This is Richard himself, who refused to vote him 5.0?! Without him, we wouldn't be here.

A little too ambiguously worded - you could read it to mean that you can play any Magic card as if it were any number of other Magic cards as long as they all have the same mana cost.
Otherwise, pretty versatile, as long as you're not in an environment where people hit you for playing Unhinged. Kind of a shame it's not global, too.

Oh, right, my comment! Sorry, Dark Raider...it's not quite THAT broken. The mana symbols need to match exactly...basically, he lets you play mental Magic in a "normal" game. So...Welding Jar can be a Black Lotus or Ornithopter, and Giant Growth could become Berserk, etc. And I suppose any land can become any other land...long story short, still epic, 5/5.
I have a framed version of this I hang on my wall, and pray to every night before a draft.

I think I found my new EDH general. My playgroup will probably kick me out the second or third time I play an index card as a Blacker Lotus (notice it says "you may play CARDS, not MAGIC CARDS").

WHO THE F*** DARES RATE IT ANYTHING LESS THAN 5/5!?!?!?!?!?!!!?? YOU DONT DESERVE MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@zntumall: the card needs to have a printed cost of 0. A card with NO cost printed on it cannot be cast normally. So only magic cards can actually be played this way. Besides, cards that are not magic cards are illegal in the deck. However if your friends ALLOW it, go ahead...
The most skill (/encyclopediac knowledge) testing commander out there. Plus then you could effectively play any card in your deck regardless of whether it's banned or not or you can afford it (Black Lotus). I so have to see if anyone would let me play this. Worst case I can always use him as a backup general in case I'm ever actually allowed to use him.

Black lotus is an amazing first turn card. Not as awesome on turn 5. Time walk is the big bad boy. Also, every blue card in your deck becomes a counter spell or bounce spell as necessary. You can put reactive cards in the deck because they could be efficient creatures.
Thank you Richard Garfield, Ph.D. for making a pair of twos able to win you a different game.

@SgtSwaggr: Richarld Garfeild wasn't even on the Worldwake design team. Innistrad will be the first block he's had a direct influence on card-wise since Ravnica. And I'm pretty tired of Jace, the Mind Sculptor getting such a horrid wrap among players. It kinda make you sound like the Indie Hipster to talking down to a guy because his music is "too mainstream". He's a great utility card, and crucial to many decks strategies being optimized and executed. No, I don't think this warrants a 75-90 dollar price tag, but thats supply versus demand.
As for the Card in question, -now that the rant has been exhausted out of me- it is simply amazing. Mental Magic was always a fun thing at school. And the EDH possibilites makes my Johnny-bells jingle. 10/5

Ultimate casual Godhand and first turn...
Me (turn 1, on the play): Swamp, Dark Ritual, Black Lotus, sac for blue...
Opponent: *GASP!*
Me: Richard Garfield, Ph.D., then cast Black Lotus #2, #3, and #4 as an Ornithopter, a Phyrexian Walker, and a Memnite!
Opponent: WTF just happened?

If you've got a singleton Richard Garfield in your deck, can you play Force of Will AS that Richard?
Tough Play Decision: What should you cast 4-cost blue cards as? Cryptic Command, or Jace the Mind Sculptor? And if 'color' also means color DENSITY...well, I think that dropping the density requirement probly doesn't break the format much more than it already is, and would make all the uniquely costed cards more fun...
And anyway it's Un-Set, so the rules are what you want them to be, and Jace probably should have cost Bluer anyway.
So, forgetting all the other details- say they cost exactly the same- which is better to name? Jace or CC?

Random facts:
Richard Garfield is the great-great-grandson of U.S. President James A. Garfield. Richard's great uncle invented the paper clip.
Yes, my EDH general is the creator of magic. No this isn't unfair. Wouldn't be playing this game if it weren't for him. You probably should just concede now out of sheer respect. If you don't, well... Richard here won't have much trouble making you do that. ):-)

Hello Planeswalkers. Look at your card. Now back to me. Now back at your card. Now back to me. Sadly, it isn't me, but if it were a Time Warp, it could play like me. Look down. Back up. What's on your board? I have it. It's 2 mana for that Time Walk you want to cast. Look again, the Time Walk is now Storm Crow! Anything is possible when you play Richard Garfield, Ph.D. I'm on a Phelddagrif

People have mentioned Razor Boomerang and Blacker Lotus, but has anyone realised that you can combine the two to destroy your boomerang in-game and get as a bonus?
Of course, he's also a legendary creature. Meaning that he dissipates whenever he looks into a mirror. Shame.

I think posting on this card should be a sort of pilgrimage for Magic players.
I do want to build an EDH deck with him as the general, but intentionally pick the silliest cards possible since their mana costs will be all that matters. Both for giggles, but also kinda symbolic. Enjoy this game. Enjoy the bad cards, enjoy the good cards. Be creative. Play, explore, think, innovate, learn, adapt, and make friends with those who do the same.
If you really meant it when you said "good game", you won.

Zantumall is actually somewhat right about this. It says cards, not magic cards. While you're correct in stating the card needs to have the same mana cost you're forgetting some things... I believe those things are called Ancestral Vision, Evermind, Hypergenesis, Living End,
Lotus Bloom, Restore Balance, Wheel of Fate.
