And little by little, Jund Midrange comes roaring back.

This is absolutely perfect with Rakdos shenanigans, especially with Rakdos, Lord of Riots.

Sacrifice a creature? Nice! That's one less blocker/attacker for you to deal with.

Take the two damage? Do all the other stupid B/R things that require damage being done (for example, Rakdos reducing the amount of mana needed for creatures).

4.5/5. Best god of the set, imo, next to Xenagos.

@orzhov20 It is actually each OPPONENTS upkeep, so he doesn't hit you.

A 7/5 for four that acts as a suedo lily of the veil in jund midrange?

Ok, I've only played for 5 months, so please don't get mad at me for saying this but why is he so amazing? either he shocks your opponent, which people do to themselves all the time (see every single shock land) or their playing with a bunch of expendable creatures. is he liked because of his stats? that has to be it. otherwise, he's a Desecration Demon with a threat of 2 power instead of 6, who occasionally deals 7 extra damage. worst god so far.

Hi future person who laughs at this comment

@ boroski I knew it was opponents

Orzhov: it's good because they are already shocking themselves. Cuz you know, reducing someone's life total to zero is a decent wincon ;)

It's also well costed for it's effects and if it becomes a creature it swings for terrible damage.

Truthfully, I'd still play it if it was just a 4 mana enchantment with his global effect. The addition of a 7/5 indestructible seems pretty nuts.
In the original art, he was holding an electric guitar and he was on stage. \m/

Oh my God... So if they have no creatures out they automatically take 2...

Deliciously Rakdos.

Damage, creature removal, powerful, and not too expensive. Just what R/B wants in a card. Sure the opponent chooses, but either way it accomplishes something useful. Compliments aggro and many other decks. A solid example of a mythic. Shouldn't be too difficult to get the devotion cost either.

It needed to trigger for every opponent on your upkeep, so it could combo with the Lord of Riots. As is, it's more standard playable, but less useful flavorful.

The thing with Mogis is, he pretty much only works in an aggro deck. If you play Mogis in control, why wouldn't they just choose to take 2 damage every time? If you're control and you can stay alive for ten turns, then just play a Demon or an AEtherling or something, instead of Mogis.

This card's actually kinda nice. RB dumps their hand fast, so they shouldn't have too much trouble getting devotion running. If they don't, this is still a clock that's tough to deal with without Revoking it. He can actually finish the game while he's not a creature, unlike other gods.

I thought Mogis had the minotaur creature type from the second I looked at the card and didn't realize otherwise for a very long time. I feel bad now.

I think people are getting him mixed up when talking to orzhov20. What this is; is a one-sided Sulfuric Vortex that can not only provide card advantage, but comes attached to an indestructible 7/5. I wouldn't be too surprised if he saw fringe legacy play in BR burn decks due to being an impossible to get rid of Vortex that won't kill you.

Insane for casual multiplayer, and quite playable in a variety of devotion style decks. Consider the elementals from Shadowmoor for his devotion costs.

Anybody who says this is bad is either trolling or has no idea what they are saying. While unlikely to kill somebody with the 2 alone each turn, that shock can certainly add up and at the very least prove detrimental to decks running Lifegain. I see him more as a 7/5 indestructible for 4, which is absolutely insane. The fact that he will be doing something even if devotion is below 7 is just an added benefit.Don't get me wrong, if left unchecked, the damage or die effect is very good, especially in limited but potentially in constructed midrange-y decks as well. Playing this at the prerelease, I had a guy at 5 pay down to 3 and then die to Lightning Strike. That's part of what I like so much about this card. Things like Boros Reckoner, Guttersnipe, Cinder Elemental,Stormbreath Dragon and whatnot are big and urgent and demand answers quickly. 2 is small enough that it doesn't seem that urgent and is absolutely favorable to sacrificing creatures. Subtle but powerful and well-rounded.
I'm definitely going to have to give this a 4.5/5.

When I saw the text of this card, I was so disappointed that he didn't have the Minotaur creature type :(. Then again, if he was a minotaur creature type, ragemonger would make his super cheap.

