While a 1/5 for 2 is nice, the flavor for this card bobbles my mind. A 1/5 cat? WTH? And then the flavor text about them going off to the most dangerous of lands and seeking their death? This card would have been much better as a rhox or something like that, the card as it plays is fine but the flavor leaves me scratching my head.

I agree, as a cat, and with that flavour text, this should have been a 5/1 or at least a 4/1.

just like the wild leotau 1/5 is also kinda strange for a leotau. Unless its just REAL tuff. The knights riding leatau are usually only 2/2 or 3/3. Wished they had made these guys like multi-colored kird apes or Savannah lions.

I agree, needs to be a 5/1. Although I can see how it may make sense. First off it's {W}{G} (very defensive combo). Second, the flavor could be seen as indicating how tough he is (hence the high toughness).

wow...and I remember when a 2/2 or 1/3 was acceptable for 2.

it's not a cat, strictly speaking, it's a leotau. See the hooves? it's a kind of hybrid creature, and quite a bit burlier than a typical cat.

Underrated. One of the most powerful creatures you can get for two, leaving out abilities.

Should be an other Creature-Subtype, really. Besides that it is pretty nice for defensive Decks.

I'm not quite sure why but I absolutely love this card, just the feel of it and the flavor.

wow, 2 cmc for a 1/5. just equip gorgon flail and you have a deadly defensive creture out for quite cheap

Yeah, how come there isn't a leotau subtype?

The flavor text implies they live long enough for thier fur to turn white. How would low toughness make the flavor fit?

I like it. I don't love it, but I like it. It might find its way into the new GreenWhite deck I'm building.

I prefer the solid Watchwolf. Anyway this is a great defender.

Since he's old, his attacks are weak, and yet his experiences have made him very tough. Before he's completely incapable of fighting off attacks, he goes to a place where he can die fighting, the worst place he could possibly go: Grixis, where green and white are aberrations. I'd gladly let him fight in my G/W deck if I had a copy.

Consider how many 2 CMC creatures are able to break through that 5 toughness. Technically there were five ever printed, but in any real turn 2-4 situation it's more like zero. Only Dimir Infiltrator's unblockable attribute or various flying creatures can get by Grizzled Leotau in the early game. This guy hoses ground-bound aggro decks all by himself.

Consider also how many 2-drop walls are saddled with less than 5 toughness, less than 1 power, and defender.

Withstands Bloodbraid Elf, Sprouting Thrinax, and even Leatherback Baloth and Vengevine. Takes a hit from Ball Lightning with minimal trample overflow. Takes two Lightning Bolts to kill. Stop me when I mention something that hasn't shown up en-masse in every tournament held in the last two years. He also qualifies for Flying and Indestructibility at your leisure with Shield of the Oversoul.

Interesting how Watchwolf is considered a better card and yet this guy can block a Leatherback Baloth and survive, not to mention a Watchwolf. And its a common, while Watchwolf is an uncommon. I love Watchwolf, especially cos it baffles people who don't understand how 2CMC can get you a 3/3 creature and still be fair, but I love this guy too for different reasons.

Could work neatly in a tri-color, WhiteGreenBlue deck, by using Twisted Image and/or Inside Out to switch the power and toughness. With a drawn card as an extra bonus, this could be a clutch play with something like Double Cleave. If Grizzled Leotau is given protection, first strike, or double strike - throw in the switch, and this makes a cheap offensive play.

Grizzled Leotau can be a double-edged sword so to speak. I like the flavor text and the art too.

He's the right colors for Doran, the Siege Tower. A 5/5 for GreenWhite is about as good as it gets.

Combine with Spider Climb for a 1/8 with reach as early as turn 2. What's that? You wanted to attack me with something?

I don't get why so many people are say in it shouldn't be a cat or it should be a 5/1 instead. I know cats are typically more renowned for lithe bodies and stealth attacks, but a, this brother is part horse, and b, its old and by depiction male. Its not hunting, prowling, pouncing. Its a survivor.
