@spoonish
Your sideboard actually IS considered to be outside of the game. In tournament play, it used to be that the Wishes could get cards that were either removed from the game or cards from your sideboard. But now that the condition of being removed from the game is an official, not-outside-the-game zone known as the Exile zone, the Wishes in tournament play can only fetch cards from your sideboard.
However, in casual, they can get ANY card from your entire collection or your sideboard, which I think is where they're really fun ^_^ Hurray for spending 15 minutes trying to dig out one rare from your boxes and holding up the whole game!! :D

Yeah. I got two of these and decided to build a deck around them. Even though I play casual, I do keep a sideboard of 15 cards specifically for this card to fetch.

@Omenchild

They didn't change the rules about this regarding the Exiled zone because that would defeat the purpose of cards like Scour, Splinter, Quash, Extirpate, et al.

Mth needs more wishes imo.. I always thought they were really cool.. They could make a wish that could fetch planeswalkers or something^^

I just love this flavor text. You get the gold - multicolored - but not the land to play it. Except you probably will pick one you have the colors for. If you're smart.

This would be completely undercosted if you could pull from your exiled zone, not to mention stupidly annoying. It would make JTN useless against any gold deck in extended:
"I play Lord of extinction, he's a 48/48."
"I cast iona's judgement, exile it."
"Glittering wishes, he comes back to my hand for 2 mana!"

That would be a serious facefuck :\

i wish they never changed the rule about exile and these cards. then it means you cant use them to recover stuff you want, UNLESS YOU OWN MORE OUTSIDE THE GAME. so lame, money sink in casual

Edit: Yeah, because they fix'd these cards because the ability to oppose exiling cards is just SOOO broken. And if someone exiled a permanent you own, you could still just search for new copies outside of the game, if you have them. Crap like this pops up in my casual games all the time.

N00B QUESTION:

Can I (as per tourney rules) have 4 copies of a card in my main deck and then 1 copy (bringing us to a total of 5) in my Sideboard and then play Gittering Wish to put that 5th copy in my hand?

If so, may all 5 copies be in play at once?

Ashkaan: The 4-of rule is for your deck and sideboard combined.

I love how mean the flavor text can be. The gold is obviously the card, and the strength to carry it can be seen as the mana you need to cast it. You can go get that U/R card from your board, but you might not be able to cast it in your G/W deck ;D

Hey! You could use Glittering Wish to get back that first Glittering Wish you used earlier on in the game! Very useful! Hey, wait a minute.....

I can't help thinking this should have been:

Glittering Wish is multicolored, and is all colors.
Spend at least two colors of mana to cast Glittering Wish.
(actual card text that it has now)

Would have allowed a BR deck, for example, to play it as well, but maybe they thought the effect was inherently WG. Or maybe they didn't want to give Johnies to opportunity to break the "this card is all colors" amendment.

4.5/5 from me just for that, but I haven't played it so I won't rate it.

@ Ashkaan , if nobody else has answered already, (btw that's totally not a noob question, I had to check the official rules myself) in tournaments the 4-of-rule applies to both the deck and the sideboard, which means the best you could do is 3 in the deck and 1 in the sideboard, for a grand total of 7 instances to run into it, counting the wishes as "it", whatever "it" may be.

this card and all 'wishes' in general just rub me the wrong way... I don't like the mechanic. what a cheap shot. play with the cards that you started the game with.

Technically speaking you can cast this and then go buy some cards after your opponent passes priority, I think. (Usually you can't do anything during resolution, but buying cards from people isn't a game action...)

I really like the subtle flavor of this card that I don't think any of the comments have picked up on.
All of the wishes were from the Judgment set. In Judgment, white and green were the dominant colors and all the multicolored cards were white/green. Thus,this card is not just a reference to the wish cycle, but the set that the wish cycle was in.

Style points if you fetch Reparations with this.

2 mana tutor is always broken. You can just slip 15 targets in your sideboard.

@Stuntman

So did I, this thing is actually brutal in casual play.

I have a full playset, and the main deck is mostly set on mana fixing, draw, domain and board clearing. Then, when the time is right, you simply fetch what you need from the sideboard - either a win condition, or something to remove the impending threat.

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Mirari's Wake, Merciless Eviction, Decimate or any of the ultimatums are all amazing cards to fetch, just to name a few.
