Cool as heck, if only somewhat functional in duels.

It's green. You can get this out turn four, and have him pumped in turn six. A great addition in a ramp deck.

What I love about him is that he's useful both mid and late game.

He's ok in limited, mostly because a 4/4 for five is still acceptable, though more often than not he won't become 8/8 or die before or the moment he does.

For constructed, he is too slow.

I'd say great in limited.

Just and observation:
There's no land ramp in this set.
I would have loved this card soooo much more in Limited if they had it.
Guess I'll settle with an 8/8 Trample on T8. :P

A little too situational for my tastes

FYI: If you're playing this guy you're PROBABLY playing green. 4/4 for 5 is only barely below the curve. Even though it'll be rotated out soon, you can still do arbor elf + verdant haven + Farseek ramp for a short while for very fast ramp. If you're already doing other land ramp (Into the Wilds looks like a contender), he fits in perfectly at a very affordable rarity.

Not a card to build around, but a card to put into a deck looking for just this sort of thing.

And, @infernox10, a 4/4 for 5 is more than acceptable in draft, gets around quite a bit of damage and -1/-1 removal. So long as he doesn't get doom bladed, he causes quite a bit of wreckage even before going super saiyan.

5/5 is about on curve for a 5 mana green creature, so a 4/4 needs a pretty good ability to make it playable. Does Woodborn Behemoth pass this test? In short, yes — so long as you're playing with more than two people. In a duel this won't pull its weight, but in EDH (among other multiplayer formats) it can easily be an 8/8 trample before anyone even thinks of killing it.

I feel like he could transform with six lands instead of 8 and be more balanced. And I normally argue against power creep, but I think this would be fair.
Or maybe just change his casting cost to 1GreenGreenGreen, which would kind of make sense flavorfully. He is, after all, ... an elemental made of trees.
