Man, there've been some AWESOME clone variants recently; Phyrexian Metamorph, Phantasmal image, and now this guy! I'm guessing this guy will take out more than his fair share of opposing titans.

Probably the best trope translation from Innistrad. Very flavorful, and in a way that makes a lot of sense in the Magic multiverse.

They soooo should have put a goatee on the evil twin in the art

It should have put a goatee counter on the creature it copied. Now THAT would have been flavorful.

So at the "cost" of adding one more color we get a really crazy Clone? I love the flavor but I feel like this should've been 5 CMC.

@Lord_of_Tresserhorn: It's entirely possible that some people are so legendary that their evil twin must kill them immediately, but then an epic confrontation ensues leaving both of them dead.

But my evil twin is the good one. . . . .

Edit: got one at the prerelease. I immediatly sharpied a goatee on it. Sadly had to trade it, was offered a foil of the new mythic dragon whats-it-name.

Traded for new one. Brought out the sharpie. Hopefully people will leave my "ruined" cards this time.

@Gcrudaplaneswalker: It comes in as a 0/0 and is a stillbirth.

This is another one of those shapeshifters where I think it is totally inane, flavor-wise, that the legend rule applies! Why can't a legend have a long-lost evil twin bent on replacing them??

EDIT: A guy at the pre-release used this to copy my Voiceless Spirit and then kill it (as it was the only flyer around, it was a good target choice). Therefore, I decided an exorcism was urgently needed! :D

The look on his face was priceless. Even the judge standing next to him was amused.

The flavor is all over my desk.
Holy cow, this is an amazing creature. It comes in as a copy of whatever you want, and then kills that creature. Oh, you have a titan? Me too! But mine is better! Mine kills yours. And then you.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee~

Almost a direct counter to Essence of the Wild. Gives you your own 6/6 factory and allows you to target all the tokens with his ability. One of my favorite plays at pre-release.

I lost a game in the pre-release because of this card and snapcaster mage. He had copied my activated angelic overseer, and then played the snapcaster (the only human in his deck) to activate his copy, bringing the game to a standstill, 'til I pulled a kill spell.
Promptly after casting it, he cackling counterparted the snapcaster.
It was a rather lulzy game, to say the least.

William Wilson

"You have conquered, and I yield, Yet, henceforward art thou also dead-- Dead to the World, to Heaven, and to Hope! In me didst thou exist-- and, in my death, see by this image, which is thine own, how utterly thou hast murdered thyself."

I read a short story by Edgar Allen Poe today that reminded me very much of this card

4.5/5 for being a more adaptable version of Clone. You can create a copy of a creature you control that you wouldn't mind having another of (Darksteel Colossus, anyone?) or creating a copy of a creature your opponent controls that's more than an annoyance ("You think your Carnifex Demon is pretty cool, huh? Well, take THIS!)

"Anything you can do, I can do better...."

I'm going to have to inquire as to what happens when you throw Evil Twin on a Vesuvan Doppleganger. I don't think there's a way to make it able to switch creatures every turn and retain its kill ability, but it would be funny.

Of course, you can always just bounce the guy and recast him. It's not like blue has any spells that do that or anything.

I love this guy. He's a clone and creature removal all in one little package. I put him in almost every black/blue deck I make. Playing him against huge creatures with no removal defence - Lord of Extinction, Platinum Emperion - is a treat. But my favorite moment of Innistrad cards had to be when my friend used his stupid Fauna Shaman/Elvish Piper to get out a Blightsteel Colossus.
Me: Evil Twin. Cackling Counterpart.
Next Turn: Flashback Cackling Counterpart

I do love this card.
Excellent clone variant.

Wonder if this works:
Opponent animates a land (eg/ Vivify on a forest), cast Evil Twin, targeting Forest.
Now you have a Forest Evil Twin, right?
Would Evil Twin's destroy ablilty be able to target the forest next turn (after Vivify comes off), or would it, as I believe, be unable to as the ability states "creatue with the same name"?

Anyway, worth splahing black in my blue red theft/copy deck.

I absolutely LOVE this card. It actually won me a game last night. I managed to draw this guy on the turn before my opponent was about to kill me with his Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. I copied his Mikey, taking out his only other blocker, and managed to finish the game.

And then there's the time when i copied my Cryptoplasm, which was a copy of my opponent's Sun Titan...

So if this copied an undying/persist creature, when it dies, does it get to come back with a +1/+1 or -1/-1 counter? If so, does it come back as a copy of anything? Because if so, if you had an undying and a persist creature in play, you could play this and alternate what it comes back as for a casual combo deck

It would be interesting to copy someone's legendary creature. The legend rule would apply, and both creatures would be removed, right? Or would it be that their creature was removed, since it was in play first, and you got to keep your evil twin copy on the battlefield?

It would also be interesting to copy Gideon Jura while he is in creature mode =)

I was always confused by the card art before. At first glance, it looked like the guy in the back was the Evil Twin creeping up ready to slit the guy's throat. Now I see the dark expression on the one in the front's face, and see the guy in the back doing a double-take at someone who looks just like him.

What happens if I use the following two abilities to copy some non-creature permanent. Is Evil Twin still a creature. If not, do I have to turn him into a creature to activate his ability?

Liquimetal Coating

Karn, Silver Golem (or anything with a similar effect, can't figure out how to autocard on text)

I'm really exited about this card and his potential with Infinite Reflection. My thought is, put him in a deck with some Graft creatures, have him enter the battlefield not targeting anything, slap the Reflection on him, and poof-- now all your Memnites and Ornithopters enter as copies of whatever they want, probably with a +1/+1 counter or two, with the capability to destroy the thing they copied. It could be really amazing and hysterical if it could be pulled off without a hitch.

I recently ran a deck with this, desecration demon, and dungeon geist.
Did fairly well. And got so much hate I can't use it anymore. Pity.

Doesn't have a goatee. 0.5/5

But seriously, if you're running Clone or Metamorph in a U/B deck and want a side order of non-Legendary copy/removal, this guy makes a solid replacement.

I run this in an Esper Spirits deck as extra "copies" of my Drogskol Captains, but sometimes I can get up to some fun shenanigans depending on what my opponent is playing. Some that come to mind include copying a Hellrider and swinging with my Lingering Souls tokens for the win, or copying my opponent's Restoration Angel to flicker my Obzedat, Ghost Council for damage. Also a fun answer to Thragtusk.

As of the new legend rule, this guy just got a lot better in EDH.
Previously, all clone variants were utilised more than you'd expect in EDH to be able to kill almost without fail the opponent's general. They can't do that now, but Evil Twin can (barring hexproof/indestructibility). In fact, he does it again and again until he gets killed, locking out your opponent's general very effectively and possibly giving you a powerhouse creature too.

This guy suddenly makes a LOT more sense, now that the M14 rules changes have been brought to light.

All copy effects (Clone, Rite of Replication, etc.) used to also effectively say "Kill target legend". Now they don't. But this one? This one still does.

What if Evil Twin's ability were copied by Havengul Lich ?
EvilDarkVoid
★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (2 votes)
@Nocpas: Doesn't work. Evil Twin doesn't explicitly have the ability to destroy something of the same name as it, instead it gains the ability when it enters the battlefield copying something. Since Havengul Lich's ability to gain other abilities triggers when you cast the Evil Twin, that means the Evil Twin has yet to hit the field and hasn't gained the ability to destroy something with its name.