Outside of limited formats, I can't see him being at all powerful. That said, the art is jaw-droppingly awesome. Can't wait to pick up a foil copy - you know it'll be sexy.

Amazing in a Rakdos, Lord of Riots EDH Deck! Especially with Vedalkan Orrery. Force ur opponents to choose between loosing their creatures or to open up the bloodgates for the demon himself.

This is how im going to use him in my red/black aggro deck.
Fill the deck with just quick duel mana drops like Rakdos Cackler, Goblin Deathraiders, Spike Jester and Fists of the Demigod

Turn 1: mountain, tap Rakdos Cackler
Turn 2: Swamp, tap out for Goblin Deathraiders
Turn 3: Mountain, tap for Fists of the Demigod on Goblin Deathraiders for a 5/3 first strike, trample, wither.
Turn 4: Swamp, tap out for an active Mogis, God of Slaughter
Turn 5: Another Fists of the Demigod on Mogis, God of Slaughter for a 9/7 indestructible, first strike, wither.

Granted this is a perfect opening hand and draws each turn. But on turn 5 that's a scary bored to look at. It could be a turn 5 win if your hitting him every turn. Sure you could kill the Goblin Deathraiders with a Doom blade or something. But every turn you will be dropping something to keep Mogis, God of Slaughter up and going.

I just opened up my fat pack for Born of the Gods today, and one of the cards I pulled was a FOIL one of these! I was so happy, especially since he's going in my rakdos psuedo-heroic aggro board control deck.

Anyone else think that this guy could work pretty well in some sort of Grixis control deck?
ArannisNalaar
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@EyesOfSyrus, none of your logic works.

First of all, hybrid mana symbols like those in Rackdos Cackler and Fists of the Demigod only count for 1 devotion because they are one symbol. Thus that example you gave would only be a total of 6 devotion.

Secondly, Doom Blade can't kill Goblin Deathraiders because it is black. Doom Blade only kills nonblack creatures.

Also don't forget that if Mogis, God of Slaughter loses his creature type, any Enchant creature auras will fall off and go to the graveyard.

MOGIS sounds awfully familiar with Aries, Lord of War.

Imwhatufear
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@jimmynoobplayer it would be to much to do that because it is not just the red/black hybrid that counts it is every hybrid that includes red or black so 9 total acceptable mana symbols to possibly count toward devotion want a fast win in black red to use as an example here is one:

On the play

Turn 1: pay 2 life play blood crypt untapped cast tormented hero
Turn 2: play a mountain cast madcap skills gain 1 life opponent loses 1 life attack for 5 damage
Turn 3: play a mountain play boros reckoner attack with tormented hero for 5 more
Turn 4: play a swamp attack with tormented hero and boros reckoner for 8 damage cast active mogis
Pass turn with oponent at 1 life they die If they don't have a creature to sacrifice and if not you will be swinging for 15 on a turn 5 yes I am aware this would require a nice opening hand and an opponent keeping a bad hand but what example of slaughter doesn't ?

@EyesOfSyrus why not spike jester over goblin deathraiders? And drop demigod of revenge turn after and you're good on the devotion just between the two haste is more of a rakdos thing than trample anyway also xenagos isn't the only one to become a god in this set there a certain bad ass that reached god hood (and I'm sure this good ass he's been searching for comes out in the next set and it's gonna be G/B

Thanks to Demons, Dragons, Enchantments, and 2- and 3-drop Red Creatures, this is by far going to be the Easiest and Most Painful God to Manifest out of all 15, which I say even before seeing the last 5.

Demigod of Revenge is one of the least imaginative ways to do it. (And more effective than Divinity of Pride if your deck is managing to run a full 4 and a nice Reanimation Trick!

Rakdos, the Defiler will probably be one of the more often-seen ways to do it in EDH. I think that card finishes the job all on it's own as well?

Anyway, literally, most of the cards you want to play, simply two-card combo with Mogis for his Devotion count. Black-Red is more Mana-Dense than just about anything.

