What if you're targeting a legendary Creature such as Rakka Mar? Would the Legend rule come into affect? Or does this ability simply copy the base power and toughness, color and converted mana cost of the card?

They would both die by legend rule

I often times use Shapesharer as a Legend killer, especially in EDH :)

Can be a very useful card. I scored a win against my friend's Pandemonium combo when, at 6 life, i played this and copied his Nova Chaser before the Pandemonium ability resolved, dealing 10 damage with it. Also fun with power creatures like Raven Guild Master and should never be played without other changelings.

109.2. If a spell or ability uses a de***ion of an object that includes a card type or subtype, but doesn't include the word "card," "spell," "source," or "scheme," it means a permanent of that card type or subtype on the battlefield.

There are other shapeshifters (can't recall which at the moment) that can grant creature types. Make your opponent's creature a shapeshifter, turn them into their legend, kill two of their creatures at once.

Anyone else looking forward to using this with Innistrad's Evil Twin?

Why are they just sitting there letting their fish dry out?

Similarly, you can use this as a follow-up to Crib Swap, to kill the token you gave them and a legend.

Is Shapesharer fishing with a net made out of its dick?

I shied away from this guy at first, since it cost a decent bit to activate his ability, and it only lasts a single turn. I was wrong to underestimate him like that though. His true strength is realized in multiplayer, where you have a wide variety of options to chose from, which he can become a copy of at instant speed, as you need it. Not an efficient offensive threat generally, but a very strong reactive control piece with stronger utility as your opponents play stronger things. His main downside is that he will already be chilling on the board before you can use his copy ability (unless you pull off some kind of flash combo or whatever), so your opponent has the opportunity to work around him if they are able. He deserves his current 4/5 in my opinion.

I found a lot of use in this guy in my Quest for Ula's Temple deck. He's the cheapest Leviathan in the game that I can drop him on turn 2 after Quest and he can provide a great defense considering I can use him to block just about anything that swings at me. After Quest gets its three counters, he can become a Stormtide Leviathan, Nemesis of Reason, or I can swing with him and after blockers and stuff have been declared, I can get him to copy Grozoth for a 9/9 beatstick to get around the defender. This thing is sweet. 4.5/5

So many people underestimated this guy... He shine especially in multiplayer games. Some of the cards I have tried with him, which proved to be a huge success, would be Vigor, Nacatl War-Pride, Fathom Mage, Master Biomancer, Biovisionary (this combo is really troll) Giant Adephage. There are tons of great combo's with him.

The problem is to get the mana needed for the somewhat costly effect - some solutions, which have been mentioned, is to use him in an elemental deck along with Smokebraider + Nova Chaser and Flamekin Harbinger. The activated ability from Smokebraider allows for cheap usage of his copy ability.

He could likewise mesh well with cards such as Hamletback Goliath since he would gain x+1/+1 counters as well when a creature enters the battlefield - these counters wont leave once he return to his normal shape at the next turn! This is also why I believe he fill in extremely well in a Simic deck which features cards such as Vigor + Gyre Sage + Fathom Mage + Master Biomancer (currently playtesting such deck which also features the infamous Nacatl War-Pride) - my reasoning behind this is that once he gain counters he can be transformed into various Simic sources such as the cards that allow for more mana, card draw, protection and offensive moves - Gyre Sage especially makes it somewhat easy to use his ability since the G mana gained from the card can fill in as the collourless payment.

I encourage you all to try grab one of these fellows in a deck that features U combined with any other colour since he allow for some cool plays! :)

Apparently this guy can't be used with Sheoldred's triggered ability since the beginning phase or the beginning of your turn happens before your untap and upkeep phase. Shame. Didn't know that.

Volrath the Fallen is a great target for this thing's ability.
