NASTY ART! Looks like it should be an Alestorm cover, am I right? Regardless, this is a brutal card. A cost-efficient creature that pumps an army AND gives debateably one of the best abilities in the game to all of them? This thing has gotta see constructed play at some point.

I am buying a playset PURELY for the art. Cheap lord, granting +1/+1 AND Hexproof, on a 2/2 body with evason all for 1 Blue White

Definately a 5/5

Came a wee bit late after Kamigawa

That being said, this makes every spirit and Changelings practically invincible, just make sure you protect him.

First i see the uncommon zombie that gives other zombies +1/+1...now i see this. They truly are lowering the standards for creatures that give other creatures(w/ a certain creature type) +1/+1.

This guy is 100% the coolest of the cycle. I saw the art before the set was fully spoiled and was thinking "What is that guy?" On top of the wicked art, hexproof is awesome, and two of them out makes your whole ghost army effectively invincible, who's going to let a few puny blockers stand in the way?

Commander Review: it's a shame. There is only one Commander that is both blue and white and a spirit. And that one already got hexproof. All other legendary spirits have other colors. So, this guy will never protect a Commander. And I can't think of a certain reason why you'd want to build a spirit tribal deck in Commander without having a fitting Commander to lead it. Add to that that it's just a 2/2 and you will see why this card will show up in Commander quite rarely.

Every time I managed to play this guy at prerelease, he began the primary focus of my opponent. Just having him down with a couple Doomed Travelers or something completely terrified anyone I played. Cannot WAIT to get more than the one I pulled. This is the real deal, folks. Look out: Standard is about to get rocked.

@sarroth It's actually a four-of cycle. Immerwolf is the werwolf tribal captain, weirdly enough.

@Lord_of_the_Real Chameleon Spirit is an Illusion actually. True story.

This card is *insane*.
Best lord of an already amazing cycle.

This guy makes Moorland Haunt even nastier than it already is.

I strongly suspect this, as well as Call to the Kindred, are the reasons the Spirit tribe is rather small.
They're still going to dominate Standard, small tribe or not, when they have backup like this.

Wizards is truly remarkable. How can one card make me so ecstatically enthusiastic, AND so....let DOWN?!

Innistrad block was about Horror Tropes, right?
This card needs immediate errata on the type line:

Ghost Pirate

Was a Scooby Doo reference REALLY too much to ask for Wizards? You DO realize this was your golden opportunity to print a card with 'Creature- Ghost Pirate' or even 'Creature- Ghost Pirate Zombie' on the typeline, and have it WORK?!

sigh...this is what sharpies are for, I guess...

I pulled a shiny one of these as well as another one at the pre-release. I now have a play set of four and have a crazy deck combo using Back from the Brink, Mirror-Mad Phantasm, and Laboratory Maniac. It's pretty cool to get these out of your graveyard for their CMC through Back from the Brink. Using those three cards, I create a token of Laboratory Maniac out of my graveyard... then I create a token of Mirror-Mad... the token is shuffled into my library, thus killing it. You'll have to search your library for a card named Mirror-Mad, but alas, you will not find it. You are now fully milled and will win the game as long as Laboratory Maniac stays out. Pretty cool, right?

TL;DR
My cool combo idea, and this fits in perfect.

The oracle wording says Chameleon Spirit is an Illusion Sprit.

On another note, Spirit decks have another great 3-drop to add to the list. W/U Spirits are shaping up to be super aggressive.
EDIT: I pulled 3 of these at a DKA draft (and 2 Increasing Devotion), with 4 Shriekgeists. Needless to say, the deck I made dominated.

I am SO using this one in my W/U Spirit deck!

It's the new Spirit version of Scion of Oona! (Though when get to I use it, it'll be like Scion of Oola!)

(That last part was a joke. Scion of Oola isn't a real card, only Scion of Oona.)

Is it just me or does this guy seem a tad bit unfair in how well he combos off of copies of himself? Wouldn't dare go off saying he's broken, just I know how awesome Hexproof can be after playing Illusion tribal and this seems like that taken to a whole other level.

