.___. Still cute, but... The old art was cuter! x3

Good to see this being reprinted. Wonderful card.

I might play 4 of these just for that artwork, even if there have been more efficient creatures since printed.

Stunning art. Other wise I don't get why this is good...

Stunningly beautiful art! I think the new Jackal Pup is hands down the single most vicious looking creature in the history of MtG and it's wonderful to see such a classic (and still awesome) red card reprinted. Definitely my favorite creature of all time!

Revolutionary card. STILL powerful today, even if it's not the best. If you don't know why this is good try to play against it. I'm surprised this was just an uncommon.

Art looks nice, but I still really don't see how this is useful at all. You play Jackal PupElite Vanguard. Go ahead and attack. Even any old measly 1/1 will still do the trick. Or I Lightning Bolt or Flame Slash the poor little Pup. I just took out your creature and still did the full damage of the spell to you.

Good because Red does not have efficient one drops like Elite Vanguard, I won't play this, but the pup's all grown up from the old art. Cute but sorry, not a fan.

I would have loved to see an updated reprint of the original art, but oh well. Really good card for a first turn, Red drop.

Ugh, this card's art makes it look like the pup is missing legs, mainly cuz the front-left leg is so far back. Also because the front right leg, the most visible one, has its knee bending in the WRONG DIRECTION.

Seems like a two-legged creature, like a hairy velociraptor, or something at first glance. And second and third.

@land_comment Nice doesn't even begin to describe how it looks in the premium deck foil. It's somewhere closer to AMAZING.

But do you like this card?

How do you guys not understand how a 2 power creature for R is good? Drop him turn one, you drop an elite vanguard? good for you! Turn 2 I cast lightning bolt on your vanguard and swing for 2.

The art's OK, even if the head's position in relation to it's body is a little awkward. But what I don't get is why anyone likes a creature that doesn't even serve as a barricade to damage. If you take damage each time he does, why even have him there? Might just as well let the damage go through.

Reprint (in Standrad) please. and make it a core set staple. We've survived Goblin Guide and Searing Blaze; we're ready for this.

Strictly less adorable than the original art. (Not to say that this art is worse, it's just different)

This hard is terrible. Why is everyone so randy for it? There are countless other 1 drops for red that are much better, that DON'T involve hurting yourself so much.

The old art was cute, but this art is much more evocative of how vicious this little fella is =D

Just watch out for those Shivan Meteors...a very good aggro card though.

New art makes more sense to the flavor and its existence as a magic card, the viciousness is fitting, and it's drawn with higher realism quality. At the same time, the old art is D'awwww

so if i put pariah and Indestructibility both on the jackal pup, then the next time the pup takes damage it starts a non-breakable infinite damage loop, thereby drawing the game right? The pup takes damage, which then deals damage to me that is redirected back to the pup, which causes the pup to deal 2 more damage to me, which is also redirected back to itself, and so on. If the pup is indestructible, the only way to break the loop would be to have an exile spell for the pup, or something to destroy either pariah or indestructibility.

It's revolutionary, yes. And even today, it's still pretty powerful. But that downside has a potential to really, really bite you. Blasphemous Act.

Start early by beating on them with it. Then cast Shivan Meteor or Blasphemous act on it mid-game after using Bazaar Trader.

Flows up the mana-curve nicely and they can only resist it by pointing removal at it. If they point damage removal at it they still get nailed by the trader passing it to them!

I think part of it is nostalgia. Back in the day, this was basically the equivalent of what Goblin Guide is today: The go-to choice for a 1-drop creature for a Red burn deck that outshines the rest of the competition, which back then was stuff like Mogg Con***s or Goblin Patrol. Nowadays there are certainly better choices such as Goblin Guide or (for a Standard example) Rakdos Cackler.

I actually thought up a combo using this, have 4 fire servants, 1 jackal pup and 4 furnace of raths on the battlefield then suspend a shivan meteor, before the Shivan Meteor resolves cast donate giving the opponent your jackal pup, when the Shivan Meteor resolves target the jackal pup dealing 53,248 damage and killing your opponent

This legitimately looks exactly like my dog.

Now I'm scared. What if someone shocks him and I die? I can't take two and survive!

I prefer Goblin Cohort for cheap red aggro, but this guy definitely has a place in any deck that needs quick access to damage