I know, I know, it's said too much in reference to ''put next to really big guns in Red and Black", but ACTUALLY, this IS a card that Kaalia of the Vast players may want to diversify into: It's really important for a deck that has a critical strength, to cover it so it doesn't become a critical-weakness. I don't know how much Anti-Tribal (not just hate a specific Tribe-- anti-Tribal- let's you choose which Tribe you Hate) hate there is, but really almost ANY amount that is ever printed could become a HUGE problem for Kaalia decks.

I've frequently suggested Titans as something that people might enjoy as considerations, but Gods may work much better for what Kaalia Decks want. You wouldn't want to ''waste'' too many cards doing something off the beaten path of what your General tells you to do, but if you see two in particular that SCREAM at you "Whoah, this would actually eat face", well that's different.

I think Mogis and Athreos will do this for Kaalia.

Rageblood Shaman is responsible for special effects, Ragemonger takes the drums and Oracle of Bones should be the manager.

Mogis already kicked Rakdos's Band and their hitsingle Rain of Gore out of the charts.

If there were room for reminder text, Mogis's text would include, "As long as your devotion to black and red is less than seven, Mogis isn't a creature. (Each Black, Red, and Black or Red in the mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to black and red.)" That would clear up people's confusion about hybrid mana costs. It's a pity there isn't enough room. "I'm just a simple editor, I canna change the laws of typography, captain!"

@Imwhatufear: Oops, I'm stupid. You're right, any hybrid with red or black would count, not just Black or Red.

@Quotations By that logic Archangel of Thune and Baneslayer Angel are bad because you can doom blade and go for the throat them. And Emrakul is horrible because you can Terminus him for just one White. And not to mention Phrexian Obliterator can so easily be dark betrayaled with just one Black That list can go on and on.

@SorianSadaskan He is kinda Aries. Mogis is twins with Iroas, god of victory (W/R). Mogis represents the "horrors"/savagry of war. Iroas represents the glory and honor of war. So yeah, they both fit into Aries

Is this card also indestructible if you dont have enough devotion? Or can you destroy it then?
D1234
★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
This card would be awesome in EDH if the rules for a commander game were "Whenever a commander deals 21 or more damage to a player, that player loses the game". That way, the opponent(s) would have to choose to either sacrifice a creature or take 2 points of commander damage. It's still a good card though.

@Koenneo: The card is still indestructible because only the card type changes, not the text. However, there's nothing that stops you from using a card like Erase on it, and you can still use it on him if he's a creature because he never stops being an enchantment.

@D1234 If they changed it to any damage instead of combat damage, everyone would just run Heartless Hidetsugu and a pile of Gut Shot and Pyretic Ritual type cards. Turn 6 win (or sooner with ramp).
Pretty sure he's actually the reason they made it combat-only.

I find it troublesome that this block continues to reinforce the (in my opinion dead wrong) notion that Black out-toughnesses White. Mogis and Iroas are brothers, whose stats are nearly identical... but the White brother just inexplicably isn't as tough? Erebos just arbitrarily gets 1 additional point of toughness over Heliod, all other things being equal? Why the White hatred? Stop the madness!

Quite a few of the gods that they released and are spoiling interestingly fit well in a grixis control deck. Mogis has the ability to kill enemy creatures or punch people in the face, Keranos can draw you extra cards or punch people in the face, Erebos can draw you extra cards, and Thassa can get threats through as well as well as generate card advantage. The other gods that fit into control colors really don't help a creatureless control deck. Ephara, and atheros are useless unless you have creatures to play. I haven't looked at other cards that would work in these colors, but from this perspective we may see grixis control as sphinxes revelation and other ravinca cards rotate out of standard.

Mogis fanatics, I'm warning you, do not look to your God for guidance against the Golgari. Especially not the Mimeoplasm in commander. Several times in my Mimeoplasm deck to solve a board state I have coordinated with my allies to kill one of my creatures. It's like fighting Sheoldred except the Sheoldred player decided they didn't feel like making me sac a creature when it would hurt me.
