would this stop progenitus, vigor, dread, hostility, guile, purity from going back into the deck?

If an ability triggers when the object that has it is put into a graveyard from play, that ability triggers from the in-play zone (such as Deadwood Treefolk or Epochrasite, for example), they won't be affected by Yixlid Jailer.
If an ability triggers when the object that has it is put into a graveyard from anywhere other than play, that ability triggers from the graveyard, (such as Krosan Tusker, Narcomoeba, or Quagnoth, for example). Yixlid Jailer will prevent those abilities from triggering at all.
So it would depend where the card comes from.

Yes it would stop them(Progenitus) because, this ability triggers as soon as it is on the stack(on top of the stack), so once good old Progenitus kicks the bucket, this ability triggers rendering Progenitus suspended in the graveyard until Yixilid Jailer leaves play.

What about Sedris? His Unearth ability doesnt belong to creature in graveyard, depending on point of view.

Actually with Sedris, it says right on the card that the ability belongs to every creature in your graveyard, so its like each card itself has unearth, and our little friend here would shut it down.

The flavor on this card is really cool. A jail that doubles as a cemetery for the magical dead. A warden that restrains them so they don't come back to life or muck up living reality. They're interesting ideas that I hope Wizards will flesh out eventually in their own set.

This would be great in a mill deck actually. Because those autorecyclers like progenitus and darksteel stop you from milling all the way.

The way I understand the effect of this card, it doesn't stop Progenitus from being shuffled back into the library since it states "If Progenitus would be put into the graveyard from anywhere, reveal Progenitus and shuffle it into its owner's library instead" meaning it just bounces back into the deck rather than ever entering the graveyard.
Yixlid Jailer's ability does, however, stop Guile, Dread and the other Elemental Incarnations because the text is a bit different, but in this scenario, it makes all the difference. "WHEN Guile/Dread/Hostility/Purity/Vigor is put into a graveyard from anywhere, shuffle it into its owner's library" which means they do, in fact, enter the graveyard before returning back into the owner's deck and Yixlid Jailer's ability would trigger, interrupting the ability and preventing the latter effect from happening.

I wonder what the set this card will be in will look like. What if many creatures had Anger- like effects in a block, then cards that negate them or could remove graveyards would be very good. Hmm sounds interesting.
Edit: Perhaps this is where Elspeth was born, if anyone has read the comics

From Comprehensive Rules: "603.6c Leaves-the-battlefield abilities trigger when a permanent moves from the battlefield to another zone, or when a phased-in permanent leaves the game because its owner leaves the game. These are written as, but aren't limited to, "When leaves the battlefield, . . ." or "Whenever is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, . . . ." An ability that attempts to do something to the card that left the battlefield checks for it only in the first zone that it went to. An ability that triggers when a card is put into a certain zone "from anywhere" is never treated as a leaves-the-battlefield ability, even if an object is put into that zone from the battlefield."
Emrakul goes to the graveyard, Emrakul stays in the graveyard. Definitely going in my U/B mill deck, or at least the side board.

Anyone want to bet this one comes back in Innistrad? We're told it's a graveyard-focussed set... I'm betting it will be reprinted.
And to the arguments about Progenitus and the Jailer... Look up the difference between a triggered ability and a replacement effect. Progenitus is a replacement effect "if it would ... instead". Guile is a triggered ability "When ..." So Progenitus still goes back into the deck.

Just for the sake of being correct: It's a static effect.
There is no trigger. It just works as long as Yixlid Jailer is on the battlefield. The reason is important because let's say you have something that shuffles itself back into your library when it enter's the graveyard.
If this was a triggered ability then the "Cards in graveyards" effect and the "Shuffle in" effect would occur simultaneously and therefore placed on the stack in turn order and resolve in reverse turn order. This being a triggered ability would cause it to perform inconsistently based on which player chose to go on the play or on the draw and that's just silly.

@Peabody ET, "Anyone want to bet this one comes back in Innistrad?" Seeing as how this is very similar to Humility (which has been singled out in various feature articles as both "highly influential" and "doesn't actually work under rules as written"), I doubt we'll see it in Innistrad. It makes you worry A LOT about the specifics of zone-change triggers, when they happen, and from where they originate (as this discussion proves), and also about the layers used to prioritize conflicting abilities. Ask a playgroup what happens when you try to return a Tarmogoyf to play with a Reveillark while this in play, and just watch the fireworks.

This really isn't that difficult of a card to play. Thanks to Magic's (Very well written) rules, this will usually work the way you expect it will. Actually I love this card. I love simply worded static abilities (Ex: Mirror Gallery) and I personally think this card is a necessity for mill decks, at least for your sideboard what with all the flashback, dredge, unearth and worst of all eldrazi floating around. I would put this only behind the Hedron crab for usefulness in mill.
This card will single-handedly send a dredge or unearth player into panic mode, but sadly you will need to defend the good lady, which is not easy. Strapping on a pair of Swiftfoot Boots is useful, and can also protect your Hedron Crabs.

@ GrimjawxRULES: This card effects a great many things, but The Mimeoplasm isn't really one of them. Though the creatures have no abilities while in the graveyard, The Mimeoplasm exiles the creatures, then copies the creatures in exile. The exiled creatures will still have all of their abilities. The only way Mr. Plasm will be affected by the Jailer is "put into a graveyard from anywhere" abilities which it might have copied (or some similar abilities). They trigger from the graveyard where he won't have them. (Not to be confused with "put into a graveyard from the battlefield", because this wording triggers from the battlefield, so they still work normally.)

I really like this card, but I can tell why it's less preferred as legacy/vintage hate. The thing about this is: -It's vulnerable to almost every discard card (except duress) -It's vulnerable to many forms of removal (at one mana no less) -Comes out turn 2
It may be aggressive, but Leyline of the Void is a free play and instant-hoses most of those decks. This guy hoses but comes out t2, requires mana, is counterable in many ways (including on t1 via discard) and also doesn't counter other graveyard based cards, such as tarmogoyf
Still, with all of that, i consider it a sturdy 4/5

Yixid Jailer does not interact with Blightsteel Colossus, Progenitus, Legacy Weapon, or any card with the replacement effect "If ~ would be put into a graveyard, instead..." That is because the card never actually goes into a graveyard.
It does however work with the legendary Eldrazi and with Worldspine Wurm, which have the triggered ability "When ~ is put into a graveyard..." because these cards actually do go into the graveyard. The catch however is that this only applies if the card is entering the graveyard from some zone other than the battlefield (such as your library or your hand). If the card dies (i.e. goes into the graveyard from the battlefield) then the ability triggers on the battlefield before Yixid Jailer can remove it.
Relevant rulings: If an ability triggers when the object that has it is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, that ability triggers from the battlefield (such as Deadwood Treefolk or Epochrasite, for example), they won't be affected by Yixlid Jailer.
If an ability triggers when the object that has it is put into a graveyard from anywhere other than the battlefield, that ability triggers from the graveyard, (such as Krosan Tusker, Narcomoeba, or Quagnoth, for example). Yixlid Jailer will prevent those abilities from triggering at all.
Some replacement effects cause a card to be put somewhere else instead of being put into a graveyard (such as Legacy Weapon). These effects mean the card is never actually put into the graveyard, so Yixlid Jailer can't affect it.

The sideboard slot for continuous dredge and other grave shenanigans hate is between this and Leyline of the Void. Both are very solid, but the leyline is probably better in most situations because it is more difficult for most decks to deal with. The jailer does have the advantage of being relevant in the later stages of the game- Flashback, unearth etc., but a free leyline at the start of the game can be impossible for some decks to deal with (dredge).
