A great card to use in mono black with the shadow creatures (look up dauthi, it basically means your creatures are unblockable and can't block).
Throw in Dark Ritual and Blood Pet for acceleration and you've got a GREAT aggro/combo beginners deck.
It's cheap, easy to put together, and simple to play. It's a Trifecta!

A tournament worthy card, to be sure. But it just doesn't appeal to me. How often are you going to get the turn two hatred on a carnophage play? DOUBLE Dark Ritual? That practically NEVER happens!! And what happens if your opponent counterspells this? You still lost 18 life!!

I'd recommend SB Boseiju if you want to use this effectively. One of the best creatures to use it with might be Neither Traitor, thanks to haste, the ability to pop back, and shadow. Back up the deck with rituals, tendrils of corruption, duress/thoughtseize, etc. and you might be in luck.

A good suicide black card but rubbish in control match-ups. Bonus points for flavour.
The other day me and my buddies were playing EDH and my one friend swung me with a Reassembling Skeleton with a Gravepact on the battlefield. Not wanting to lose my Sun titan so easily I let it through, only to witness him dump 39 life into hatred. Funniest play ever.
This card isn't just good, it's fun. Even those on the recieving end will keel over laughing when you swing them with a 19/2 Ornithopter, or as me and my pals like to call it, a Hatredthopter.
I don't think that people who say that this card is too expensive have ever played with or against it. The moment you can cast it you won if you have any creature in play, if your opponent is tapped out or whatever.
Here some other uses for the card: - infect / poison creatures - generals in EDH for general damage - double strikers - creatures with abilities that care about their power, such as spikeshot elder, spikeshot goblin or viridian joiner

too many conditions for this to be an effective vintage card need more life than opponent need to play a 1v1 instead of multiplayer (unless its two headed) opponents must not have burn spells, meaning you'll have to run some discards unless they are tapped out and even then they can play free burners/misdirections either from hand or table
it's hard to cast this in a scenario where you don't feel like you must win immediately unless you successfully cast it on a lifelink creature

Those of you with your great turn 1 and 2 win combos, I suggest you take a course in probability to see how often those combos actually come out.
Otherwise, good card in the right situation. I just wouldn't bet the house on it as there are way too many ways to stop it dead in its tracks.

Use this card with infect, lifelink, commander damage, or double strike. Can be an instant kill.
I think it's because Hatred costs and Channel costs . It's like how Time Walk is banned and Time Warp isn't.
On the other hand, Hatred is exceptionally powerful in EDH. All you need is your general to swing in unblocked (Geth, Lord of the Vault and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed preferably because of Intimidate) and you could kill a player like that.

This card was responsible for the one truly epic tournament win i ever had. Turn one: swamp, play Stone Throwing Devils opponent plays an island. turn two: attack, double dark ritual, hatred for +19/+0. opponent: you gotta be kidding me.
Mountain, Drop the Rite of Flame, Manamorphose for R and B, Goblin Guide, Dark Ritual, Dark Ritual, Hatred For 19, Swing for 21.
I suppose it would work with any hastey 1 drop (of any color even).

A very good card. Many times read: pay almost your life: win the game.
As it can be countered after you paying the life it can be very disappointing when your opponent have a Force of Will or Cancel.
We know new players don't like having their spells countered. It is more disapointing when that spell takes the additional costs away!
If they change the additional costs rule to be payed always during resolution, the game would be funnier.

play a swamp or mountain, mox diamond, 2 dark rituals, raging goblin and hatred. i loved playing first and killing my opponent before he had a chance to mulligan. it worked one out of every 20 times, one of the most satisfying combos i ever came up with.

And last but not least, this card DOES age well. with the new 1cmc zombies (Diregraf Ghoul, and Gravecrawler)go well in this deck type, and the addition of Pact of Negation is a THIRD answer to 'combo breaker' cards like FoW.

Faith's Shield is another good card to use with this. Cast Hatred on your evasive creature and pump pretty much all your life into it, now you are in Fateful Hour mode. If the opponent tries to burn you or kill the creature, you can cast Faith's Shield to foil their plans. You could also use Faith's Shield to make sure that your hatred creature will be unblocked.
