The main problem with Dromar is 3/5 of your color options bounces Dromar as well.

owns token decks, which are often green or red, and usually not flying

I agree with the token deck comments, but I see this cards major downside is against White Weenie decks, it would be awesome to bounce all their 1/1 fliers and then hitting them with 6 dmg. Has potential for all you Johnnies out there, could see some crazy good combos for this + small black/blue effect monsters.

I agree with Etregan about the drawback of possibly bouncing himself as well. But this guy is still great stuff!

The ability is optional, and if you can bounce a whole horde of creatures back to owner's hand (or a single dangerous one), I think it's still worth it, especially since you can recast the turn it attacks/bounce, and do it again the next turn. 6 damage each turn and your opponent won't be able to keep his creatures on the board.

So you cheated your Progenitus into play using Elvish Piper?
I choose Green.

For all of blues drakes there is a very startling lack of dragons. I always thought of dragons as the more intellectual type, not just the fiery doom type Magic portrays them to be.

Since when is bouncing Dromar a bad thing? Look at his colors: Blue, White and Black. All three of those colors have excellent "enters the battlefield" effects and You could swing with Dromar, bounce your stuff, and use a wrath effect.

If your opponent isn't in the color you named, you just whiped your opponent's field and kept your bomb.

Though he is the worst of the Allied Primevals.

I think dromar is pretty good, the bounce isnt so bad, dromar is in blue, which has many cards that change colors, and there are the wisp cycle, so their are ways to save things

I'm not sure why everyone seems to be hating on Dromar. I use him as one of my EDH generals and he is utterly fantastic. Once he gets through, if you decide on doing anything other than green or red, he just bounces back to your hand and you recast him since you don't have to play the extra mana because he wasn't in your command zone. Plus it is just hilarious because I like to use him against a casual group of my friends, all three of which use green...

I think bounce "all creatures" rather than "all creatures that player controls" must have been an oversight in design. I mean on a 3 color card that costs 6, you basically have to build around this for it to be any good against anything other than {G{R}. Boucing your own creature is just a huge tempo sink.

K, I cast it, wait a turn for you to respond, then swing, bounce my own guy for 3 mana, then of course I can't cast it because I'm not on 9 mana, so I have to wait another turn to replay it, then another to swing. You're only going to be able to bounce 1/3 turns, spending virtually all of your mana, even if your opponent has absolutely nothing to kill it. Oros, the Avenger makes this guy look like a joke. It had to have been a mistake. 1/5

@ultratog1028: I didn't even think of that. Brilliant!

@Justice1337: Here's another way of looking at it. If you're running Dromar at all, it would probably be as a finisher in a highly defensive WUB control deck, so you probably wouldn't want to cast him until you had about 8 or 9 mana anyway. Even if you end up bouncing him along with all of your opponent's creatures, at least you don't have to worry about retaliation on the next turn because all of your opponent's recast creatures will have summoning sickness. Let's say your opponent has a horde of white, blue, or black creatures that will kill you next turn. Even if you have to bounce Dromar, at least you won't die next turn, and you'll have a chance to recast him as a blocker before your opponent has a chance to kill you on the turn after that. That could potentially set your opponent back two turns and allow you to deal the death blow the second time you attack with dromar.

Anyway, I like this card. It makes the game interesting and it makes you think. I guess it's the Timmy in me saying this :).

Just use Distorting Lens to make sure you don't bounce him if you don't want to. Or even Sway of Illusion for a total blowout. Or Scuttlemutt since he's not going to be affected by the bounce no matter what colour you pick. Or Govern the Guildless' forecast.

Failing that, there are many "single use" options out there, instants mostly, that'll be helpful if you're willing to clog your deck with conditional-use cards. Or even creatures that might get bounced on occasion.

Chances are though, if you connect with Dromar, you will bounce much more than 6CMC worth of creatures back to your opponents' hands. Even if you do choose black, white, or blue if you built the deck right you probably are setting your opponents back in tempo more than you.

Dromar might be the most interesting Blue legendary creature because he very directly and obviously makes all those strange Blue color-changing cards relevant. I hope he gets a reprint in either Commander's Arsenal or next year's Commander product, since he's the only Invasion Dragon to not get a Modern Card frame. Duel Decks: Dromar vs. Darigaaz would be amazing because then we'd have alt. art FOILS of all five! :D

Primordial Dragons EDH Review 2/5: Dromar, the Banisher

The cycle of Invasion Dragons (Treva, Dromar, Crosis, Darigaaz, and Rith) are interesting options for EDH play. Unlike the Elder Dragons, there is more than 1 playable card, and none of them are really brutal/broken (though Rith is easily the best). What's good about them is they are all chunky fliers, which means they'll never be un-relevant for combat once you slap any staple Equipments on them, and they are Allied Colored, which makes decks easier to plan and build. Lands and Mana Artifacts are more available for ally colors than for Enemy colors, and the Enemy Lands that do exist are harder to afford because they're *always* rare.

