Amazing Combo with Lotleth troll for discard engine.

I like to imagine that "scavenging" +1+1 counter is just picking the skull up and setting on the new creature's shoulder.

Interesting. It's basically Arcbound Worker in B/G. 1/1 creature that dies, and you can stick a +1/+1 counter on something else. However, the Worker can only select artifact creatures, and Slitherhead's +1/+1 counter can be delayed if you don't have any other creatures. Not a bad 1-drop at all!
Actually, huh, I just realized you can use Scavenge to put +1/+1 counters on any creature, not just your own. Might be a plausible trick against Unleash decks.
Lastly: I'm going to ask the resident card modifier artist to make me a Waylon Slithers.

I put in my personal vote for GREATEST MTG CARD EVER.

Reasons I love this card: 1) The humor in this card probably trumps all the others in this set. It's a skull-squid and that flavor text is priceless. 2) it's a 1/1 for 1 with a split cost, making it playable in 2 different colors. It's ability is pretty sweet yet it's not a game-changer. 3) it's a zombie, so it gets to bask in all the zombie-love from the last block.
5/5 from me

This is a good example of a great card. Scavenge {0} is impressive on a T1 drop. When you need that +1/+1 counter later it can really help. I'd personally let it sleep in the yard for most of the game then bring it out on a big beater when my opponent least expects it.

Odd how this gets Scavenge for free while every other Scavenge cost seems to be operating on the policy of "If they can cast it, it isn't big enough."

Cutest Golgari card ever, and one of my current favorite cards of all time. It's perfect. This is probably the best use of Scavenge, and it gets better with Lotleth Troll and Corpsejack Menace.

I EVEN KNOW YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL. ONE DAY I LOOKED AT YOU IN THE BATH ROOM. MAYBE I WILL BREAK SOMETHING AND TELL EVERYBODY IT WAS YOU. THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP ME. BUT GUESS WHAT? I like the flavor and the Scavenge {0} but it seems to me Wizards just made this too much weaker than the rest of the cycle. I'd say making it a 2/1 would be too powerful, but giving it Reach or something couldn't hurt. Especially with Judge's Familiar in the cycle.

May as well slap it in self-mill: when it goes over, you can scavenge it for free! Plus, it makes a nice one drop anyway, and is one of the cheapest things you can use to turn off Treacherous Pit-Dweller.

Ferlord: You basterd, I was just going to type that. Now I'm going to have to make a Thing deck with Anthroplasm, Vesuvian Doppleganger, Morphling, Polymorph, and Metamorphosis. is tempting for Transmute and Cosmic Horror.
I'm putting in a bid for nicknaming this card- since Necropotence has already taken 'The Skull',
This shall now be known as "The Dark Mark", because Green+Black is as Slytherin-colored as MTG colors can get, and because the Golgari are more Death Eaters than the Death Eaters themselves. After all, their new Signature Move, Abrupt Decay, matches well with the Death Eaters' spell- Avada Kedavra!! 3:)
I want to somehow get a Snake Token with Scavenge, so I can control a Skull eating a Snake :P

It's a 1/1 for a hybrid mana. He's a free +1/+1 counter-giving sorcery if he's in your graveyard. His flavor text is great.
All those together make him a must-have for my green decks. But the one thing that really makes me want him?
His creature type. Plant Zombie is just freaking hilarious.

Oh sh!t; the Divider Heads from Dead Space have invaded Ravnica! RUN FOR YOUR PENG TREASURES!
I predict that this guy is going to see a lot of play in standard and just play in general, even with the most vicious piece of graveyard hate printed since Bojuka Bog. (Seriously, F*CK Bojuka Bog) A Loltroll with a steady supply of Slitherheads is about as good as an Arcbound Ravager with a steady diet of Arcbound Stingers and Arcbound Wrokers, and that combo was good enough to win tournaments. Just getting rid of your opponents creatures won't do you a whole lot of good when that creature's power and toughness just spread to another one, and it's that this guy does it for so cheap that makes him so good.
And seeing as how the Golgari got the other half ofDoubling Season that Parallel Lives didn't cover as a 4/4 for four, and anyone not running a playset of these in their deck is either out of their mind or playing EDH.

Would have loved to see this guy as a 2/1 with a B/G hybrid scavenge cost instead. It's a great scavenge card, but in decks that might use it (such as with Splinterfright) scavenging it does almost nothing most of the time, and if you have multiple Splinters out, it actually hurts more than helps. Still, one of the few worthwhile cards with the "scavenge" ability.

Umm, Splinterfright decks wouldn't use this... it has no particular synergy with that creature to be honest. Self-mill might like it to grab the odd counter, but really it's meant to be a chump blocker that provides a small permanent boost later on.
Also, Skullbriar would love this guy. The whole damn mechanic, in fact.

When Rakdos is finally on the defensive (running out of steam) and attempting to NOT unleash their guys...using Slitherhead as a combat trick on the OPPONENTS BLOCKER for the kill is definitely a great option. Especially for .
In commander +1/+1 counters are rampant (i.e. Karador, Ghost Chieftan & Skullbriar, The Walking Grave as psychichobo & others mentioned). This could also be easily used against any UNDYING "duderguys."

Ironically probably going to go in my simic deck. I might as well make a Ravinica B/U/G deck...haha bugs...they're trying to tell us something.
Also, things like Joraga warcaller could use this. Or basically anything with double strike. You can also, if I'm not mistaken, use scavenge as a combat trick. Which I think is great. Too bad most scavenge cards are overcosted.
I am honestly surprised no one has mentioned how Jarad's Orders was made for this card. Search for your important creature and slip Slitherhead into your graveyard.

@Nucleon: Another advantage over Arcbound Worker is that this card never has to be in play to use its ability -- if it's discarded to your graveyard from your library or your hand, you can still take advantage of it. That works well in Dredge or Madness decks, for instance.

The opponent will find it difficult to notice this is also anti-Undying tech. You can scavenge onto their Geralf's Messenger and keep it from coming back; which is awesome.

This has done wonders in my zombie deck with Unbreathing Horde. seriously. 4 of these in the grave means you've got a nearly unkillable 8/8 for 2B. now THAT is mana well spent.

Just a wonderful card. Lotleth Troll works just great alongside, but even without the cruel discard then scavenge mechanic, he's a solid little chump blocker that nobody is scared to lose.

This card would be a good one drop for any zombie deck really. I could easily see using these early game on my Phylactery Lich's. Plenty of ways for me to sac creatures in a zombie deck. Definitely need to get the 3 more I need to complete a set of these.

No combat tricks. Sorry.
The card itself is cool, just about the only playable Scavenge IMO. Reminds me of Basking Rootwalla.

Withstand Death because we know how hard it is to kill it. Simic Signet because there aren't opposing borderposts yet. Noble Heirarch for further mana fixing, maybe some Bond Beetlesto insure my copies are better, Wonder so my copies fly, Wall of Frost cause it's Antartica, Young Wolf for the husky that refused to die, Brainstorm because of poly, Show and Tell, and maybe Hunted Wumpus, although I have no clue how that fits.
Now that's a deck.
