The only card I can think of that effectivly prevents loss of life (not damage).

As a comment relating to Silverware's comment... sacking Children of Korlis doesnt "prevent" anything. It simply gains life back that youve lost in last 1 turn. For example If you were to take loss of life to 0 life or below then sacrificing Children of Korlis will not save you from fatal dammage. You will have already lost the game.
The various combos and tricks you can do with this card are wondrous. Even if you're not abusing its ability, you can just use it to recover after a painful attack. Great!

Know what I like best about it? The first two words are SACRIFICE CHILDREN.

Funny story...this is the only card in MtG with Children in its title.

A reference to Martyrs of Korlis, though at a much lower cost and much more practical at the expense of being a one shot deal, barring Lin Sivvi shenanigans.

Turn 1, Dark Ritual, Ebonblade Reaper. Turn 2, Children of Korlis, attack with reaper, sac children - potentially a 20-life swing.
Why wouldn't you just play Emrakul, the Aeons Torn on turn one with that hand, and take the life loss? I mean what is your opponent going to do with 1 mana anyway? Either they play 1 next turn, or you annihilate the first one and next turn he plays one.

I can't believe that no one else has mentioned this: You can use more then one at once. If you have four of them out, you can gain three times the life you lost on a turn. And, seeing as how its a common 1 drop, getting 4 of them isn't terribly hard (think Ranger of Eos)

The Rebel creature type is very sweet here, since these are so much better in multiples.

Underrated combo card. Try Bond of Agony and... That old one, what was it called? Ah yes, Cleansing. 4.5/5 Edit: I use these combos in my black white disruption deck. They work out well, cleansing really annoys people.

@Pixiecrack. Yeah that's pretty stupid. With the time warp ability, your going to swing and annihilate there lands. Who cares about 5 life left if they are going to have the same life total and no lands.

My life gain EDH deck is weak to Sorin Markov? Hmm I gain the life right back. Can get it back with Sun Titan and gets even better with Rhox Faithmender or Boon Reflection. Straight from Sorin Markov "For a player's life total to become 10, what actually happens is that the player gains or loses the appropriate amount of life."

It is a good life buyback. I suggest using it with Sanguine Bond and Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero to backfire dammage back to an opponent.

Turn 2, Children of Korlis, attack with reaper, sac children - potentially a 20-life swing.
easy turn 2 combo
1:plains -> korlis
2:forest, lotus petal -> channel -> emrakul -> sac korlis

I can't think of any 1 cost answers to Emrakul
EDIT
I guess there's Innocent Blood and Seal of Removal, I dunno why you would summon a creature at a cost of life when they have a Seal of Removal out but whatever
There are a few ways, most of them you are now both at five life
Does paying life as part of a casting cost cost (such as with Phyrexian Mana) count as "loss of life"?
If so, this would combo great with Immolating Souleater, especially with a Lifelink on it.
In Time Spiral.
The flavor. The flavor gets into my eyes.
This card is referencing Martyrs of Korlis for flavor.
(not that Griselbrand needs any help to win you the game...)
