Should've been "Discard a card, then draw a card" or cost 1R or... SOMETHING that doesn't completely suck. :/

Wow. Wow. wow... wow. Can he at least have 2 power?

Well... they're trying at least. But this is still garbage and if they keep making cards like this Red will simply never bother. Think of it this way: You are spending three mana to get a 1/1 that, IF he survives the turn, will allow you to discard a card (-1) to draw a card (+1). Even in Limited this guy will be a very low pick simply because it just doesn't do enough fast enough. Truly, I would have loved to have seen it at 1R or even RR, but at this cost it's little better than Mad Prophet, another looting card no one plays.

For Christ's sake!

If you're going to transfer looting from blue to red, don't also make it worse! This guy should cost {1}{R}, like his blue forebears Merfolk Looter and Thought Courier.
I know its not EXACTLY the same effect, but come on, the difference is miniscule AND actually makes it slightly worse (if this ability is countered, you still lose a card).

Mad Prophet was actually a fine card in limited. I don't expect Rummaging Goblin to be a low pick since it is the only looter in M13 and is one of the better red commons.

@Atali Unfortunately wizards was very clear that, despite appearances, they were not transfering loooting to Red. MaRo went quite far out of his way in one of his articles to say that they simply weren't doing that and we'd be able to tell because red woud have the effect by 'reckless' and 'inefficient'. So it's completely different

Hey, I'm all for red looters, even if they're not great. And this is totally limited playable.

This goes great with Squee, especially since they're both goblins.

Points for being a goblin, but there are other red draw spells that do it much better, and in standard.

The entire reason he is a crap body was that he was supposed to be a sacrifice if someone used spot removal in standard.

This card did amazing things at the 2013 standard tournament. You really don't want to waste removal on him and if you don't he'll give amazing momentum to folks, after a while you just DON'T need lands and he turns every land draw into another card potentially...

Not everything is designed for modern or for some generic archetype that everyone runs thinking they are clever.

This goblin gets you the cards you need especially if you are a pro like me and know which cards to discard.

you guys are really over looking the fact that it's fantastic for goblin tribal. especially when you want to draw out to get to that tar pitcher or goblin grenade and toss this retard anyway. also, like c0d3br34k3r ssaid, use with Squee.

I think your all forgetting the important thing about this little guy-he's a goblin. He's let's goblin players have a loot/draw card that's also a potential soldier, given some buffs from a Goblin Chieftain or goblin caves. He also works well with Krenko, Mob Boss, the Goblin MacDaddy from the same set.

It's a start. I definitely hope red's looters get lower in mana cost, and even that the discarding of a card is removed from the cost (e.g., "{T}: Discard a card, draw a card" instead of this so that it works with empty hands more like red's Wheel of Fortune effects do. But even if that never happens, I will easily take worse-than-blue draw over nothing, as "just splash blue" is not always the solution for casual players - especially Commander ones who are forced by the color identity rule to their commander's colors and may not wish to change commanders to add blue card draw. After all, red looting is still mostly better than white's card draw!

The biggest thing about looters is they help you dig through the bad stuff in the mid-late game. You drop the chaff and get something else. This is extremely helpful for newer players especially because it helps deal with the problems of mana-screw in either direction.

Too little mana in the deck? Pitch one of those cards you can't cast!
Too much? Get rid of that nasty land for a nice usable card :)

Whenever you use this ability; you feel good; even if you drew another unusable card; because you know that you were another turn in the hole without this ability!

Rummaging Goblin + Squee, Goblin Nabob = maxed out Archivist. Also works well w/ anger. The card isn't as bad as you'd first think it is. Also, where the colon is actually makes for extremely good synergy with Rings of Brighthearth and Illusionist's Bracers.

That being said, this card is only really playable in limited and some EDH decks that have little card filtering. I play this in my Krenko EDH deck just because it's essentially a token spawner and a way to filter and put anger directly into my graveyard. I could also see people playing this if someone is trying to pull off graveyard shenanigans, but even then, why are you playing red? He essentially gives each card in your hand Cycling 0. It's body may be weak but, it's effect is mostly upside even if you aren't activating it every turn. If you discard something that's ok, nothing spectacular, and get something even worse, you can cycle the crappy card you got out of it and just keep getting deeper in the deck and eventually get value out of it. You don't really want this type of guy in multiples but if you do have him in multiples you can just discard him to draw a potentially better card.

I was waiting so long for:

Goblin Looter 1Red
Tap, Discard a card: Draw a Card
1/1

I know it is still good for 2Red, but I've been envious of the merfolk for too long. It is unsatisfying at this cost.
