I have to say that this is easily one of my favorite White control cards. I know a lot of people are using Oblivion Ring or Path to Exile but, this is so much more fun to play. I can be used as creature distruction on your opponents creatures and keeping you alive for a turn. Yeah you can Naturalize it but you can do that with O-Ring as well. There are just too many combos in Extended and Vintage with this, that it seems almost broken. And it works as a Planeswalker protector 'cause if you have this out and say Elspeth, if your opponent damages you to try and kill her, they no longer have priority to choose to damage your planeswalker. Just love it!!!!!
Oh and if there is an indestructible creature on the board...... just pariah it and you will have your opponents sweating the rest of the game....... almost makes you immortal..... beware of Path though.

If you have multiple pariahs out simultaneously, you choose which one to direct the damage to.

Use it on an opponent's creature, along with Ragged Veins. That's just a lot of fun, especially if their creature is hard to kill.

what's up with the flavour text for this (tenth ed. version) appearing in the sidebar but not on the card itself...
the flavour text seems relevant too, which makes it even weirder

i think if 2 pariahs are in play for the same player, both creatures get full damage. pariah means that if damage would be dealt to you, its not, and another creature get that amount of damage instead. and if there are two, they both need to get that damage.

The most general use is probably as roundabout removal, but there are combos that love this too. I'm surprised this doesn't get played more when it's in Standard.
@Kokirin and Tezz: ScisorsLizard is correct, Tezz is mistaken. A replacement effect can only replace an event once. You choose one Pariah to redirect the damage to, then the other one has nothing left to replace.

@doolydooly: the flavour only appears on the foil version, as the reminder text for enchant creature takes up most of the space on the card, but is not printed on the foil.

Absurd card, so easy to break. Worst case scenario, it's removal + holy day OR forces opponent to use their own removal on their creature.

No no no.. you guys all have it wrong.
Cast Treacherous Link on an opponent's creature along with Pariah to redirect all damage that you would take to your opponent instead, then follow that up with a Greater Auramancy or two to make sure they don't destroy your enchantments or their creature.
Or cast those same enchantments on a creature you control to redirect all damage you would take into a neverending loop. :)

Try INFINITE DAMAGE people...well not infinite damage, but there are some combos out there that let people gain massive life, sometimes infinitely until they cut their combo loop, somewhere in the millions. And of course this combo will be legal in some tournaments, especially the tournies that don't let you use Unglued, Unhinged and Portal Set cards not reprinted;) Our beloved Mogg Maniac with Treacherous LinkandPariahor Pariah Shieldslapped on, then trigger any damage ability targeting yourself or Moggy McMassacre! What you have in my opinion is the best three card infinite damage loop ever invented;)Remember I said something about infinite life gain until someone kills the combo? Have ANY creature have the Treacherous Link and Pariah or Pariah Shield on with a Soul Link firmly attached. Let the loop go on and on, gaining life and so forth, but be careful to have the ability to destroy any of the enchantments, or find a way to send the creature to the graveyard, or you will draw the game. End the loop in the millions of life, then proceed to use whatever means you prefer to bring back the cards you need to slap said evil combo of infinite(almost) damage to your opponent for a screaming good time;)Blood of the MartyrOnce a two star card at best, it is now easily a 3 star support card in the Treacherous Linkand Pariahand Pariah Shield infinity combo decks! Along with Ali From Cairo,Fortune Thief,Jade Monolith,General's Regalia,Bubble Matrixand Worship!
The obvious combo is Stuffy Doll. Doesn't even require any thought, which kinda irks me. Least I can still Oblivion Ring the resulting abomination. So long as you don't have two Greater Auramancies out, in which case I'd have to resort to my backup strategy of strangling you.

Very under-appreciated card. Removal + stalls your opponent's attack for a turn. Or play it on your own creature if it has "prevent all damage" or is indestructible.
Does the Kor's prot Red prevent the damage? Or not?

what happens if i enchant a White Knight with this, and I am dealt damage by a black source. is the damage still considered "black' by the time it gets to the Knight?
Your opponent domes you with LB. The life gain due to Firewalker goes onto the stack. Pariah causes the LB to want to target the Firewalker, but it can't as the Firewalker has prot red. The Lightning Bolt therefore lacks a legal target and fizzles. Pending other items being added to the stack, you then gain some life; gratz!

