Interesting twist on Watchwolf. But man, is that Monstrosity cost rough.

It's not so bad. Here's a simple casual combo:
T1: Breeding Pool, Training Grounds
T2: Plains, Fleecemane Lion
T3: Any land, go monstrous and attack.

Jesus, Bant Hexproof much? this thing is the definition of "kill it before it becomes a problem", because if you don't that's SOME problem. I think a 4/4 with hexproof and indestructable for 3WG would be too good. Monstrosity can do some pretty cool things.

Dear Standard Players,

here's your new monster in case GW survives rotation.

Interesting that Watchcat is the only SURE-FIRE constructed-playable monstrous creature, given that it's part white, which is just about the only color that doesn't get gratuitous monstrous this set (blue is a close second-to-last). Did Selesnya not have enough good two-drops? I mean, I get that Naya needs some toys for the next standard rotation, but after Call of the Conclave, Voice of Resurgence, and Selesnya Charm, I figured that's lay off the gas a bit and do something that isn't a strictly-better Watchwolf grafted onto the body of a feline that looks something like Scar in his twilight years.

I guess this means Herakles's wrestling techniques were of the -X/-X variety.

It's true that it'd be a lot better with a {2}{G}{W} monstrous cost, but that'd be ridiculous. As it is, it's a Watchwolf with a great combat trick and spot removal/board-wipe resistance that should see a bit of play in the Modern {G}{W} Hatebears deck.

Voice of Resurgence *might* keep it out of standard for the time being. Still very, very good.

If you manage to get monstrous vs. a Red deck they are going to have a hell of a time removing it other than Mizzium Mortars.

Efficient as all hell! Thank God this thing doesn't have trample, otherwise it would be unstoppable. Otherwise, it's insanely strong and, despite a few of the comments I've seen, works really well alongside Voice. Having it die in response to monstrous is a pain, but not if you get a free token out of it :)

I like this card. I just don't like that being a rare makes Watchwolf almost strictly better. I mean, I think it would still be fine as a 2/3 or 3/2.

Compare to Darksteel Gargoyle, which costs 7, which just so happens to be the total mana you spend on Fleecemane Lion. Only the Lion doubles as a Watchwolf.

Watchcat is watching you. And probably eating you. This is pretty strong for Selesnya aggro, and the monstrosity cost is actually very doable here.

Near invincible if it wasn't for the fact that they give you 2 turns to respond. This card is the definition of Monstrosity as a mechanic.

I don't think this card is unfair. Historically it seems like Selesnya was known as a weak color combination and even though I'm a control player, I think the GW color combination deserves to have something like this creature and Voice of Resurgence going for it, because it doesn't offer too much else.

I was thinking of going back to standard, but the way they completely overpower selesnya, I'd rather not. This is just bad card design, A 3/3 FOR 2CMC NEEDS DRAWBACKS NOT EXTRA POWER CHOICES... wtf wizards, is this the usual BS of making a bard that is overly good to sell the set? This makes me lose respect for Wizard, has Selesnya taken them over or wtf is happening? I don't even wanna know what this guy's pricetag is.

What a dumb card.

Look forward to seeing four of these on both sides of the table in the majority of decks for this block.

In fact, look forward to seeing the following sequence of play:

Turn 2: Fleecemane

Turn 3: Anger of the Gods

OR

Turn 2: Fleecemane

Turn 3: No Anger?

Turn 4: Still no Anger?

Turn 5: Scoop.

Skyknight: either that, or whenever he deals combat damage to a creature, that creature's controller exiles it.

This card is amazing. Solid enough for a 3/3 for only 2 mana, but great for later in game when it goes from a ktty to a lion :D

If you don't want to pay 5 mana to make this cat Monstrous, you might instead pay one mana and use a card such as Burst of Strength.

EDIT: Well, apparently not. :( I'm reading in multiple (other) places that, whereas, activating Monstrosity (usually) places +1/+1 counters, placing +1/+1 counters does =not= activate Monstrosity.

So, making this cat Monstrous does indeed requiring finding/spending 3GW, it seems. My Burst of Strength "cheat" is a NoGo. Sigh.

Why does this card have a lower rating than Watchwolf? It's a strictly better creature.

In any case, this card is a beast. It doesn't synergise at all in my G/W blink deck but the impact it has when it hits the board Turn 2 still makes me run a playset of them. One of those cards that could survive into constructed long after Theros cycles out.

Sit down, young whippersnapper, at let me tell you a story.

Back in my day, we could kill annoying hexproof creatures in combat or with a little card called Wrath of God. Yes, it was a simpler time. Those were the days.... those.... were the days...

It might just be because I run Golgari and ample removal/desecration demons to deal with this before monstrous but this card still has not made Selesnya competitively playable, and frankly I've never been worried by an opponent having this hit the field. Hell even their instant speed 5/5 worm token dies to abrupt decay.

Cheap creature that stays good later in the game. 4p/t indestructible hexproof doesn't bust anything. Hard to get rid of, but the opponent can still just block him every turn or kill him before he gets monstrous. I approve. 5/5

TheWrathofShane
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Lets see.

He is a 3/3 for 2. Fantastic, early on he will easily be able to swing for damage, or prevent 2/2's from attacking, or whatever.

Later on he can beef up to be a 4/4 indestructible hexproof. THIS IS VERY HARD TO REMOVE.
~Wrath of God? Nope.
~Doom Blade? Nope.

A lot of decks are going to have trouble getting rid of this guy. Soooo good for an efficient 3/3 for 2 creature.

I'm running four fleecemane lion in my modern zoo deck. Great two drop creature. Not sure why it's not seeing more play in standard. Pick up a playset while they're cheap. Catch you on down the trail, and may all your hits be crits!
