A control player's dream. Situation looking bad? 3 for 3 damage, since you have nothing better to do. Yes, please.

This is a good card. If you are in UB, you should play it.

This is awesome! 3/2 unblockable for 3 is good, plus it fits good in black/blue mill decks.

One of the best man lands ever printed.

I wouldn't have thought Wizards would ever print a land like this. It enters tapped, which is a big drawback. But compared to the legendary Shivan Gorge, we can do 3 damage to target opponent for four mana, the Gorge does 1 damage for the same amount of mana. (It's not 3 for 3 damage, keep in mind has to stay untapped in order to attack so you can't tap it for mana) That's indeed an amazing tool for control players.

With this and Celestial Colonnade coming into Standard, it seems that control gets a good boost from Worldwake. The unblockability makes this great.

@mode Amulet of Vigor will make this thing and all dual lands from zendakar suddenly really useful.

Kind of weird to see something this aggressive in what usually accounts for a control-centric color combination. Though a control deck could very well lock the opponent out with discard and counterspells and just 'bolt' them to death with this over a course of many agonizing turns.

Wait... that's an unblockable 3/2 for JUST THREE MANA???!?!?!?!?

Love it. Barely bests the Celestial Colonnade, but both man-lands are must haves.

This is my favourite man-land in Worldwake (the others are in descending order Dread Statuary, Celestial Colonnade, Raging Ravine, Lavaclaw Reaches and Stirring Wildwood). As long as you keep this untapped, you're able to convert 3 mana to 3 damage during each of your turns during the late game, when you likely have more mana than you know what to do with.

favorite out of the manlands :) just so damn good. UB is bomb alongside BR or just UBR. All Grixis/mill should have this. 5/5.

This land would be the best in the cycle if it wasn't part black. If it was blue + any other color it would definitely see use in legacy 40 land decks.

I want to put this in a ninja deck, just so I can see my opponents face when my manland turns into a rat ninja and takes that Bankslayer in their graveyard.

Fantastic. I run a control/burn deck with no basic land (tropical islands, underground seas, badlands, and this). Wokrs so good!

Wondering what would happen if I animated my tar pit and cloned it. Would the clone be a land?

@Amnesigenic: Excerpt from rule 706.2: "Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied." So if you drop a Clone and make it a copy of this while it's animated, the clone will initially be just a land (but it'll also have the ability to animate.)
I hate overpowered manlands. Jwar Isle Refuge would have been perfectly playable.

It does. It's a staple in a lot of 43 lands decks.

So, how's about that look on your face when I turn this into a creature, put a +1/+1 counter on it, and then make an Experiment Kraj a 3/2 Unblockable Elemental until end of turn. Sure, it's 6 mana. But man, is it funny.
I just never understood the "It's still a land" clause; why isn't that parenthesized reminder text? As it's written, it is part of the effect. Why does Kraj say he's still a land, when he never was one? The effect clearly states he is.

Okay, joking aside, this is really awesome. I love this one. First of all, it's really cheap, hits for 3 power every time, is basically unkillable, and really puts Lavaclaw Reaches to shame (that one shoulda been at least a 3/3 and given +X/+X instead of +X/+0). Also, this is really flavorful!!! I mean, I get Dread Statuary and Stirring Wildwood, but the others are just random! Why would a bunch of pillars turn into a giant flying thing? This makes sense, and would also be really good in Dark Ascension, as a "thing that goes bump in the night"

I love that this guy can't be snatched from my hand with Thoughtseize, taps for , can't be countered and doesn't die to Doom Blade type effects.
This is my control mirror matchup ace in the hole, both against Mono-Black Control and counter-heavy control decks.

@boneclub: Yes, I can spell ninja, but this isn't really an ideal enabler for them. After slowing down your mana on the previous turn, you pay ( plus tapping this to attack) AND the ninjutsu cost. Then you've bounced one of your lands, possibly having to wait another turn to play it... and it comes into play tapped again. And you squander the fact that this has 3 power; unless you have nine lands, whatever ninja you play will do less damage than this.
That said, if you want to use this for mana-fixing in the ninja colors and keep it as a last resort in case your Invisible Stalker gets taken out and your Baleful Strix can't get through...
Um...
Hell, I think I'm going to go do that now. Cheers!

This is really good. If you have static pump effects, it can get in for a lot of damage. Also, while more mana-intensive, equipping the tar pit can be brutal.