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Ghostyman; Actually, the LB would target you, it would resolve, Kor firewalker would cause the life gain, "you" would take 3 damage, however, any damage dealt to you is instead dealt to the enchanted creature, therefore Kor Firewalker would take 3 damage. Its' protection from red does it little because the LB never actually targets it, the damage just shifts to it.

I like to combo this with Ward of Lights for whatever color my opponent is playing.
So lets say they are elves, I put Pariah on one of their elves, and then put ward of lights "Choosing Green" on their elf as well.
They deal damage to me, it is redirected to their elf, and then deals 0 damage. In most mono matches without mass removal this can stall the game long enough for me to do just about anything :).

I'm surprised no one has commented on the flavor of this yet. WHY IS THIS WHITE?!
Certainly totalitarian governments (the dark side of white) create pariahs - but they do so because they consider the Pariah to be nonwhite in some way shape or form. The Jews are too Blue, the Blacks are too Green - not take an innocent white citizen and make them take damage.
This either needs to have the clause "Enchant nonwhite creature" or be titled "Martyr" or some other white value.

@Aburaishi that's a great combo for a total stand still, but for an early game advantage I would suggest Predator Ooze. You can get the combo out sooner and you'll have an offensive tool that just gets bigger as the game progresses. Throw on a Whispersilk Cloak with a Leonin Abunas in play (possibly also wearing a cloak) and that'll be gg in most games. And there's so many fun things you can combo with predator ooze : )
@Tetsu_tora, would Phyrexian Obliterator now consider your Pariah the source of the damage and force YOU to sacrifice permanents? Cause that would be a backfire… I suppose not because it's a redirect and not the originator of the damage, but that would take some lookin to confirm. Anyone?

i did search on the comp. rule book, i only found two rules with the word redirect, but one of them was about planeswalkes, i underlined the important stuff:
614.9. Some effects replace damage dealt to one creature, planeswalker, or player with the same damage dealt to another creature, planeswalker, or player; such effects are called redirection effects. If either creature or planeswalker is no longer on the battlefield when the damage would be redirected, or is no longer a creature or planeswalker when the damage would be redirected, the effect does nothing. If damage would be redirected to or from a player who has left the game, the effect does nothing.
the rule wasnt compleetly clear but im preaty shure that the damage still counts as damage from an opponent's source. i checked the rulings on both this card and phyrexian obliterator, nothing in either of those either.
on my own note, this is one the most amusing ways to kill a Blightsteel Colossus

@KnezWix: Your comment caused all below you to go to italics.
The damage to stuffy doll doesn't redirect, it simply deals damage whenever it is damaged. It will take damage from pariah and then deal the damage to you. Then pariah will deal that damage to stuffy doll and then stuffy doll will attempt to deal damage to you, thus triggering pariahs damage affect again. So basically its an infinite loop and you'll have to either call it a draw or ignore it.

I like how this is like putting your life total at the toughness of target creature, and putting it back at that number every single turn.
Pariah's Shield is still better, though, because if something happens and the Fog Bank Dies (as in Unstable Footing) you can just reattach it, as long as you are in control of the thing you want to take the damage. Even if you aren't, there are still ways to get an equipment onto an opponent's creatures (i.e. Traitorous Blood)
What do you mean by combining it with fog bank? Fog Bank's ability only prevents combat damage dealt to/by fog bank. Any other damage (including re-directed damage via Pariah) will instantly kill the fog bank. And in the case I'm wrong about the re-directed damage, the fog bank will still die whenever any other damage source hits the enchantment-controlling player.
Whoa... you can enchant your opponent's creatures?
@Manite: unfortunately the Zendikar fetchlands and the Ravnica shocklands require you to pay life, which results in loss of life, not damage. You can't redirect loss of life.
