this combos really well with hissing miasma and pyrotostatic pillar.

A very good card for stopping storm.

Not to be a jerk, but it doesn't combo with hissing miasma and pyrostatic pillar, those just do semi similar things. If you played this, then during that turn, those cards would be useless. Also, this doesn't stop storm, because storm copies the spells, it doesn't play them again. Furthermore, you can still cast spells with this on the stack, so any instants can be played before this resolves. Despite that, it is a very good card, and with it's more recent counterpart silence, there could be a viable deck with these and Isochron Scepter and maybe some permission for the spells that seep through at instant speed.

This does work with Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Isochron Scepter, due to Teferi's Oracle ruling.

This stops storm not by countering all the copied spells (because, as Uril pointed out, it does not do that) but by keeping the storm player from casting enough to cast a lethal storm. If you respond to two Dark Rituals with this, then they can't cast their Ad Nauseam until they find more mana. Or if you respond to Ad Nauseam with this, they can draw all those cards, but they'll have to wait till next turn to use them and possibly discard if they draw too many. Etc etc.

This is basically a white Time Walk, isn't it?

This card is amazing, it is very similar to Silence but has a kicker to make it even more effective if you have an extra untapped plains. ( chances are, you probably do )

Active player still has priority, which keeps this in check...even with the scepter.

Practically White's equivalent of Time Walk, AT INSTANT SPEED :)

There's everything to like about the card, if you're a white mage, as it is up there as far as power goes, right there, next to Balance ;)

The difference between this and time walk is with this your opponent is allowed to untap, and can still play activated abilities. Comparable, but time walk is better.

Strictly better than Silence

It's worth noting that this targets a player and that silence does not. In some sense this is more powerful in general, but it's a lot easier to counter and to block because it has to target a person. Silence doesn't care about anything on the field unless it's a counter-target spell/instant.

This is still generally better, but strictly better it isn't. It's not the same rules text; it doesn't function the same; so it's not comparable in the sense of "Strictly".

@GainsBanding
That's not true. This must resolve to stop storm. Now, it IS true that you can eat up their dark rituals, but I personally don't use those for my storm count as I'm a Brain Freeze guy. I just do high tide shenanigans. The most you'll eat of mine before I either quit for the turn or just combo anyway is something like a snap or a high tide. Indeed useful, but often not enough to really stop a combo.

This, imprinted on an Isochron Scepter, is actually strictly better than a Force of Will with Buyback 0. Let that sink in for a moment. :O

@achilleselbow - Almost, they can still play lands and activate abilities with this.

@Shadoflaam: No this is one opponent. Silence is all your opponents. People need to understand what strictly better means...

Half of the time, the game is decided by either casting this on your opponent's turn to stop their plans, or casting it at the beginning of your own so you can combo off...so awesome.

Wow, this card is actually better than Time Walk in many circumstances.

1) it can stop the other guy from playing in your turn.
2) it only costs 1 CMC much of the time rather than 2.

Of course Time Walk is much more broken because they don't get their draw and untap, but still. This card is basically as close as you can get to Time Walk for a low cost without being dumb. This card is bonkers.

Very good lockdown card. I'm confused though, it isn't as good because it can be responded to, right (with instants of course)? Also, wouldn't you need to respond to something since presumably it isn't your turn and you don't have priority?
