I just used this card today to get over 2000 elves before my opponent resigned. (The funny part is that I used a pretzel to represent all the tokens)

obscenely good. no other words for it. just get 9 token elf warriors out, a heritage druid and a seedcradle witch, and then just make elf after elf...
total elf warrior tokens = 9 tap 6 of the elves you have to get 6 mana. 6 mana = make 9 more elves. tap all 3 for 3 mana. (see heritage druid rulings) spend 3 of it and {W} to untap rhys the redeemed.
total elf warrior tokens = 18, (9 tapped) tap 6 of the elves you have to get 6 mana. 6 mana = make 18 more elves. tap 3 of them for 3 mana. (see heritage druid rulings) spend 3 of it and {W} to untap rhys the redeemed.
total elf warrior tokens = 36, (18 tapped) tap 6 of the elves you have to get 6 mana. 6 mana = make 36 more elves. tap 3 of them for 3 mana. (see heritage druid rulings) spend 3 of it and {W} to untap rhys the redeemed.
total elf warrior tokens = 72, (27 tapped) tap 6 of the elves you have to get 6 mana. 6 mana = make 72 more elves.
you now have 144 elf warrior tokens. (33 are tapped). It cost you a mere 3 {W} for 135 elves...
you may want to follow this up with something like: tap 55 elves for 55 mana. Tap oracle of nectars to gain 55 life. Tap the remaining 56 untapped elves. Hurricane for 55 damage to all players.
or just swing with a drove of elves...

Using a good mana generating elf deck you can combo this with wirewood lodge and possibly Elvish Promenade

Heritage Druid + Elf token prodution (eg. Elvish Promenade) + Rys + HeNacatl War-Pride.
The War-Pride tokens that Rhys puts in don't come into play tapped & attacking nor do they leave play at end of turn.
I'm loving this

How dose this card not have a Five rating?
It's got it all. The flexible manna weight, the ability to combo, the ability to work in a great number of decks.
Advantages: It's great alone, in a deck made for it, this guy wins the game. Disadvantages: he has a weird face...
Mercy killing on a high power, low toughness creature you control

This guy is awesome, you know how there are those certain cards that feel just epic? I don't know how to put it any other way, like I am more careful with this than other cards I have that are worth more haha. He's really cheap to put out, his first ability is kind of expensive but it's totally a worthy investment. The second ability is just insane! Either of these abilities alone are good, but together?? Amazing, 5/5

If you can get the mana and the right cards,
Making a token copy of this guy is just too much fun.
But, aside from that little dream,
Since he embodies both token colors,
There is no reason not to throw this guy into any of your token decks (aside from colors, of course).
An amazing addition to any situation,
And even funnier with Doubling Season.

i am in the process of building a paradox haze deck that will utilize mycolothe, mirror-sigil sergeant, followed footsteps, and chronozoa. pretend after a few turns of pumping out creatures you double them with this. that would be craziness.

ummm he kinda makes a godly EDH general. Isamaru kinda overshadows him for a 1 drop general, but Rhys produces a buttload of tokens, and opens your deck up to both green and white. i personally pick him over Isamaru; even out of EDH he just owns people in the face without fail.
If you've thrown Splinter Twin on a card, he can make a permanent copy of the twin.

Definately my favorate card to play with and the most flexable for token production decks. Great synergy with Quest for Renewal, Leyline of Vitality, Trigon of Infestation and any other token creation creature, Artifact or enchantment.
Particularly fun when you have Ascetism or Viradant embrace on the field, or even Vigor.
Would have been much better, if his first ability would cost and his second ability instead. Six mana forces him into the "mana-elf" and not the "warrior-elf" league.

Mirror Sigil Sergeant hangs out with Rhys. Combo with Training Grounds, and you have an exponential number of rhinos coming into play. With trample. Every turn. Yeah, I want to do that now. 5/5
As far as johnny is concerned doubling sean blah blah. What about rings of brighthearth?

Rhys' name comes from the Cymraeg (Welsh language) word for king -spelled the same way-, therefore, it is pronounced Reese (a name which also happens to be derived from this word).

Why couldn't populate be Rhys' second ability? It's so much better.

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0)(2 votes)
@: SnackyNorph Actually populate cant be better, it can only mach him and only if there is exactly one token to populate. As long as there is two or more tokens Rhys is better. Although Rhys admittedly has problems with legendary tokens.

Kind of funny that a Celesnya EDH deck is best commanded by an Elf from Shadowmoor. Those 8/8 trampler tokens? Boom. 3/3 centaurs? Boom. Mycoloth Saprolings? BOOM.

All you need is a way to protect your tokens with something like asceticism, and a way to protect them from mass removal and you win!
Nice idea but you're obviously not familiar with the legend rule, the token produced by Dance of Many and Rhys the Redeemed would destroy each other.
@ Alblast
I have a cousin called Rhys (spelt the same way) in his case at least it's pronounced Reece.
Anyway, just made an EDH deck with him - Wow. He's especially fun when I get Joraga Treespeaker or Llanowar Mentor.

One 5/5 flier for 6? Not bad.
A 5/5 flier for 6 every turn (+ more copies of whatever tokens you already had)? Pretty darn good.
iNathan, because elf deck have no cheap pump effects....

He is the hipster elf.
Krenko gives you a goblin token for any goblin, Rhys gives you a copy of any token, including big ones. Interesting variations on the theme.