First I'd like to point out something I skipped in my Treva , the Renewer review: Flavor. The reason to play Elder Dragon Legends, or Primordial Dragon Legends, over other cards, is twofold- first and foremost, even if you plan on making a creature-light deck with little emphasis on the battlefield (relative to other decks), you really want EVERY EDH deck you build to have at least one creature card that can serve as your "Godzilla" to Alpha Strike with and finish the game. Picking a Legendary Dragon for this role happens to be one of the coolest and most fun ways to do it. The second reason you'd pick specifically one of those 10 Dragons is that you have an appreciation for the colorful history of MTG and maybe (not guaranteed, but quite possibly) less of an appreciation for the Mythic Rarity in general, because you think it's not right that every Mythic creature is probably better than most of the Legendary Block Star Rares of yesteryore back when the story was really good. (Everything up to Time Spiral).

To that end, you kind of want to make some of your picks based more on Vorthos sentimentalism than strictly on winning. The Attendants cycle is the mana fixing you want to pick over Signets if you're running an Invasion Dragon (Crosis lucks out, since his is honestly helpful for his colors, not having any Green to fall back on, and Dromar thankfully fits this de***ion as well!)

Also the Dragon's Charm cycle, and the Lairs.
After you pick those 3 themed cards for your chosen Dragon, you want to look at your Dragon's Theme.

Dromar's is Bouncing. As has been pointed out by other posters, it's actually not difficult for Blue and White to make really good use of Bouncing and Enters the Battlefield abilities. I don't know if I'd play Wrath of God in Dromar since I also want it in Treva and I really want to build 5 Decks that feel very different from each other, and thus not boring to play against each other, and thus more fun! :D
If you focus on a LOT of Evacuation and Devastation Tide-type cards for your sweepers in Dromar, then you probably will be able to find enough that you don't truly miss Wrath of God.

I really, really don't want to play actually-Esper cards in Dromar, because if I wanted to use lots of Artifacts I'd have picked Sharuum as my Giant Flying Jerk. Instead, I'm going to go really old-school and use one of the old-bordered {W}{U}{B} legends as my Champion, preferably one that goes well with something very {U}. Halfdane, Merieke Ri Berit, and Ertai, the Corrupted all would be good choices in my mind. I might suggest Zur the Enchanter just because he's obviously very good and a bit of a classic, but I think he's likely to just killed on sight too much to do good unless he's the Commander.

Dromar is White, Blue, Black. You have no reason not to have the BEST control deck out of the 5 Invasion Dragons with him. The Deck- the one with Moat, is a good place to start for inspiration on how these colors can really get awesome given the chance. Counterspell, Orim's Chant, and Isochron Scepter feel like musts. Without the Stick, a lot of cards are kinda just bad in EDH or multiplayer in general. With the Stick, you cover exactly what used to be a weakness and turn it into a strength. Unwinding Clock will help you get extra uses out of any utility cards you want to use like that.

Ghostly Prison and Proganda are Moat-like and great. :)

I can't help but notice that he's the only one of the Primevals to have not gotten a reprint yet. Three of them got a new showing in Phyrexia vs. Coalition and one made a (foil!) appearnace in "Graveborn".

Seems like a powerful effect, but it really should say other creatures.

Honestly, I don't feel bad bouncing him to my hand if it also tempos out the rest of my opponents. For ways to avoid this though, Blind Seer and Dragon Arch provide two different approaches. Furthermore, Esper are the colors of etb effects. Are you really that sad about bouncing any of the various and extremely powerful etb creatures you have to work with? e.g. Baleful Strix, Stoneforge Mystic, Angel of Despair, Big Game Hunter and Man-o'-War. Shifting Sky provides hilarity, especially against creature-heavy decks, which will often have to discard due to hand-size. Play a lot of the Urza's Block 'free' creatures like Great Whale to ensure you have multiple plays if you have to bounce them. To ensure even more protection from tempoing yourself, use manlands like Celestial Colonnade and Creeping Tar Pit, as well as a lot of colorless artifact creatures. In EDH, things like Magister Sphinx can let you take control of entire games really easily. Combine these with Sunken Hope for a miserable game for your opponents. Also, Dromar is a 6/6 flyer for 6... what more do you want?