Ladies and Gentlemen!

Today we have two candidates vying for your votes to become Supreme Spirit Overlord! The one who slew unholy fiends in life, and continues to do so with his trusty angel in death, we present to you...The Geist of Saint Traft!
And next we have the one who by his mere presence gives Spirits the Multiverse over, a new lease on un-life,and renewed vigour, purpose and power , please welcome...Drogskol Captain!

Your opening statements, Gentlemen!
Saint Traft: I promise to continue to fight boldly along side my fellow spirits, with my beautiful Angel by my side!
Angel: Aawww, Traft...you're so sweet.
Captain: TO ME SPIRITS! (Spirit army shouts): DROGSKOL CAPTAIN!!!

And now Gentlemen, you may begin the debate.

This is *the* limited bomb. I opened him from the first pack, and instantly decided to force draft spirits. This thing became an instant target for my opponents --they even into the maw of helled it. But when I got to play around with him, he really made the clock go fast for my opponents. I landed on a good position because of this beast here.

I really love the captain cycle in Dark Ascension. But the one thing that bugs me is this: why didn't we get a W/G Human captain and a R/G Werewolf captain to complete the cycle?

EDIT: Forgot that Immerwolf is the R/G captain for werewolves.

Is it just me who thinks hexproof is kind of a degenerate mechanic? I can handle shroud because it can be as much a hindrance as a benefit, but cards which are unblockable or untargetable really shouldn't have game-changing effects like this. The Captain here isn't the worst because you can just shock him, but man does stuff like Invisible Stalker or Troll Ascetic make me upset.
Banekiller
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@ wulfsten

It is a fairly rare mechanic as well, and, quite honestly, is only effective against heavy kill decks. It does nothing against sweeps, and those are the majority of what most people use. I, for one, would generally put a mizzium mortars in my deck over a ultimate price any day, due to its sweeping overload, and I would rather have a sever the bloodline over any other kill card, because even though it is more expensive, it sweeps. Thus, hexproof is generally ineffective. I can see where you would dislike it, assuming you use a burn/kill control deck, because it directly counters those decks, but, in the end, it does not have a significant impact on most strategies.

My favorite captain of the set! Better watch out if two of these suckers hit the battlefield it can just ruin your day. The spirit tribal is just gigantic so the possibility's of this card are endless, I personally like combining with Latch Seeker and Windborn Muse. If you needed a excuse to make your Drogskol Reaver even more dumb, heres your ticket. Fantastic tribal booster and boy do I love some tribal beat down. 4.75/5

Stromkirk Captain
Immerwolf
Drogskol Captain
Diregraf Captain

Tribal Support: This is where things really hurt for the old captain. Spirits have the worst support of the tribes of Innistrad, and it really shows. There are only 51 Spirit creatures in Standard as of M14, and only 34 of those creatures are in-colour with Drogskol Captain. Although there are a few alternative ways to create spirit tokens, for the most part you'll be hard pressed to build a workable army out of the lot. With pseudo lords like Battleground Geist and Gallows Warden, the prospects of supporting this already-weak tribe don't look good.

Buff Ability: On the other end of the spectrum is the captain's buff. Hexproof is arguably one of the best abilities in MTG today, and the idea of giving it to an entire army is exciting. The standard +1/+1 boost is also much more significant in spirits, which are generally low-stat Flyers who can really make use of the support. Although the real challenge of using the captain will be finding him an army, you can be certain that once he has one, it will be very difficult to get rid of. Notably, this is one of the few captains whose buff ability can be used to support itself; with two Drogskol Captains on the field at the same time, both will be Hexproof and very difficult to remove.

Solo Ability: As previously stated, Flying is a very common ability amongst spirits, and this one is no exception. While this can seem fairly unimportant, having a common ability allows the weaker Spirit tribe to generate some extra power from enchantments such as Favorable Winds. In the case of Spirit tokens, Intangible Virtue could also be used for additional support.

Balanced, undersupported, but fun: 3.5/5
