Sad thing is, this is going to see most of its play in RDW.

Might be a fun card, or it might make infect decks into a horror. Time will tell.

So it's now possible in theory to swing for 10 infect on turn two.

All you need is a Glistener Elf with two of these and a couple Giant Growths.

You'd need a lucky hand, but not that lucky. Just the idea that you can get to 10 poison on turn 2 without any especially devious combos is slightly disturbing. And awesome.

Definately going to see play in infect and RDW.

I personally am going to put one in every deck I make, regardless of how inappropriate it is. Potentially having a giant growth in hand all the time, even when tapped out and not playing green is just too much fun.

Holy jeez, this has Limited applications. Save your best creature from a burn spell, manipulate the crap out of the combat phase, or punch through for the last couple points of damage (infect or regular). I would LOVE to have multiples of this guy in my deck; your opponent will almost never be able to make the right decision, even when you're sitting on zero mana. Heck, this could easily go as early as 4th pick.

The first time I saw this, it looked like a failed Giant Growth. As others have pointed out, though, with the right opening hand, this thing wins games in four turns or less.

Turn 1: Mountain, Goblin Guide
Turn 2: Mountain, Mutagenic Growth, Mutagenic Growth, Assault Strobe, Assault Strobe,
ATTACK phase........Game Over.

I'd much rather have a kicked Vines of Vastwood for 1 more mana to get an extra +2/+2, plus shroud effect.

@guitargamer79 - "Turn 2: Mountain, Mutagenic Growth, Mutagenic Growth, Assault Strobe, Assault Strobe,
ATTACK phase........Game Over."

That doesn't work. Multiple instances of double strike on the same creature don't stack; they're redundant. There's no such thing as "doublest" or "double double strike" because there are only two combat damage steps, the first strike step and the normal combat damage step. No matter how many instances of double strike a creature may have, it will only hit twice at most.

Free pump on lifelink creatures?
The more I think of it the more I love and hate the idea of Phyrexian Green mana. If ever there was a time for the players to stumble on crazy stuff that R&D had overlooked, this would be it. Being able to ignore color requirements by paying life is something I never thought I would see.
This, Mental misstep, phyrexian metamorph, porcelain legionnaire, surgical extraction... it makes me happy, and kind of scares me a little at the same time.

I thought this card was pretty sweet when I first saw it, but every time I've had it in hand (admittedly, only in limited decks), I've always wished it was a Giant Growth instead. +2/+2 just isn't big enough a lot of the time (though obviously they couldn't make it +3/+3, or it would be a strictly better Giant Growth).

At first glance I didn't think it was that good, since it's only +2/+2. But then I ran 3 in my prerelease deck and watched it work its magic. When attacking, sometimes it's great to trade 2 life of yours for 2 life of your opponent's. Also, paying 2 life to dodge some removal or pull off some combat tricks and take out an opponents creature is great. Not even Snuff Out can match that efficiency. Plus, once you play 1 or 2 your opponent starts getting nervous. Very flexible, can go in any color deck. 5/5 from me.

Reminds me of Rouse. That said, this is a much better card, and I'm sure it'll see play in infect decks.

Edit: It's also fun when you draft these with Vault Skirge

Phyrexian Mana is broken, I wonder how long it will be before these insane 1drop cards are all banned.
Better in most cases than the cards they are based off. Noxious Revival vs Reclaim anyone?

Now I need this much 0 mana to kill you. And loosing life? I am phyrexian, I don't give a rats merry behind what my life total is as long as you are DEAD.

Sure, because something that pumps infectors instantly for a zero mana cost won't ever become broken.

It doesn't take much for a turn-two win to happen with this card. In fact, this card makes my infect deck have a consistent turn 2-4 win. Best case scenarios usually play out like this:

Turn 1: Forest, Glistener Elf
Turn 2: Swamp, Groundswell, Mutagenic Growth, Mutagenic Growth, Tainted Strike

It's happened often enough to say that it's more than luck, but it doesn't happen often enough to say "Yeah, this deck consistently wins in two turns." If no Glistener Elf, even Llanowar Elves will do the job, or even a Birds of Paradise if you really need to. An Ichorclaw or Plague Myr will probably do the job too, just a turn late, though. Regardless, a Mutagenic Growth can be an invaluable card, especially with its low and potentially even lower mana cost.

With m13, Rancor is here. I'd love to see this happen:

Turn 1:
Forrest, Glistener Elf
Turn 2:
Moutain, Rancor. Assault Strobe, Mutagenic Growth, Mutagenic Growth.
