I plan on making a artifact deck running 4 of these along with 4 solarions easy reusable finisher in a big multiplayer match.. especially when you have friends who play ally decks with 4 ondu clerics and end up with well over 100 hit points

The art is like Volcanic Hammer throwback.
The card itself suffers from an expensive equip cost. There are ways around that.
Seems it would be good with creatures that have vigilance, attack, hit with first strike damage, then chuck the trident.

Basically, this is a Soul's Fire
1. that's reusable
2. has no color restrictions
3. no card disadvantage if your creature is killed in response (the damage still gets through to!)
4. give a creature first strike if you need it

I want this for an infect deck. First Strike with Infect? Yes please. Ways of getting those last 2 or 3 poison counters in? Yes please. No need to splash another color? Yes please. :)

This + Wall of Blood reads "If you have more life than your opponent, you win the game".

Now, BlademanFX, we can even do one better: this on a Blightsteel Colossus. It literally is a 2 card GG from any position or state the game may be in....well....barring something like ivory mask or leyline of sanctity.

with this, puresteel paladin, an orge's cleaver, and 4 creatures, it's game over.

I like this, but that equip cost really puts me off from it... i haven't found a solid spot for it in any of my decks.

This card seemed so cool to me until I was told that it takes 21 COMBAT damage from a general to kill someone in EDH. Then it just lost all its fun.

Severely underrated card. Great for stand-offs, Infect decks, etc...

I have two of these sideboarded in my giant green creature deck, just in case my enemy has some sort of shenanigans to avoid just getting beaten over the head. It works wonders, although it doesn't fit thematically: "You think you can Pacify my Primordial Hydra? Fine, he'll just throw a trident at you really REALLY hard.

How would this work if Experiment Kraj put a +1/+1 counter on the creature that equipped this? Would using the Kraj's copied ability unequipt the Trident from the thing it copied, or could it just use its ability without having to unequip anything. Either alternative is hilarious if you're not the controller of the equipped creature it copies.

Steel Hellkite for some fun versatile removal

Phage doesn't work because it's not counted as combat damage.

This on a Darksteel Colossus equipped with a Cranial Plating = good game! Cruel but legal lol. 4.5/5

@Flyheight: You're totally right about that. Hurray for Blight! 8)

It's a bit expensive to use, but worth it in the right deck. One nice thing is that both its effects work well on high-power, low-toughness creatures. Also, you can wait until the end of your opponent's turn to activate it, so you can still use the creature as a blocker; and it's a good way to get high-power defenders to swing, too.

I was thinking of putting this in my Rafiq EDH for the fact that THE CREATURE does the damage. So with Rafiq pumped up from Exalted post combat phase with say this and a Distortion Strike cast on it with even 1 or 2 other sources that'd equal: 4 (attack) + 3 (exalted) x 2 (doublestrike) = 14 direct commander damage. Then Rafiq throwing the trident at that same opponent's face for the final 7 damage is game over for that player. That set up is pretty easy to have set up too, at least in my group's metagame.

The things that turn me off of this is the need to tap the creature (its fair, but needs a set up) and the equip cost (3 would've been perfect, so its slightly clunky.)

Sorry Eternal_Planeswalker, but the 21 damage rule applies to combat damage only. Thus the trident won't help you there. Otherwise Heartless Hidetsugu, and myriad other generals, would be intolerable. Not that Rafiq needs help carrying games in EDH.

As for the trident, its not great. Too slow to help most infect decks or other aggro. If you had an equipment centered deck with cards like Puresteel Paladin, then I could see it being more of a powerhouse. I'd say this is an okay, niche, card.
