed-aligned) creatures will be happy about that: Blistercoil Weird, Kiln Fiend, Young Pyromancer, Guttersnipe, Wee Dragonauts, Spellheart Chimera, Gelectrode, Talrand, Sky Summoner and of course Melek, Izzet Paragon himself.

"They can't even comprehend nature. How could they improve it?"

Is this saying: "They can't even comprehend nature. How could they (hope to) improve it?"

Or: "They can't even comprehend nature. How (did they manage to) improve it?"

@Lief098

Mitotic Manipulation isn't necessarily a win-more card when used with fatties. Just because you have your Frost Titan or something out doesn't mean that you are winning. After all, maybe your opponent has a Grave Titan out. Using this card and fetching another Frost Titan could tip the scales in your favor.
