I could maybe see this splashed into some sort of Soul Sisters build, maybe.

Personally, I like it because there are a lot of cheap lifegain effects. Turn four you can follow up a Rest for the Weary with this and have a 10/10.

nourishing shoal + big creature like worldspine worm on turn 2 play this guy and bam 16/16. You could give it haste too and it would pretty cool.

Too bad green's not big on lifegain these days. You could follow a Pelakka Wurm with it.

This is INSANE with all the lifegain this set has, plus things like extort. Play your cards right and you have a better deal than even Tarmogoyf.

This card is an early bear or a potential late game beater.

It doesn't seem standard worthy, but a fine card nonetheless.

...+ Heroe's Reunion = 2GGW, 7 life and a 9/9. :)

Someone's going to figure out how to make this work.

You can always build a better bear. Having this guy at uncommon is somewhat silly though; he seems more like a rare to me.

I know people don't like pure lifegain, but this guy could definitely make it worthwhile to run some. Even healing salve would make him a 3-drop 5/5, which would definitely be a threat worth answering.

If I extort him, does he get counters, or do I gain life after he's already on the board?

If you were to Momentous Fall say a Terra Stomper, this could be a cheap replacement. You'd already have six mana for the stomper, then sac it for four, draw 8 cards, gain 8 life, and with the remaining two mana, cast this little guy. Now he's a 10/10 and this was pulled off in mono green. Just some food for thought.

I love this guy. He has "fun" written all over him.

In Junk, he goes very nicely with Sunspring Expedition. It's nice to be able to pop it for free whenever you like, drop him down as a 10/10, and immediately put a Dying Wish on him. Or, if you wanna keep it GW, Murder Investigation. Not exactly going to make waves in a tournament, but fun and scary in casual.

During prerelease, I played Elixir of Immortality and activated it to give me 5 extra life. I was all like, "YEAH!" Then I played this. And then I was all like, "Hell yeah!" And then my opponent countered it.

You can cast Congregate before this with just 3 creatures on the battlefield to get an 8/8 wurm for 6 mana. And that's just a basic, in-set combo.

Chancellor of the Tangle, Nourishing Shoal, Forest, this guy

T1 9/9, plus you have 7 extra life for your troubles, at the cost of 2 extra cards.

-turn 1- temple garden, elvish mystic
-turn 2- forest, brindle boar
-turn3- forest, heroe's reunion, sac boar, 13/13 voracious wurm...
-turn 4- *swings wurm.. gets chump blocked. ...Predator's Rapport, 28/28 voracious wurm
-giggles as he gains life, and makes his opponent blow all the removal on wurms, as he gets ready to play a rhox faithmender and sanguine bond.

Kind of like a reverse Ajani's Pridemate, this is a decent creature. I don't think it'll see much competitive play, though.

Since you need to play another spell or activated another ability beforehand, it adds to the line of things to do that can (and will) be stopped. It's like you're playing a combo deck. If someone counters one of the three spells you need to play to win, then the whole plan fails.

Ajani's Pridemate, on the other hand, could be played as is doesn't require a spell to be played immediately beforehand. It is true that playing Soul Warden before it is a good idea, but it's not required to make it good. You could play Pridemate, then play Kitchen Finks.

Also, as others have mentioned, it's not White. You'd have to splash Green in your Soul Sisters deck to play this. Although you can play Essence Warden, Martyr of Sands would get chumped (mind you, Martyr would do wonders with this...).

Turn 1: Elvish Mystic
Turn 2: Brindle Boar
Turn 3: Sac Brindle Boar, cast Hero's Reunion, then cast a 13/13 Voracious Wurm
Turn 4: Cast Enlarge on the Wurm and swing with a 20/20 trampler and REALLY hope they dont have removal.

This + only 5 other creatures, including a single Rhox Faithmender + Well + Strionic Resonator = a 42/42 critter for a grand total of 4 mana.

Okay, it's a little fantasy combo-ish, but I do like playing the game of how big I can make the Wurm.

I want to run this with Trained Caracal and pumps or an aura of some kind.... janky, but would be fun :)

Trading Post gets a 6/6. Brindle Boar, 6/6. I like it.
edit: Run this in a Dredge deck with Gnaw to the Bone.

I found the trickiest thing in constructing a lifegain deck was being able to keep offensive pressure on the opponent while still gaining a meaningful amount of life to protect myself. While I certainly wouldn't want to rely on this guy for my win condition, he generally helps fill out that offensive role quite nicely, and as a bonus he occasionally hits the field as a 9/9 on turn 3 or a 16/16 on turn 5. I don't know if he'll be as potentially useful late game once Rhox Faithmender rotates out, but even without those combos he still seems pretty solid and fun to play.

I used Congregate with this card in a 3 way free for all. My opponent had just summoned Howl of the Night Pack, so I gained 24 health (12 creatures) and my wurm became a 26/26. Not to mention I cast indestructibility. This card has won me the game or scared my opponents in about 2/3 of my wins. Even if I just gain 5 life, its still a 7/7. If I was playing with an evolve deck, it might even be a 7/7 with flying or trample

5/5 for this card if used in the right deck of course. Heroes Reunion+this Predator's Rapport = an easy 25 hp and a 27/27 creature. If only it had trample lol.

I'm amazed to see that this card is debuting in the M14 Core Set, the design just feels too good for it to have not been used already.

I love this card because it can be a significant play at any point in the game.

Early game? Tap your Soulmender and drop this guy as a 3/3 on turn 2.

Mid game? Bust up your opponent's stuff with a Solemn Offering and get yourself a 6/6.

Late game? Roll off of an Alive // Well and watch your 2/2 hit the field as a 12/12.

The applications are endless, and this little wurm can quickly find friends in the M14 Core Set. Angelic Accord, Archangel of Thune, Path of Bravery, and Brindle Boar all say hi!

In the right deck, it makes for some silliness. I dropped it as an 18/18 the other day from a Congregate . Yes, opponent resigned.

Non-rush, cast Predator's Rapport on a big beefy, then bring this guy in for some late-game panic.

Combine with the new Ajani's ultimate from Journey into Nyx, you get a 102/102. I see bant midrange making a comeback.
